Yerp wireless Board alright, But I'm curious "it being Chinese n all" as to why there are so many custom blobbed
chips just for game controllers, especially seeing they were manufactured in 2017 where a cheap single blobbed
board would have been so much cheaper back in 2017..
I read somewhere that this console has graphical errors in some games, like Contra III in the level that has the view from above and Chrono Trigger when you use the ship to go face lavos the graphics are corrupted. I think it's a problem with the Mode 7. Could you check please?
@@decardcain701 The issues are there, also including super ghouls n ghosts, in stage 3 boss fight and stage 4, the background is pitch black. Basically games that have rotation levels/background are prone to glitch. It would be good if the reviewer can spend some more time with it and make a more 'in-depth' review and do some research rather than playing with it for 5 minutes and saying 'oh it works great'.
I thought that immediately, could you check out what's in the multigame cardrige, it could be that it's some everdrive like cardrige with a microSD card, and does the original SNES cover fit on the console?
the small board on the right is the wireless controller interface. see the antenna "squiggle" in the upper right of it? I assume it's 2.4GHz and the silver barrel sticking off the lower left of that board would be the crystal frequency component. EDIT: also it appears to have 14 connections to the main board - 7 controller pins per player...
That extra board is a wireless receiver for the controllers. The antenna is the squiggly trace on the far right of that smaller add on. The audio for the Super Gameboy comes from the Super Gameboy itself and is passed through the SNES. A real SNES likely has a buffer that reduces the output a bit and this console likely does not causing the increase in volume when using the Super Gameboy. Also thanks for sharing the decal link yesterday. I need to get one for my AVS.
I was thinking maybe the clone is missing a resistor & cap that's meant to cut the volume on carts that pass audio?
@@alextirrellRI that is very likely what is happening and why is so loud. The extra gain will also make it sound tinny/distorted.
EDIT: he did acknoledge it in the end
I said the same about the module on both comments and twitter, it looks like he has no intention to acknowledge this. Btw I'm 100% sure this manufacturer also made some other clones, in particular a megadrive one, with the same wireless module. It seems the md one also has some sound issues, in particular regarding filtering, it could be cool to find some fixes for these almost good clones.
I absolutely love all these clones, even if they're bad and i'll never get them. It's just cool to see retro systems still getting support.
I agree good to see retro systems still getting love.
This is the same design board with chipset that's been available in clone for nearly 15 years(that I'm aware of) the CPU is the TCT-978, the two S-PPU chips are combined into the TCT-976 and the TCT-975 is the single-chip SPC700 clone
I sold my SNES years ago to get some money for my son to have a good birthday. I regret nothing. Since then it was using SNES9x for emulation, then BSNES since then due to compatibility. Now? I play almost exclusively via my SNES Classic which is soft modded allowing me to use it for more than just SNES titles. This clone looks pretty impressive though, especially with the capability with Super Game Boy
The extra board is a wireless controller receiver, the nes on chip is the cartridge it self.
If it was just on the cartridge, wouldn't it run on other systems that can run SNES games? It seems like there has to be something in the console that interfaces with that cartridge, something that isn't present on any other clone/original system. Maybe one of those chips on the board.
I tout that extra board was ment for nes games.
I'm def getting this , it's really good for the cost.
I'm not playing SNES that much these days but when I do I use my hacked SNES Classic.
What you are experiencing with the Super Gameboy is the result of the console lacking pull-down resistors on the audio passthrough pins. This will also affect the MSU-1 audio and anything else that uses those pins to passthrough audio.
It's an easy fix, and doesn't cost much to do.
I'm a Pi gamer for the most part, but I plan on going FPGA once the MiSTer matures
That 1 inch board is probably a 2.4 Ghz or bluetooth reciever. That snaked copper is the hint of an antenna.
Even the inside looks good. This is definitely one I wouldn't mind snagging.
2 things, firstly that board on the side is almost definitely for the wireless controllers, the little squiggly line is the antennea. Secondly I play my SNES stuff on SNES classic as my oem one is being lent to a friend for super gameboy purposes
Big Love from Germany. We appreciate your content!
I don't actually have a way of playing SNES cartridges lol. I'm more of a Genesis guy but I also love the SNES and they're both two of my favorite systems. My only way of playing SNES games is on my SNES Classic (modded) or emulators on my Mac/Raspberry Pi. For Genesis, I have emulation, a Genesis Mini (also modded), and an original Model 2.
Not bluetooth but still 2.4ghz with a very low overhead, which is 100 times better than Bluetooth
I play on my childhood SNES with an Everdrive as well as on MiSTer, but I always find these clones really interesting and think it's cool when one works well.
This was a fun pair of videos! Thanks for sharing. For info as requested, personally I'm still a massive Pi fan. All my retro gaming is done on the 400 and I love it.
I use an original region-free Super Famicom that plays everything. With SCART RGB!
I run original SNES and Everdrive for 90+% of my SNES gaming today. Tried other options but this is the only one that satisfies me. Once I got the Everdrive I find I dont bother with actually even swapping in my real physical carts anymore.
Still rocking the OG SNES. No mods, though maybe some HDMI out one day would be nice. I suspect I'll keep playing on it as the scalping for the Super NT is not something I want to contribute to.
The cartridge most likely has an NES SOC inside and just uses the console as controller input and to route the video out. I've seen other clone consoles use this technique for "addons" that play other systems like MD, GB and Famicom
I thought so too Mauricio. But the transfer of play (on screen view) looks better than other clones. Two of which I bought with so-so results.
Is there much input lag? The image looks so crisp
Playing an original SNES on a small 14" CRT! I've been checking out your videos for some time. You said in a previous video that the SNES is your favourite console, it's mine as well. I think it's time I finally subscribe!
Thanks~
Thanks for the follow up Ron. Question, I have an original super nintendo, is this worth getting just for HDMI? Thanks for the video
I don't play NES or SNES clones or original hardware. But, I've got the NES and SNES Mini Consoles that have been hacked by adding extra games. And, I do play Sega Master System, Genesis, 32X and CD games all on original hardware. I also have the Hyperkin Mega Retron HD clone console for my Sega Genesis games. I also have the Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection compilation game for my PS3.
Great looking clone, can't wait to try this out.
I wonder if the shell is interchangeable with the original super famicom. I'd love to swap that top panel/ game slot so I don't have to use a chopped up game genie when playing US snes games in my sfc
THANK YOU for the updated ending music. mush better friend!
I'm using the original Snes console with a EON Super 64 and a Mclassic
My current setup is a Super Famicom with a Super UFO Pro 8 flashcart. It’s a great setup for me: playing ROMs, backing up my cartridge saves, and using the passthrough to play the US ROMs of certain special chip games with the much cheaper Super Famicom versions (X2/X3, for example).
Great show
My jaw dropped when you said their nec and samsung chips famicloners are flexing hard these days.
This is the kinda clone that gets its own knockoffs in a couple months stores are gonna be flooded with fake versions of a bootleg lol.
Still impressive engineering if legit.
Great to see a decent SNES clobe console. I think this system is for soneone that is not particular. I play GB and Super Game Boy on Analogue Super Nt with official Super Game Boy add on or on Analogue Pocket. Great video dude.
Also, there you go a SMU game for the SNES (S. Mario ALL STARS) and works (also the super mario kart I tried works on my own system).
Mister the only way to play SNES and Retro Games
Thanks for the teardown. Appears this uses the same (or similar) cloned SNES chips that many other clone SNES's do. Neat that the Super Game Boy's audio works on this considering many clones can't pass through Game Boy audio for some reason, including oddly enough, the SupaRetroN HD which also uses cloned SNES chips (the same ones I think). Or maybe mine is just defective...
As for the NES, there is that small chip in the bottom-left corner near the capacitors. I wonder if that's either a) an NoaC or b) some sort of SoC that is being used to emulate the NES. Also possible the cart itself is the "NES" and it just passes through the audio and video through the cart slot.
And to answer your question: An original SNES Jr. and a Super NT. I also have a SupaRetroN HD, but only use that to test carts before using them in one of the other 2. I also have a SNES Mini, and play on that from time to time as well.
Where do I buy that monitor?
Also that mobo looks decently clean
Great video! I'm using a Retrobit Super RetroTRIO+ w/ original SNES controllers and Aliexpress "Everdrive".
I thought this was a SNES on a chip much like those NES on a Chip and Genesis on a Chip devices that are pretty common. but I was surprised that it had an actual chipset like the original instead of a system on a chip. Also, does this work with that floppy drive thing from the 90's or do you not have that anymore?
I use SNES Jr. connected to tube TV via regular A/V cables 😆
Oh man....I miss the outro music already! Lol thanks for the video
thx, I was actually looking for a teardown yesterday :). BTW there is an adapter to use NES cartridges on the SNES, look for it on RETROAD's site on alix. Maybe that 538 or someting in 1 cartridge is a NES with that converter built-in....
The screen that you use is so simple and small, do you have the link for it ?
Most surprising is it seems to have a full chip set, not just an emulator running on a SOC! Cool.
I use a Super Famicom/Nintendo modded console with a Super CIC chip installed where you hold down the reset switch for like a second or two, that changes the region and also the frequency of the device. Plus I use the good ol’ SNES classic for modern retro gaming experience and a Supa RetroN HD Nintendo clone for a modern take on the retro style. This console looks the goods though, might have to get me one. Thanks Madlittlepixel for another great video :-)
Looks like a very interesting machine. I may try and pick one up, although I currently play with emulation through my PC. I use Snes9x along with Bsnes which boasts 100% compatibility with commercial roms. Thanks for the peek inside. Good info.
Primarily use my phone for emulation, now with an 8bitdo Pro 2 controller, but I do have RetroArch and launchbox on my computer, although it's rarely used. Also just got an Odroid Go Advance Black Edition for my birthday, gotta wait for about 10 days until I can actually put it together.
What monitor are you using in this video to test everything? Love glossy LCDs!
That unusual side board is the wireless interface for the wireless pads to connect I think. And that Samsung chip is probably ram or if it has games built in it could be flash memory.
Have you found an adapter that lets you play any of the other consoles the storepage for this product says you need to play them?
I'm mostly using my SNES Mini with hakchi to play my snes games especially using the controllers for that system feels timeless.
How I play SNES: Super NT on flat panels, Original SNES on CRTs, MiSTer in a PS Classic GStory case on the road/portably.
Currently rocking a SNES JR with Voultar's RGB board running threw a retrotink 5x using Insurrection Scart cables. It looks amazing however this little clone is kind of peaking my interest.
This clone console has been out for years. It uses the same chipset as the other clone consoles such as retro-bit, hyperkin, pound, etc. And this chipset has some issues on some games. For example, in contra 3, level 2 and 5 (the overhead levels) have wrong color pallette. In super ghouls n ghosts, in stage 3 boss fight and stage 4, the background is pitch black and it makes the game unplayable. There are other games that run into issues but these two are some of my favorite snes games and I still play them today. I had a few clone consoles (including the one in this video), and they all have the exact same issues.
I wonder if you run those games on an everdrive will still have issues or not... Interesting device and great for that price/performance overall though
@@alvarodepradosanz still have the same issues (I've tested)
Maybe try a clone cartridge of the game you had issues with, it worked for me with Secret of Mana, some people had trouble with a Spanish version (English language) and I have a Secret of Mana translated ROM (Spanish language) into a cartridge that works fine.
@@alvarodepradosanz I never intended to try to get it working, I have the original SNES console, Analogue Super NT and a bunch of other clone consoles. I was just stating the compatibility issues that the clone consoles all have so that people who are interested in getting one can be aware (as MadLittlePixel did not point it out).
Hey GG whats are good cheaper alternatives to the Analog Super NT you would recommend?
I've got the super nt but just recently bought a very good condition no yellowing snes. Play it on my 65 inch oled with a retrotink 2 pro. Looks great! Thinking I may sell my super nt now.
I use my 1 Chip Mini that has been recapped and s-video and RGB modded with HD Retrovision Component on the RetroTINK 5x. I was using my Super Nt before getting my 5x.
I use OG SNES and from time to time RetroFreak (mostly for making roms)
The way I play snes is either using the snes classic or my supaboy gold handheld from hyperkin, I have an original snes but don’t use it much.
Thanks for the video! Could you use Artemio's 240p test suite rom on an everdrive, to see how it handles interlacing trough HDMI and input lag?
That daughter board you surmised was an NES board has a wireless antenna on the PCB, so I suspect that it's actually an interface board for the wireless controllers. I'm betting the NoaC is actually in the cartridge, perhaps being based on the old Retro Port device.
Been playing my SNES games on a Super Famicom using an OSSC and a SD2SNES pro.
looking at the inside it confirms to me that the manufacturer is the same as other clones out there with 2.4ghz controllers. That little board on the right is the controller receiver not a nes on a chip and you can see the antenna on the PCB itself. In particular they also made a "somewhat" decent megadrive 1 & 2 clone which have the same module and do have some sound issue but i did heard there's some fix to it. It would be interesting to acquire those too and collect all info into a page with fixes to improve them and possible revisions.
What happened to your outro music man? That was always my favorite part! Lol
I play SNES games (and other retro games) on my MiSTer. Because of the low latency it doesn't trip up my muscle memory like software emulation does. It just feels exactly as it should.
The eject mechanism and spring on the original SNES consoles is also a pain. I've taken a few apart and messing with that, especially putting it back in is the biggest pain of doing it.
TCT-978 is clone chip of original SNES 5A22-02 CPU, TCT-976 is 2 in 1 clone chip of PPU1 5C77-01 and PPU2 5C78-03 and TCT-975 is clone of SPU SPC700 from Sony(not as good as original :P) This chips are main units of the most SNES clones on the PCB. ;)
That case, from what I can green from your video, is identical to a super famicom. The cartridge lock mechanism and the eject mechanism. Hell even the light pipe is the same.
Great video pixel how can I get that tv where at please
I currently go between original hardware and supa retron HD. I am definitely interested in this console, and for the piece, it seems you can’t go wrong
Also the aspect ratio choice and the PAL/NTSC switches make this a great clone with the HDMI, but I am curious how well other adapters you can buy for it at Ali Express will run... Mega drive, NES and GBC (and maybe GBA?) adapters and such... Also the Action Replay device. The fact it runs Super Mario Kart (Japanese version I have) and Starfox Flawlessly is remarkable... Great video!! Thanks MLP!
Also curious to test with Super Mario Paint and the Mouse
Nice video, very interesting item, maybe you could try to dump the cartridge with the super nt to see if you can make the rom work with an emulator or even send it to an emulation specialist
I have the orignal SNES boxed in my attic. I play on my SNES mini which i had flashed to add games to it.
I'm using a real Snes and a Super Famicom with a Fxpack Pro. I like to take my Famicom with me when I travel. Nothing like the OG.
OG Snes on the CRT, and Analogue NT on the LCD. I also will use a Raspberry Pi to play roms if feel like it.
Ron I gotta sfc one chip I got from a japan seller about a year ago for about 70 bucks. It was in bad shape on the outside but the guts were all good and official one chip model. I also got retrovision component cables for it and play on my crt tv
I play my Super Famicom connected via S-Video to my CRT. Official Japanese carts only. If I play anything US related, I'll usually just connected my modded SNES Classic.
if you wanna play your carts with HDMI i mean this is pretty legit. and you can sync 8BitDo controllers too? 🔥🔥
Goodness that gboy music is so nostalgic
I just got mine. It’s a pretty good clone. Yes, the colors aren’t accurate, and is dark. The composite image is actually really good, even better than the original SNES. I use my retrotink 5x pro with composite on this and it looks really good. Love that it plays all everdrives and the SD2SNES.
Shockingly good SNES clone
I personally use my Super NT to play SNES games, mainly because I like recording the gameplay in HD, I used to use the super retron hd, recording in hd while playing on a crt, but now have it set up in my living room to my crt for when friends are over and it works well enough, regarding the volume from the gb player even on the super NT the volume is really loud at least the one game i tested on it operation C was lol
I have a Super Famicom and a Supa Retron. I play on them both. The Super Famicom is my preferred way to play though.
Standalone NES clone is found on the cart. You can buy other adapters to use Famicom, Game Boy, and Genesis carts.
Is there a Nes clone good like this on alixpress? I mean with the 16:9 - 4-3 switch and the ntsc/pal switch?
Playing on my super nintendo store kiosk!! Still has the original snes in there as well as the stand!! The console and the control pads could do with retro bright but other than that its fully functional even after all these years
What UP @Madlittlepixel Yea, I'm playing my SNES games on the Analogue Super Nt, and I also have a regular Super Nes, and a modded SNES classic... I also, play using emulation station on my PC... Life is great brother😎 I may have to purchase one of these darn things...🤔
The internals of this clone look like your standard fare on HDMI Super NES clones minus the wireless board. I'd be weary of the RAM as I've often seen Super NES clones running 3.3V RAM way out of spec on these (overvolted to 5V or otherwise running at 3.3V, but directly connected to the 5V I/O of the chipset with no level-shifting). This can potentially cause some long-term reliability problems.
By the way, have you managed to get the pack-in multicart opened up (looks like it's held shut by clips, which will making opening it tedious)? Considering the lack of NES hardware in the console itself and the fact it won't work on your other clones, I'm guessing the cartridge itself has an NOAC inside with a ROM containing all the games connected to it while the video output is sent through the extra pins on the sides of the edge connector into the scaler and the audio output goes through the typical analog audio pins used by the Super GameBoy.
Love your videos brother! To answer your question about how I play Super NES stuff I'm fortunate to own an original system connected to a CRT TV. I do own a Raspberry Pi connected to a TV in my bedroom. It doesn't get used a whole lot but when I do use it it's actually mainly used to play console stuff I don't own like Sega CD and TurboGrafx. I also have an RG350 that I use on the go or whenever.
I have both the og and the mini snes. Got the snes jr modded w rgb and running sd2snes on a bvm D24 inch
Have you tried that cartridge with a regular Snes?
So the latency is really good when playing the included NES cartridge?
What tv/screen do you use during the demo?
Thank you. You are the best
1:42 since I started collecting ive been using a clone console called the super retro trio. Not the super retrio trio+ with the HDMI out, the one before that. Since ive started collecting my snes library is the biggest, I guess I find it the most appealing. But also most genesis games im interested in are super expensive. Super Rtype is one of my favorites on the snes though.
I'm using an SNES jr with rgb mod and an everdrive x6 and lotsa original cartridges and retrotink mini.
I wonder if you can put the board in an authentic SFC shell
im currrently using an original UK PAL SNES console, but i DEFINITELY want one of these for not JUST the HDMI, but also the regional freedom :D
Two questions. #1, we see this work fine with SNES games. What about Genesis or actually NES/Famicom carts using those adapters from, I believe, Hyperkin? And #2, how does this compare to the other HDMI options out there (Retron5, Analogue, etc), and where does it rank compared to those systems?
The cart bus on the original console for feeding video pretty much limits at what the Super GameBoy does, so that cart with NES games won't work there. These new clones seems to somehow improve that and be able to give a lot more of bandwith, basically they are just on a chip consoles in a cart that feeds the console the video and audio and takes inputs from the console. There's a Sega MegaDrive/Genesis and GameBoy Color "carts" for these too.
