Why does tinnitus get worse before it gets better sometimes

  • Julian talks about the mind and body split and how bringing them back together causes us to go into process. Letting these deeper eruptions pass through by getting back to our body-based practice is one of the best ways to let this process through to a calmer and more prolonged sense of well-being as we come out of shock.

And to All those suffering, take a breath and try and relax. Things get easier! I found with time I got used to the sound so much so that it just went into the back ground and mostly forget its even there now. Give it time, try and relax and look after your self. how are things right now? I am still having suicidal thoughts occasionally. I don't have the means nor the will to carry them through, but they're terrible. this video gave me some peace. it's not just the ringing, but the worst part is the horrible transitioning period from a person who is obsessed with tinnitus, their health, and in general external circumstances. I have little moments of peace here and there, like now. but everyday dealings I go into an automatic mode, and my mind tries to go to a baseline, and that's when I hear the harsh noises and the ringing within other sounds.

Keep it simple and pace yourself. First maybe go swimming a few times a week. Then start learning very easy yoga or tai chi and use this practice to self soothe. Have long baths, cold showers, only hang out with easy positive people. This is all very cheap. Over time aim for one practitioner to help you switch off and one body-practice to learn to switch yourself off with and this will help a lot.

Hi Julian after having really awsome days without tinnitus or very low tinnitus I started to go to theraphy (very intense therapy) the first day was a chakral removing session where I cried a lot and let out a lot of unresolved issues, the next day I woke up and my tinnitus was really loud. The next day I went to a chiropractor and they literally fixed my jaw (I had a severe bite problem and bruxism) and this therapy also led me in to crying and getting to know what my body needed. That same night my tinnitus got so loud. I am hoping the more I am getting help it will go away

I'm glad you're getting better. I do think it's worth mentioning that from my experience it's ultimately about managing stress. I developed tinnitus during a period while I was cutting out caffeine and taking cold showers; however, I had an episode when I was overwhelmed with intense stress, then my ears exploded with piercing sounds. I think once you address and manage the stress, then the cold showers, fasting, etc. can help with the healing process.

Yes. I have mild tinnitus and also have a feeling of fullness in my left ear which is the ear I have tinnitus. I also feel hypersensitive to sounds as well. I'm not sure if the hypersensitivity is due to the fact I have hearing loss due to too much load music or the fact that I'm just too tuned in to my tinnitus. As well as my hearing loss I have been anxious all times which makes tinnitus worse.

@@malena7362 it did. I still have tinnitus but I only hear it if I pay attention to it. I realized 99% of my “suffering” was my fear reaction to it. The volume didn’t change. My attitude about it did. The more you try to get rid of it or wish it to be gone, the louder it will be because you have trained your brain that it is dangerous. Like a good brain it will increase focus on it because you have trained it to believe it is a threat. So my advice is to understand that the majority of its loudness is due to your fear of it. Believe me when I say mine is still loud as I remember it, but I never pay attention to it because it no longer scares me.

So encouraging, and helpful. I can't get craniosacral therapy. Are there any self massage techniques out there? I've had times where my tinnitus as lowered, then risen, and moved from side to side. Had a hearing test and the audiologist told me I had one sound, at one pitch, and one level, not many, it didn't spike or any such thing that described to him. I asked him if he'd ever had tinnitus and he said no. Then how do you know what I'm hearing? Clinical research, he said. Hmmm. He ordered two hearing aids with masking technology. As I expected, he has no clue what this is all about. He's going to send me to an ENT at some undefined point. I have to wait a month for the hearing aid fittings. He told me not to wear earplugs but if I don't wear something, driving noises create a tinnitus spike like I am having now. A stiff neck also creates a spike if I sleep the wrong way on a pillow. I have some sort of pain at times between the shoulder blades, a disk pain perhaps, and my neck gets stiff. But I have chronic anxiety, take .5 Lorazapam every day. I know this is more about constant stress over unresolved issues than anything else. Your encouragement has really helped! I think I'd be lost without it.

Glad you have found it helpful. If you can't find a craniosacral therapist near you (check www.craniosacral.co.uk) then a good reflexologist, shiatsu practitioner, acupuncturist, osteopath or chiropractor can help too. I recommend weekly sessions and also take up yoga or tai chi and just go and learn it until you can practice it yourself. This will help bring down your anxiety, take the attention off the tinnitus and help your nervous system settle which causes tinnitus to calm down.

My tinnitus has decreased to %10 of how it was at the beginning. But I started to hear a very unsteady, irregular sound since the past 2 weeks. My doctor said it can be the sound of auditory fibers regaining their activity in my auditory cortex, which lost their ability to process the sound and caused my tinnitus in the first place and it will dissappear soon. But for some reason I can't believe that and feel depressed again after all that time to relax myself to get better !

      Thx for your update..
I developed also tinitus after an anxiety disorder 2014, used to take AD, for sleep and feeling well mirtazapine was too, but I am not sure , if that was the reason ..I get sick March 2013, but my tinitus came October 2014, with the years was becoming worse but it was manageable, i could hear it only in the night..6 weeks ago, after a very long period of mental stress, became so high pitched that it is killing me..
I can hear it everywhere, and all the time 24/7...
I am desperate and feeling very bad..
Having a habituated tinitus at scala 2/10, now it is 10/10, cannot mask it at all..Asking myself if I will be habituate once more..Thx for your update giving hope.

Hey i am 16 and 17 soon. With many month i have been crying the living hell out of my self these past 3 days. It started with alot of pain to my ears and then the day after i heard a bit of beuzzing and today i can hear less buzzing but some pipping. I have been to the doc and they told me that my ears looked fine from the inside and that i had a lot of wax in my left side. And i hear most of the pipping in my left ear but i still think its tinnitus. I also have a deep depression and i am really parnoid. I once believe that i had Als just becuase my arm started to shake for a few moments.. And that really got me down. So i im trying to see the truth and reality in this but it is hard and i feel so stupid and sad. When i get this "paranoia" i start to look up things.. last night i got up to 35 pages of forums of people who got past tinnitus and for people that it got worse to. I can't tell if it is going to be worse or better but i will protect my ears more then ever now. I only drink wat er and i workout and do meditation for myself. But i still need help.. i am going to speak with someone in school to get some help to my mind.. Becuase this is going to drag me down to the grave if i don't do something about it.. as soon as i hear any sound that isnt supposed to be there my body freezes and shuts down, i can feel how my heart goes harder and i pretend that i cant feel my body. This is to much for me... I just want someone to tell me that ill make it and that tinnitus wont kill me from the inside out. I also worry about my hearing, i still have some pain in the ears and my head from 3 days ago, but i still don't know of what to do.. Just please i need help, im sick and i don't know of what to do with myself anymore, the tinnitus wont hurt but my paranoia and my anxiety will drag me to my grave..

Best to do what most helps you relax and feel calm. Sometimes you need sound, sometimes you prefer quiet. Pleasant or easy background sounds can help you on the way down. Get help to switch off and relax from hands-on therapies and yoga, friends, positive experiences etc first and then as you get better and your hypersensitive hearing settles down you will find you care less about sounds in the background and your ears can start switching off and going back into screen-save mode. Hope that makes sense.

Actually I find most clients feel better after a cranial session and people generally make gradual or steady progress with tinnitus with regular therapy. However sometimes a tinnitus spike can appear out of nowhere. This can be deep process emerging from the depths when we are doing quite well.

Sometimes when we are really well and are feeling strong the nervous system can release more deeply held shock or trauma and go into process for awhile. This tends to come out of the blue for apparently no reason and when it settles we feel quite a lot better. This is a release from the depths so to speak.

I’ve had severe tinnitus for 5 years, in the real world tinnitus causes stress, stress doesn’t cause tinnitus, hearing loss causes tinnitus. Maybe you can not deal with tinnitus as well while you have extra stress in your life, maybe it even appears to be louder while stressed, but as far tinnitus going away by relaxation is nonsense. This guy also claims that his tinnitus was so loud that he couldn’t hear the telephone at one point, that’s called being deaf, I guess by calming the mind, you can gain hearing back as well. It’s sad, desperate people will believe anything. Where is the science saying that tinnitus can resolve once relaxed? Surely this should be main stream news by now, and not some secret that joe blow preacher on CZcams shares with his followers.
