    Just remember, if you use an after market filter it likely won't say "UP" on it. It will say "air flow" instead in which case the arrow should point down.

    • @user-ho1ih1uj6w
      @user-ho1ih1uj6w Před 3 lety +2

      So for the "air flow" should i put it where the arrow points up ⬆️ or put it in the opposite way

      Air flow is down. Dirty air comes in from the top and gets filtered before entering the blower which is mounted directly below the filter. That's why dirt collect on top of the filter. It's not rocket science.

    @boldcitycc Před 5 lety +14

    Your filter probably actually wasn’t all that dirty. I got pissed when i got my car back from service today, 2018 camry xse. as I opened up the glove box, and removed the filter to make sure they changed it. It looked dark like yours did. Then i noticed both sides looked that way. Generally only one side will be dirty. Then i looked on my service ticket. “part number 87139-YZZ 37. It is an activated charcoal filter. The 28020 is what was used on previous years I believe, and is white as you showed. However, if you Google the 87139-YZZ37, there are pictures of it in sealed factory bags, and other mfgs as well, where it looks like yours did brand new. It’s just the activated charcoal making it uniformly dark. If yours hadn’t been changed in 24,000 miles, i’m sure it was due, but just wanted to make you aware that the reason yours looked so white was because that’s actually not the correct filter, but it fits, and will work fine i’d imagine

    • @skaizun
      @skaizun Před 4 lety +1

      You're correct that it was a charcoal filter, which, of course, is darker than the white one, but, if you looked a little more closely, you'll have noticed brown streaks throughout the old cabin filter, indicating where dirt had made its mark. Generally speaking, if you hold up an air or cabin filter to the light, and you can see the light shine through it (not the light, itself, of course!), then it's "okay". If you see pin holes, tears, scorch marks, or it's over 5,000 miles old (cabin filter) or 10,000 miles old (air filter), then it's a good idea to replace it. Generally speaking (again!) that means about once a year; if you drive the car hard or you go through dusty/dirty areas, then, you may need to change them more often.

    I do most all of my own maintenance as well, but Toyota gives 2 years of free maintenance (which doesn’t amount to much), but it does include oil changes, tire rotations, and cabin filters once a year, so i’m sitting in the dealer while they do my last yearly service. I guess you didn’t want to sit and wait? I’ve done my own oil changes at 5,000 miles, and let them do the 10
