      i thought it was common sense until i left school and applied for a job.. then i thought "this is normal - not to be empathetic" but to be "the best no matter what" and then i found great people like Simon who remind me that i wasn't wrong all along.

      @@gsftb Well, what is "right" or "wrong" exactly? I think it's up to each and everyone to decide at the end of the day. One of the most important characteristics you can obtain is integrity, honesty, and dignity. Those 3 traits alone are sufficient to make you a decent and respectable human being. Other than that, don't get caught up in "wrongs" or "rights" in everyday life, meaning don't be so judgemental. See things as they are instead, situations that play out, and how you want to deal with them.

    I'm an old retired middle level manager, and we never heard this type of motivational speeches before about how to manage. Every time Simon opens his mouth I am amazed, because he speaks to Perspective and Empathy and the need for Altruistic leaders as a way for businesses to sustain their forward movement and to treat their most important assets, their employees, as if they matter.
    If you can please pass this one to everyone on your mailing list. Businesses need to hear this more than they need profits in the short term.

    One example that I use is sports, we don't change 11 players when the team does not perform, we change the coach.

    • @TheChefcoco
      @TheChefcoco Před 4 lety +4

      I think it should not by apply that way. Coach is part of the team/employees. when the team is not doing well it doesn't take long that the coach gets fired. But if you apply what Simon Sinek is saying, the owners and the general direction should not give that much pression on the coach and should be empathic towards him and give him the tools to help the team.
      the coach have the burden to make it work, if not, he's out! That's not really proactive ! How can he be a good coach if every mistakes he makes can cost him his job?

    • @Muckito
      @Muckito Před 4 lety

      @@TheChefcoco Well it's not even his mistakes that can cost him his job. Maybe he doesn't connect with the players very well, that's not 100% on him, maybe some of the most important players are injured for months, maybe the team loses a few games due to bad luck, maybe there are groups of players inside the team who don't get along with each other.

    • @liamcallery2833
      @liamcallery2833 Před 4 lety +1

      sports analogies in business and leadership is so 1980. The the idea that the coach is the issue even though he might not have been taught the leadership skills is exactly what this video is talking about..... Its the idea that leaders are not born but developed. the idea that the coach may have been placed into a role he is not ready for is the issue.

    • @blipster17trtmn55
      @blipster17trtmn55 Před 4 lety

      That's not the message either because as you can see today, the trend has become that and when players intentionally underperform to get the coach out! That does not go in line with this presentation in my opinion. So I suggest you to revisit that. Remember it is about PERSPECTIVE AND EMPATHY.

    There isn't a single downside about the things he says. If everyone feels more secure and fulfilled in their work environment they are more happy. If they are happier they are doing their job better and are more friendly to the customers. Satisfied and happy customers means more job for the company itself 😊. • @blakebunch4485
      @blakebunch4485 Před rokem +1

      Emotional intelligence is a made-up term. There have been a lot of papers written about it however it amounts to nothing more than "agreeableness" the term emotional intelligence was coined by some journalist. What does it mean anyway? That I can infer what you're thinking or feeling. Maybe I know exactly what you're thinking and feeling and just don't give two shits. How do you differentiate emotional intelligence from empathy or sympathy? By the way it turns out that people who lack agreeableness and are disagreeable are the ones that succeed in the workplace. Not the other way around. Don't feed into the hype. I know they teach this in schools but schools are often wrong this is one case of many. I do hope you got your bachelor's degree and a good score on your thesis. I wish you well. Life itself is a classroom you can learn everywhere.

    • @human7491
      @human7491 Před 11 měsíci

      I don't like both adjectives. Agreeable and disagreeable. Let's rather use full sentences and say that emotionally intelligent people agree when they agree, disagree when they disagree. That's it. You don't have to view one as negative and the other one as positive. Feelings aren't fixated.
