I've started to switch my bag out to Prodigy simply because of the chalky feel of the 400 plastic. I sweat like crazy during the summer so it really helps with grip. I will have to try this one.
Yeah I'm surprised how grippy it is, even when in the rain or having sweaty hands! It's impressive!
So with the chalky discs, they lose that chalk feel in the wet conditions which is a bit upsetting, but 400 is still rly grippy. I'd recommend getting a rosin bag from a bowling pro shop, it works wonders on sweaty hands.
Isaac is really good at throwing anhyzer with his M1's, so I totally see why he would want the Archive (maybe he doesn't dig the feel of the M1). I've seen him throw it (the M1) quite much on holes that is open/mostly open)
Absolutely love your videos!! The side by side comparison of different discs are so cool to see the flight differences. Keep up the killer content!
Thank you! 🙌
Buzzz + Fuse + overstable sounds like a winning combo! I'm M4 for life but also need something more stable. Thanks for this vid!
(Also appreciate the comment on Prodigy's "flashing" - been throwing Prodigy for years, and have never experienced it. Not a thing imo.)
Great review and comparisons
The irony of the Isaac Robinson disc becoming the best forehand midrange is palpable.
Great videos - made my first purchase from your site - thank you!
Thank you! 🙌
Bought one of these to be my M4 compliment, glad to hear it seems fit for the job!
I also think your M2 theory is probably correct. It seems like the collab series have been a way for the the pros to fill some very popular slots (zone, thunderbird, destroyer, stable buzzz) that are missing in prodigy’s lineup with stock discs.
I am in MN and Cale got us on Prodigy long ago. Proto M1 is my best BH mid and this may be a similar new run (isaac does 750 not the 400ish proto M1). Can't wait to try the Archive.
It looks like the Iron Samurai 4 from Discmania! And I gotta say I'm glad Prodigy finally have made a mid that seems to feel nice in the hand!
yeah, it definitely has a little more hookup at the end than an Iron Samurai 4 imo! It's a nice mid!
I have m4 and also Archive in my bag, both are great discs. I also have mx1, very overstable disc. And those are my mids. Great discs.
Glad you mentioned the flashing. Pretty crazy how much Gannon damaged Prodigy's reputation with his criticism. People still don't like Prodigy because of that. They do seem to have made an effort to eliminate that completely now. But Gannon got his point across thats forsure.
Yeah people were complaining about the flashing before Gannon's statement about it... But when he said that, then it really got out of hand! But hats off to Prodigy, they have really made great progress towards getting right of the flashing!
Not really. Every Prodigy disc I have felt for a player's pack or anywhere else has had significant flashing. Any flashing is too many, there are companies like Clash discs that have butter smooth manufacturing with absolutely zero flashing. That should be the standard, but Prodigy hasn't been able to do that.
@@Thisnameisnottakenjkthis isn't an excuse for prodigy, but when clash is charging nearly $30 for their standard print sunny plastic, it better be perfect lol.
Yeah, I've noticed the same. I mainly only throw Prodigy and the newer discs seems to have no flashing problems at all.
Sir we're gonna need a video on the Axiom Pyro Prism Proton/Plasma
Got to try a Pine!
Have you tried the westside pine? Picked one up recently and would love to see a review. Pretty overstable with great glide
I have not tried the Pine!
I use my archive in the woods on slight flex lines!
I bought one of these last summer. I liked it right off the shelf. But the stability of my 500 Archive soon disappeared. It flys much more like my my stable buzzz. But it flutters more on forehand for me. It is a fine disc but i wish the out of the box stability was permanent. I have an axiom pyro now to compliment my buzzz mako3 and drone. The plastic is really nice though. And it had no flashing whatsoever.
The flight characteristics remind of the Lat64 Trust. That's my go to over stable mid
I haven't had a chance to throw a Trust yet! Don't know how...
@@ApolloDiscGolf They're awesome! Kicked my Roc3 out of the bag. It's shallow and pretty flat too so feels great off a forehand, and it's in the Royal Grand plastic. Definitely check it out
How would you say this lines up against a DGA Quake? Thinking about picking up an Archive as a huge fan of the Quake.
I haven't tried a Quake! I REALLY need to! My guess is they would be similar? But I haven't thrown one to be sure! Sorry!
Very similar to the Quake. It's pretty beefy.
Ive got a friend who is a pro and said this beats in to fly like a trustworthy buzzz, I picked one up today and am ready to try it out
I can definitely see that!
I'm almost 61. I don't know if I have enough life left in me to beat this monster in. WAY beefier than the numbers say. I can get my Tactic to fly straighter than this. I'd say it flies closer to a Quake. I'm gonna beat on mine during practice (for a year, probably) before it'll make the tournament bag. Might be a good OS midrange for someone that throws sidearm.
@@ronjones-6977 I do a lot of one disc rounds with new stuff at woodsy courses to beat stuff in, I cant stand waiting for them to beat in naturally. You can also throw it in a dryer wrapped in a blanket on high for about 8 to 10 minutes and that will do a lot of beating in for you
In regards to the M2/M3 thing, when Prodigy initially made those two discs the M3 was more stable than the M2. The early ones are called "M2/3"s and "M3/2"s, with M2/3 meaning stamped M2 but its an M3, and M3/2 meaning the opposite.
Heres the exact quote from 2013 about it:
"After testing the flight path of our original M2 design, we discovered that it is actually less stable than our current M3. In order to keep consistency with our numbering system, we have decided to switch the name of these two discs. Therefore, every M3 produced up to Friday June 7, 2013 will now be considered an M2. From this point forward, production runs of these discs will be stamped "M2". However, we currently have approximately 3000 "First Run" stamped discs in stock. In order to identify them as M2s, instead of M3s, we will be placing a sticker on the rim."
Oh! I forgot about that!
It looks like the Archive has a smaller (to non-existent) bead whereas the M2 has a significant one. Also the Archive seems to have a little more of a snub nose than the M2 in the video comparisons and the Prodigy website.
How would it compare in over stability with an emac truth?
It's definitely more overstable than an Emac Truth... I would put this in the same vein as an overstable Verdict, maybe with more glide?
How would you compare this to the new supreme fugitive?
The Fugitive is definitely more overstable than this! I would put the Fugitive more in the overstable mid range category than this is... The Archive definitely pushes forward more before it hooks up
Pro tip for anyone concerned about flashing. Take a razor blade to it and just like that it’s perfectly smooth
Can you throw a Kaxe and see how it compares?
I will have to pick one up! I haven't thrown a Kaxe!
Was there much, if any, difference in stability between plastics?
I hardly noticed any difference at all... They were both pretty darn close in stability!
Some people in the Prodigy groups are saying the 500 are a little bit more stable so I think you can assume that's true. My 500 Gannon MX-1 brand new was definitely more stable than my 400 stock run.
@@bosoxdanc1 thanks!
Profile reminds me of the og Proto M1?
I never threw or held a proto m1 before!
400G is there Star equivalent. 500 is more like Plasma.
Looks like an MD3 from the side
Yeah, I would say it's a touch deeper, and doesn't have the microbead!
Md4???
Yeah I would say it's similar!
I bought the prodigy mysterybox "summer edition" hopefully i get some cool discs
So...more like a BuzzzOS?
I wouldn't say it's as beefy as the Buzzz OS and it definitely has more glide and pushes forward more
Looks like a biox Verdict
Yeah, like an overstable Verdict with maybe a touch more glide and a tick slower? idk, I would have to compare them side by side, but the flights would be very close!
@@ApolloDiscGolf The BioX Chris Clemons ones are more overstable than a regular verdict. You should compare them. The rim profile looks really close. I picked up an Archive from you yesterday so I'm curious to compare them because I'd replace and bag the Archive and support Isaac instead lol
Looks like a Verdict to me flight wise. Overstable but not utility overstable, just consistently overstable
Yeah I would say this is very similar to a more stable Verdict! I know there are some straight Verdicts out there... this is more like the more stable ones! Maybe a touch more glide? But I would need to compare them side by side to say for sure! I haven't thrown the Verdict enough to know off the top of my head!
Almost seems like a Vanguard but a midrange.
Yeah, but this one doesn't turn! The Vanguard gave me a little bit of turn with a finish... This is closer to a slightly overstable Thunderbird imo!
How can you not mention the md3? Very similar 😮
hmmmm... Check out 3:35....
Phat Buzzz Bottom
😎
Only mid you need is eMAc Truth.
I love my lucid truth!
This would definitely be a step above the Emac Truth! In regards to stability
Truth
@@ApolloDiscGolf Thank you for tellin me I think this too stable for me.
The recent runs of Truth seem to be going back to its flippy runs 😑
foot fault
For me the M4 is closer to the amazing Claymore! Prodigy leaning the Archive towards the shape of the overrated Buzz is disappointing!
It's hard to be overrated when every other company wants to make the disc you made 🤷♂️
