- I found all the weirdest disc golf discs. Disc golf has a governing body, the PDGA. And in order to play in tournaments you must use PDGA approved discs. I found some of the strangest discs out there to be approved. Enjoy.

i bought a turbo putter last year and using that thing is incredibly infuriating
Could have mentioned that throwing the Epic overhand causes it to somersault midair and end up flying normally halfway through the flight
Thats what i used to use the tilt for when i first started the sport. It was a pretty decent tomahawk disc.
Used to have a local guy that would make them barrel-roll twice and bomb them like 450
@@mech0p why were you using a tilt to start playing disc golf lol
@@OWEN_SHEPHERD no idea why i said tilt i mean epic lol
A few more interesting ones are the Lattitude 64 Opto Hex technology on both the Rakuten and the Missilen.
Forgot the latitude missellen, discraft deuce, kasta berg, innova monarch, discraft rattler, loft hydrodgen, anything quest AT
I met the creator of the turbo putt, Steve Pearson, at his factory near Orlando. He gave me a box of second quality discs to try. I have a turbo putt from him, plus a Raging Inferno, with the dimple technology. My buddy swears that the T bone will get him out of anything. Sadly, we lost Steve to an aneurism. He also made one of my favorite discs, the Scream. It is kind of floppy so it will flip over and roll if you throw in wrong, but no other disc flies as far when I get it right.
Another crazy disc design by Quest was The Wheel, specifically designed for rollers.
it was never actually approved, the makers claimed it was, wouldnt remove the marking saying it was, and was actually sued for continuing to claim it was.... i have one LMAO
Absolutely loved the Turbo Putt. it was useful for getting up and over near objects because you could just pitch it and it would kinda sail out of the top of the arc like a disc schould.
The Innova Monarch also has a groove like the Groove disc. :)
Such an interesting video, great job!
The epic is pretty awesome, met a guy who'd tomahawk it and it would level out at 40+ feet and carry for about 450+ feet. It was crazy to watch.
Lol I’m one of those guys who can chuck thts thing. The best way to do it is to throw it very high and hard
What shape was it molded to? Like extremely overstable? Or... what?
Yup, crazy for that!!!
I used to have a couple Grooves back in the 2000's. I had a similar disc called a Monarch, that was a fairway driver I think, and it also had a groove in the outer rim.
Monarchs are so straight. Grooves bomb. I have multiple of both.
My dad loves his monarch, I've bought him 3 because he throws them in the watet
I think we are still in the 2000s timetravler.
That was really interesting. I find myself wanting a couple of these. How strange and yet how cool!
Nice list… awesome content! Keep it up!
Your content is amazing! Keep going!!!
The Innova Groove was my very 1st distance driver and I bought it like 13 years ago and I still have it and I love it lol
Love your content
Kastaplast Rask is so much fun to throw. I rarely use it seriously, but am really glad I have one. I mostly use it for super-sharp corners or for making bets with friends.
Love everyone sharing their Quest discs that didn’t get mentioned!
I found a T Bone in a used bin one time and instantly had to buy it. Thing has a super pop top, almost conical and its main feature is a dimpled underside of the rim like a golf ball
Claims to have 10 glide 😂
I'd give it a glide of 5. Love my TBones. I'd say it's a TeeBird with more glide.
A 6 in glide when I got to see that thrown in person.
I bought my groove disc in the early years when I started throwing. Back then, my hand wasn't strong enough to throw it, but now, after more than 10 years, I have to try it out to see if I could get it to fly. Thanks for video!👍🏼
Great video! So sad to see Ching Discs omitted from this video. The Mojo/Juju, Oracle, Precision, Genesis, and Velocity all being notable in their design. All the discs were designed by the designer of the Skill-Shot basket that Innova still makes and the dye sumblimation process that Innova used.
used to love the mojo
I just checked my Velocity and JuJu, apparently at the time their "Technology" was patent pending called "Acceleration Contours"
I loved my velocity. I still have a gummy Juju. Impossible to putt with it.
I saw a guy putting with the Sinus a few weekends ago and I thought he added those grip strips on himself! Cool to know it's the actual design of the disc.
Good video, The Wheel was also a weird one
I throw the Sinus inside of 200’ on backhand. It’s very over stable. I bag one for putting, one for throwing and have 4 more in the backup box. Never play without it.
I threw an epic back in the day
Throw it straight up on a thumber and it would flatten out and glide forever.
One disc you might like is the Prometheus by Salient. A high speed driver with a 23mm width 😮
Fun video 🎉
I carry 3 grooves in my bag. It’s my favorite disc. People always have something to say when they see me groove laying on the ground . What’s more strange about the groove is the consistency of the molds . Every groove does something slightly different . I am most confident with a forehand groove
Bought my Turbo Putt back when it was still PDGA approved, and still have it today! I'm almost glad it's useless on the field, because it's a nice goofy shelf piece to have around!
QuestAT had some cool ideas, and I'm glad they got to put them out there. Considering they (at the time) had the backing of Gateway, I'm surprised they couldn't get more of their niche discs to PDGA approval.
It's grandfathered in by law then lol.
I remember when the epic came out. the funny thing about it is the tuning explanation on the beck is actually opposite of the truth lol. When the turbo putt came out I remember they had their booth set up at the BG open with stacks of them with a sign that said "pdga approval applied for!" lol
I had both of thoose back in the day and actually bagged them for the get outta jail throws lol.
Ive been trying to find a turbo putt with the ramped ridge for a while now. You can find the newer ones with the more perdendicular ridge, but the ramped one looks amazing to throw
I got a rainbow groove for christmas and I lost it (guess where) in Florida. I don't think it would have ended up in water as I threw it at "The Quarry" north of tampa and the wind took it way out over the trees. I've also since changed my phone number so it's well and truly gone. Cool disc though and I did enjoy it.
I actually bag two Kastaplsat Rask. Once beaten in they fly pretty nice for shots where you need a fast disc to drop kinda fast at the end of flight or a fast disc that won't skip like a distance driver.
Banger/Banger-GT and the Monarch. Which is a super flippy groove
the m5 is one of my all-time favorite discs. can never find them in stores anymore though. it’s a beast and always reliable.
The Andro-C doesn't have the insertable ring. It's just a fast mid or slow fairway. I've thrown them a ton.
I love my Innova Monarch which is the "little brother" to the groove. It's an under stable disc with a low profile rim that I do pretty good as a less than amateur, especially for a forehand throw.
I lost my monarch but it's a great disc. The love I have for that disc can only me be matched by my hatred of the groove. For the life of me I can't get that thing to fly worth a damn
The monarch by Innova has a weird groove in the lip too, quest had one called the wheel made for rollers , I have the turbo putt it's fun for the back yard
Innova XB was a reverse groove essentially. The groove is on the top. I've got one somewhere.
I have a Turbo Putt... There's an event in Minnesota(it was a yearly event) and every year it was a different flying "disc"... It's called the Moir Mystery Madness, and the year they had the Turbo Putt I was in an I Walk boot/crutch with a broken foot... Fun disc to throw...
I have a Turbo Putt that has never been thrown and one that I still goof around with. I was also on the PDGA board when it was approved and then removed. Also, I think the Quest Wheel should be found on this list too.
Nice video, I throw a Prodigy D5 it has a similar rim as the groove but has a different flight pattern.
i really like ur content, u should get more views
Quest also had a disc called Wildfire, which sported a round bumped out mold shape at top center of disc making it looking like a space ship.
Quest AT was the brand. Also, the 10 meter putter that orginal was a stiff mold at stiffest allowable tolerances that type of plastic got stiffer over time to the point of shattering and even just cold temps not yet frezing or hitting a tree would do thos, then when discs were found in St Louis Dumpster behind Gateway, the molds were dumped there the new owner made the discs in Beloit Illinois/near there it became a disc as floppy as an Aerobe Squdgie or what ever that floppy Aerobe catch disc was called, it was the floppiest PDGA approved disc golf disc on the market ever, floppier then the also odd Steady Ed Special Discs from DGA, the Blowfly/II, the Gumputt, Gumputt Driver, and oop Gumputt putter that was a more grippy plastic Gumputt almost like eraser plasric from Gateway. The 10 Meter Putter made it so the PDGA had to imediatly write in rules so a mold could not have that center weight or made rules so a mold could not be made that way. Same thing happend with Areobie Epic change was made to rules so offset inner rims could not be made on a mold.
I have a disc called a vigil from a company called cross lap discs. It has something like a bead, but it’s halfway between the bottom of the rim and the flight plate. Super weird feeling, but flies okay. The main problem IMO is that the rim is already really shallow and this “bead” makes it feel even smaller. Never seen a review, so thought I’d mention it.
I have a ching MOJO putter which is my go to putter, it has thumb grooves all around the outer edge and is slightly off center, I always get told that it is the weirdest disc they have seen...now I can point them to this video as it did not make the list
I have thrown or seen quite a few of these. Owned a few Grooves, owned a few Rasks, had some Sinus as well. M5 looked like the discraft Duece. I did see some of the discs with the insertable rings while living in St. Louis. The wheel which was not mentioned as it was not approved was a strange one, designed for rolling was for me a total toss up on where it would go.
Wheel was approved for a 6 month period just in time for one PDGA Worlds and about the only big tournament it was used at where the one at the time Sponsored Discraft player had the disc in the bag secretly and used it as a last minute extra extra long hole nearly 2000 feet as a forehand roller to basically cheat a win with the roller using the flat mowed grass to his advantage on the nearly 2000 feet hole. This was the least deserving win at a Disc Golf World Championships ever and this was by Eric McCabe. Soon after about a year or two after the win, right after he helped make those Discraft videos, Eric McCabe helped to be a partner in getting Dynamic Discs going as a brand, dropping his sponsorship immediately after they could clone a low dome Buzz for him.
I want to hear more about the 10 Meter Brick, that's just hilarious.
Altough the hype around Sinus har cooled of because of other os approach discs within Trilogy its still a very popular mold and found in high ranked players bag. Nikko used to bag them with great result. Feldberg may not be a MPO dominant player anymore but its still one mold from L64 that he wont take out of his mixed bag.
And I also bag both the AP & SP myself ;)
I don’t know if its weird enough for this list, but I have the elevation koi and people think its really bizarre because its super floppy. If you throw it hard enough into the side of the basket, it can bend through the holes and go in which as of 2022 counts as a good shot. Very few discs out there that are flexible enough to do that
My Gumbputt and BlowFly 2 can probably do that. While holding the Gumbputt with my backhand grip I can flick my wrist and have the disc slap the back of my hand.
Love the Sinus especially in wind
As a player with stupidly accurate tomahawks (I got the hand of them and threw them for like two years as my primary drive before I learned to backhand properly) I love my Epics! Now that I can backhand drive well, I usually only reach for it when confronted with a strong head wind. In those conditions, I actually drive my farthest (YES into a headwind I drive my farthest) because the Epic can either just continue to corkscrew, or barrel roll once before leveling off and gliding out like a backhand drive drive, but from 50ft up, depending on how you bend it before throwing.
I have a turbo putt! It's a good idea, the only thing is that it is way too light for a putter, especially for turbo putting.
I also found a Champion Groove in some water lol. It actually threw ok but I didn't keep it. Saw a Turbo Putt at the pro shop and held it but didn't try it or buy it. Thought about it but didn't. I have an Epic but don't bag it. Pretty much a useless disc in my opinion. I do bag the Tilt though. It comes in handy for certain situations. My most understable disc is my 133g #1 driver. It's also beat to hell but still flies as good as it did when it was brand new. Great for low power hyzer flip/turnovers.
I own all them actually.
The weirdest disc you didn't mention (also by Quest AT) and maybe more weird than the Turbo Putt is The Wheel. It was literally designed to do nothing but rollers. Huge double sided concave, giant rounded edges for rolling. Thing was nuts.
Quest actually was the first company to also take on overmolds as well. They were always pushing the boundaries on what fit the tech specs.
Gateway made a disc called the Diablo DT that had dimples like a golf ball but only on the rim itself. It was supposed to cause lift while eliminating drag. It worked till it hit the ground and the dirt filled the dimples and the disc got damaged.
Lat64 also made another disc with the pads. It was called the Spike. Was a neutral putter with awesome glide. Surprised it wasn't more popular.
Pretty good list you put together. Keep it up!
Lat64 also had the Missilen, a 15-speed with grippy pads, a bit similar to the Sinus.
Missed the Blowfly
I have an Epic. Got it when they came out. Could never get it to fly very well backhand or forehand. Eventually, about a year later, I found the true beauty with the disc...overhand. It sits on my wall now
The creators of the Ozone Discs Andro C are locals to the disc golf club that I am a part of. I keep 3 of the Andro C's in my bag at all time. Great discs but unfortunately they are OOP.
I was waiting for Latitude 64 Bite. Really weird and unique design
In 1994 or 95 I had a disc that had a dimpled top like a golf ball, the dimples were about a quarter of an inch and went to about an inch and a half to the edge it was either a Discraft or a Gateway, dark blue, bought it at a convenience store close to Veterans Park in Arlington Texas, loved that disc.
It was Neither but was by DynamicDisc one word or original name Destiny Disc brand that was ban from saying molds were PDGA approved as the company made some molds that were also made in weights above the maximum limit for the molds above 175 grams for 21 cm molds, above 180 gram size and above 190 gram size as well as above 200 gram size for a catch disc they said was. This is different from Gateway where they make molds heavier then minimum but do label them as not PDGA approved on the disc and even if somebody stripped the stamp off, the mold has a stamp on the underside saying not PDGA approved that is a etched in type stamp.
Haved owned and still use the Champion Groove but like the the video says if you are not banging hard off the tee it can get away from you, I use a Splatter Star that has the same number markiings and am more consistent but still use the Groove if I'm going for a hard bend or curve shot.
Love me a Turbo Putter.
Back when I putted that way, it was the only way to go.
I had a Groove, best disc I ever owned, heard that no groove is like another one, so havent picked up a new one, think i won the plastic lottery
I know someone who owns a Groove. He hates it but won't give it up. I've borrowed it for a few shots, and I've had the most success using it as a thumber and it rolls quite well. But perhaps it's proof how inconsistent their production runs were.
...A disc I own that has a similar behavior is the Prodigy X3. But it definitely doesn't thumb as far as that Innova Groove.
So weird seeing my buddy in the ferris state ultimate photo just out of nowhere lmao
I've got a 09 innova groove I need to get around to throwing it someday
Forgot the Innova Condor as it is a 200 Gram max diameter ROC that Yes is PDGA approved since that came out roughly 5 years before I started playeing. The other big one from Innova is the Nova missing as that is so odd with the over mold design. Then you forgot the Monach a more loved disc then similar current Champion Groove most by those who like Innova discs. The other main Arobie disc back when the Disc golf discs were made was the Arrow putter, often used as a roller disc by those who did not use them as uphill downhill putters beuause they should have had a negative glide to the disc mold. Also, you do see the Sinus on the Pro/former National tour especially on the Silver Series, a few of the Latitude 64 or other brands made 100% by Latitude 64 sponsored players do use the disc due to the glide being crappier then what the brand says especially with a worn in puddle top and this works well an approach disc.
The groove you found in Florida didn't happen to be green and in Estero was it lol? I found one with no name, tried it out a few times, and chucked it into the water. Got it back and promptly threw it right back in the water. It was garbage lol
Quest AT also made a disc called The Wheel. Look that sucker up. I think it is even weirder than the turbo putt.
check of Epic and Rask. Another Aerobi disc that are strange is the sharpshooter with the rim outside instead of inside.
I had some aerobies. They go far if you tune them right.
I have been doing a video series like this there are some crazy disks out there!
I still have my Epic and Turbo Putt...and I learned how to Turbo Putt without it. ;)
No mention of the Aerobie Arrow? Really fun disc unlike anything I have ever seen
Latitude Raketen and Missillen.
Hex pattern surface, I believe to improve laminar flow for lower drag.
I have been pretty pleased with my Raketen.
It's OOP now, so it's worth some money... don't lose it.
I have both Epic and 10 M Brick. Haven't thrown them lately though :)
10 meter brick is weirdest & worst disc I have tried. I had thrown all but those insert ones. Sinus are amazing. Missilen had the hex grid texture and flies great
Was this original 10 meter Brick or the newer also gone brand, so floppy Champion/Z it will not work disc?
I found a groove in the water too lol
The new Doomsday Discs Land Mine is a pretty odd disc.It literally feels like a lid to a can.But it does fly pretty well. Not the craziest disc ever but a strange design and feel nonetheless.
Not as unique since the tilt exists, but the doomsday frag is pretty neat as well
AGL baobab is pretty wild as well
Ever putted with a pole cat? Its a 1 speed, and the edges and essentially vertical!
@@eggsnbeens I never have.I putt with Bergs though so I am a huge proponent of a 1 speed putter
@@eggsnbeens land mine has those flat edges as well, but has a bit more stability
The same grip patches of the Sinus have also been implemented with the Spike. I like it. It feels especially good for forehanding the disc, gives you a good, reliable grip. If I remember correctly they don't manufacture the grip pads anymore since they are prone to quality issues. But if you find one, try it out. People were bashing them in the day because they felt awkward in their opinion but honestly, if you don't like that part of the disc, grip it elsewhere. The Sinus and the Spike are both very good molds, the Spike is a deep alternative to an overstable approach disc and the spike is a nice, slightly understable putter that is actually pretty easy to throw forehands with due to it being shallow and the grippy texture.
The Raketen also has the grip patches.
@@jessesherlock1204 you're right, I totally forgot! The Raketen and the Missilen have the same surface design as a golf ball does to reduce drag. I think they're OOP for the same reason tho. They should've been mentioned in this video imo. 👍🏻
The Innova Monarch is a distance driver with a rim like the groove.
Flight numbers 10/5/-4/1
Bought it on a whim but really never throw it.
Man I miss my epic soooo much! Can't find 1 anywhere. Used to absolutely bomb mine overhand
You didn’t mention discrafts version of the groove called the wave but they all flew different one waaay understable and the next one so over stable it might as well be a flick lol
You miss the aerobie sharpshooter! I've got one only reason I thought of it
Another goofy AT Technologies disc was the wheel. A double sided putter built for rolling. Look it up, haha.
Dimple was a disc back in the 90's and this rock hard driver was covered in dimples like a golf ball. I have seen one disc with something like 6 large ones, but this Dimple was covered with tiny holes all over the top. You can find images online. (EDIT: Well, not holes of course but... yeah, dimples.)
I have a Champion Groove. Do I have any bids?
The Aerobie Arrow is also an odd one. Super straight putter and mid range disc with a very unique rim.
I forgot about that, Def shoulda been on the list but was useless as all get out because the grip was terrible lol
I played a round with a guy who threw nothing but those things forehand. Absolute laser every time. Fun to watch
still have an epic it skips so far left i use it for specialty shots that need to skip 90 degrees left, still have a groove but use my monarch more, i should mention i am older and bought these in the early 2000s when they came out
Quest was full of weird discs. the inferno and defender had golf ball dimples on the rim.
I bought a driver and a putter that were made by Cheng, and they have grooves on top for where you’re supposed to put your thumb. I dont know anyone else who used one or had one lol
Lol now I want a turbo putt
I have always wanted to find a video of someone actually throwing a turbo putt
I played with the groove with a lost and found random disc. Hated it lol
I'm slightly surprised you didn't talk about the ching line of discs. Juju, velocity, oracle, and genesis.
The turbo putt is awesome, i have one and used to turbo putt with it
Turbo putts are also pretty overstable and can be tomahawked decently as well
The first time I played disc golf, I found an groove with no ink that had obviously sat outside for a long time.
i love my groove, i use it for forehands only
what about the discraft pulse?
Wham-O max flight and yikun twin swords. I use the twin swords for forehand hyzer flip straight shot.
I actually turbo putt a lot. My regular putting is ass, and I am just somehow better at turbos. Bought a Quest set just for the turbo putter. Hated using it. Went back to turbo putting my DX Aviar. The knurled edge is nice, but that weird spiral in the middle makes it come off my hand all off angle.
The Long Ranger was given away by the case at Morley Field S. D. With max hyzer it would turn into a roller as the only way to get any distance. Go for getting you into trouble 😈
Who has the stl for this?
no latitude missilen/rakaten?
