David getting all algebraic on us with the disc up vs disc down talk lmao
Nice video! I really like these videos when you get super specific about small details. Your video about the teebirds rim profile is another example.
I'm gonna give it a try as I do with most of reviews. I have a huge palms but little Jimmie Dean sausage link fingers. Picky about my putters. thanks David. Glad I got to meet up with you last week in Liberty. Thanks for coming.
I just got my first (prodigy)pa-3 NHL disc and then things you noticed about its flight are the same things i noticed. I can really relate to your reviews in general. Thank You.
I threw my 300 pa-3 till the bead basically wore off. Great putter all around.
Reminds me of the praxis. Drops when it runs out of speed and goes dead straight even with a ton of power.
I really appreciate how you go into the whys in your explanation, thank you for that
Great video. I bag all Prodigy and I really like putting and throwing my PA-3's in the 350G plastic. When I need something flippy, the PA-5 is excellent.
You've hit upon something that I've found out myself over the years. I like deeper, sort of floaty putters for putting (think P2, Magnet, Wizard, Aviar P&A), but they are too glidey for throwing putters usually (maybe minus the C-line P2s which are weirdly beefy), so I end up bagging different throwing putters (usually an Infinite Tomb, but I've also tried a Ringer). If I want to be a mold minimalist, and I like floaty putting putters, but less glidey throwing putters, the PA3 might be the only thing that starts to hit a compromise between the two since it's not glidey for throwing but isn't brick-like in the circle. A big innovation -- if it's possible at all -- would be to develop a deep putter that doesn't have throwing glide but has glide in circle 2.
Would love to see a comparison with this the PA3, Bullet, Pure and Watt.
I am throwing a PA-3 in 500 Plastic since a week, loving it. The base one (300) were really cool on turnovers. Reaching really far with it compared to the Pure for example. ^_°
Love my pa3. Great video
Reko for last two seasons but working in the PA3. I love the hand feel. My fan grip pointer finger went straight to the bottom part supported by the bead. Have a 200 and need to try more plastics...
I used to love the PA-3 for putting but the constant problem I had with it was that if I missed a spin putt (even if I hit chains and had a spit out), it would hit the ground and have a MASSIVE roll/circle which would put me like 15-20ft from the basket. It happened so many times with numerous PA3’s that I shelved the disc. Maybe it would be a better throwing putter for me. Switched to Gateway and had MUCH better results.
I haven't had much experience with that myself!
Fun watch because I made the exact same transition a year ago, same reasons too. Couple additonal findings if you're interested:
- the Heather Young 300's came out shallower for some reason, way more similar depth to a Luna imo if the grip feels funky
- for long C2 putts where lack of glide can get tough, the Keystone is a great complement, shaped just like a PA3 with no bead
For an even more shallow version, look to the DGA Breaker
I use the 500 plastic for my approach. It's literally my favorite disk! Get it!!
Just bought one through the link! Great video.
Thank you! 🙌
I love the PA3 for all the reasons that you said. It’s a great upshot disc, a great driving putter, and a great putting putter. I would also add to your review that once you get a 300/300Soft pa3 beat in, they fly dead straight with some turn, even. But, they don’t turn and burn, similar to how the M4 does not turn and burn
I also have an odd experience where I began my career throwing prodigy, so I think any putter that is not flat, feels awful
Yeah I like how they have a little bit of a puddle top on the Pa-3 so that they don't come out domey and are always flat!
Great video man, I bag all prodigy and the PA-3 is amazing also give the PX-3 a try also
I liked this one alot, I had to get another!!!
Sounds very similar to the discmania link; absolutely love it for throwing, but I find the lack of glide very noticeable for putting. Might have to try it again now that my form is solidified.
The pa-3 Changed my whole game. My putts is cleaner and i feel comfortable throwing this putter without being afraid of turning it over. I use my pa-3 for all shots up to 75-80m. I used Dagger before so the feeling in hand was kinda similar. But the pa-3 is more stable and torque resistant
Great post, #BergLife, the flight and characteristics you describe are like the K3 Reko, maybe compare them?
I have heard good things about the Reko! I definitely need to check that out.
I tried the PA-3 for putting but switched back to an OG soft Aviar, I prefer a slimmer profile in a putter. The PA-3 is a good throwing putter but in my experience they have a bit of glide. They fly farther than Pure's for me.
I like a blunt nose putter for better control. I personally use the dynamic discs' Guard; the shape looks very similar to the pa-3, but it has no bead.
The Aviar Yeti Pro fills this spot for me. I can throw it hard it will drift but as it slows down it always fades out. I can really put it on any line up to the Zone type stability. I've tried using the glitch, the watt, warden, and envy for this, but the Yeti always produces the best results both putting and throwing.
Want to see a feedback video!
I got the Feedback! And it feels great! I definitely want to see how they fly and make a video!
I threw Pa-3 for 8 years.
Just switched to the Link.
Basically a 2 speed Pa-3.
Never used one. I have a premium plastic Birdie Marvel that is kind of the jack of all trades for me. Stable enough now to flip, yet glides as far as you want it to. Hard to explain unless you throw one
i have about 5 or 8 pa3's. i love my gannon glow and chirs dickerson ones. ive been putting better with my 300s pa1 lately! i love my 200 a2. shoot i love prodigy! i have a whole prodigy bag set up if i want.
What weight do people recommend, mostly for 50ft or less putting mostly
Curious why u didn't go for the pa2 since it's beadless like the luna? I think i want to try a pa2 since Idk how I feel about a bead coming from someone who uses deputys
I tried making the switch but I don’t like the hand feel. Honestly I use Aviar3’s for putting, approaching, and driving.
I bag and throw luna and zone, when I don’t want to go past the basket I use one of my zones, and when I need more distance I can use one of my lunas, with the pa-3 I don’t have that distance potential with the lunas, and I could just throw a zone for shorter, technical, more touchy shots
Yeah, but the Zone has too much of a hook up fade at the end! Not very workable on shorter approaches!
Love Pa-3
It's solid!
Man, if you love to throw those touchy forehand upshots, PLEASE try the Origo by Prodiscus. I couldn't, for the life of me, sidearm any putter as they just eere too deep for me to get a clean release from, but this disc just releases so clean. And I'm not the only one.
Gateway also makes a couple low-profile putters that feel great for sidearm. The Chief and Chief OS
Could not agree more
Girl you gotta get some Mint Bullets
I use Westside warship in this slot
Underrated disc.
The Warship is a very good disc!
Watt just killed this spot for me. Kicked out the Proxy and Glitch as well. It is more shallow and very forgiving for backhand and forehand.
Yea the Watt kicked the Proxy and possibly the Envy out of my bag.
Altho I’ve been messing around the the Bullet as well and can’t tell which one I like more.
I haven't had a chance to try the Watt out yet! looks fun!
Aww, I missed the promo, lol
Hate the bead personally… but can see why it’s one of the most popular putters
Yeah I forgot to even mention the bead 😂
I’m curious how this compares to the streamline pilot. It’s a very slow putter but claims to have high glide. Stability seems identical to PA3.
I haven't tried the pilot... But I have heard that the Jester Love putter is the same mold (haven't confirmed that myself though...) and if it is then it definitely has a lot more glide than the Pa3 and has a straighter finish.. but it handled a lot more torque than I thought it would!
@@ApolloDiscGolf I’ve never heard of the jester love putter. Looked it up on infinite and the side profile seems different. Not sure which disc it is a copy of.
Been thinking of getting into Prodigy. What recommendations would you give for the other slots?
I honestly don't have a ton of experience with Prodigy... Their Pa-3 and P-Model S are both really popular putters. I have really enjoyed their Distortion as a straighter Zone type disc with a touch of glide. And their M4 is a really nice mid! It's just a little deeper. I haven't thrown a ton of their fairways though... I have heard great things about their FX4, but again, I haven't thrown it!
@@ApolloDiscGolf Appreciate the feedback! I'll take a gander on your store when I have some spare cash.
The "P Model S" is pretty much the same but a lot cheaper (which makes it easy to buy multiples for putting practice)
thinner profile. def cheaper. love’em
Yeah I have heard great things about the P Model S as well!
I've never thrown Prodigy, but I'm nibbling at the Pa3 hook. I know nothing about prodigy plastic. Any recommendations?
They just renamed their base plastics. So now they have just 300 plastic which is their higher end base plastic in soft, normal, and firm. I really like their firm plastic! Their 400 plastic is like their champ plastic, and they have 400g which is like star, but I don't know if they are still using that plastic, because now they have 500 plastic which is like a luster star type plastic. Then 750 plastic is like a stiff champ style plastic, that is really nice!
Then they have 200 plastic which is their retro style plastic as well.
I am wondering how these compare with an Innova Invader
I haven't tried the Invader before! But aren't those a lot shallower and more of a throwing putter like the Colt? Or am I thinking of something different?
@ApolloDiscGolf Yeah, they are more for throwing. I think they're all 3 speeds, but I think the Invader has only been released in premium plastic. I would give the Invader the same review you gave the PA3, low glide, but can get its distance from speed, low fade but very torque resistant.
I don't carry any Innova, but that was my experience with a luster Invader
My biased opinion is that the Proxy is top 3 best throwing and putting putters. It is phenomenology for both
Is there any advantage to throwing and putting with the same mold? Obviously, you can carry less discs, but let's forget about that for the moment. The argument for mold minimalism is always about knowing your discs well and getting more shot shapes out of fewer hand-feels. But in the case of putting vs throwing, the hand feel argument is irrelevant. You're holding them completely differently. The characteristics that make a good putting putter vs a throwing putter barely overlap. I'm not saying they don't overlap at all. Based on this video, the PA-3 seems like an ideal disc for double duty. The Wizard is a good do-it-all, too. But, still, there are compromises being made. Once I started putting with Daggers (and didn't like throwing them) I switched to having a different thrower and haven't looked back. Currently it's Dagger/Berg, and I really wouldn't want to sacrifice either. The idea of compromising the Berg in order to have something that's also good to putt with seems insane to me (what other putter can I consistently flick 100% cleanly at full power?). Likewise, the fat/tall/beaded hand feel of the Dagger is amazing for pitch putting, and the idea of compromising that for something a little lower profile that's easier to throw cleanly seems insane.
Glow Reko is the best off the tee and putting for me. Has less glide and straight. Just expensive
I use the meteor if I want extra glide
Those gold cloud breakers is one of the best disc I've ever seen. The flatter ones fly really good too.
In c1 I use a banger gt or nomad. But c2 I love my Reko. I aim at the top left band spin it on slight Annie
With any other putter I miss right alot. Unless I putt on hyzer
If he’s an old man, my grandpa is a fossil
I can't play down under with the humidity we've been having, I'll stay in the open until it cools down.
Yeah, it was 92 out so I thought I would go down there to get out of the sun... I was drenched in sweat by hole 2...
If you throw a putter with no glide, no matter how hard you throw it, when you let go, it will drop immediately
Throwing/putting putters are odd as basically any putter is a perfect putter for someone to throw. The Pure is BRILLIANT, the Link is SOLID, the Aviar is pretty much criminally underrated for throwing and so on. I'm really waiting for some channel to review the Origo by Prodiscus.
I haven't heard of the Origio! But Prodiscus has some solid stuff!
It's Origo. BT Origio is a Westside plastic. I've thrown some Prodiscus and I'm baffled at how bad they really are at hyping their discs. If you try the Origo in a few plastics, the Razeri in Ultrium and Premium plastics and the Troija in Premium plastic (maybe others as well but you know, at least in that one) and combine it with the knowledge you have of the Jokeri you'll get my point.
Ultrium Razeri is basically a FLAT destroyer. Feels awesome with a forehand grip. In Premium plastic it's WAY more OS. Just an awesome mold.
Premium Troija. The Tilt of midranges. Literally beats the Mutant and the Justice 100-0 in terms of overstability.
Origo. How is this putter not talked more about?
PA-3 is great. It's like a mid off the tee.
I really enjoy throwing it!
Dang, that's really intriguing that you consider it having less glide, because I thought it was probably one of the glidier putters I tested (long range putting), and throwing-wise, I felt it was still glidier than like a Wizard, for example: czcams.com/video/AdJwUDwBLE0/video.html
Interesting... I'm coming from a Luna which has some of the most glide for a putter out there! So compared to that and other glidey putters, they don't have much glide... The Wizard doesn't have a ton of glide either imo! But throwing it I think it might have a touch more than a PA-3.. The PA-3 is just faster!
PA-3 vs Rhino?
I use the rhino for fess shots but pa for usual putts within 100 foot
could play an entire round with just Pa-3 in 300, 350 and 400 plastics and a PX-3 in 750 for more stability
You didn't explain why P3 is a perfect putter you just defined a P3 as being a perfect P3.
I will help you, good because straight without a big fade when putting, good for both putting and throwing, good because of not very glidy for throwing without being touchy, good because of blocky repeatable handfeel. Everything was in the vid
