    Tinnitus is a situation where rather than allow our brain to filter out the normal sound in our head, fear and anxiety causes our brain to tune in on it. The normal condition is to tune it out, the fear condition is to tune it in. The main part of cognitive behavioral therapy is to get the brain to understand the noise is normal and not a threat. This allows the brain to stop amplifying the sound and go back to tuning it out. This his consistent with Julian’s teaching. Julian adds body based therapy to speed the process up. Anytime you find yourself annoyed with the ringing remind yourself it is normal. Part of being human. If you accept it and lose all concern about it your brain has the ability to tune it out. You have to let your brain get bored with it. Not concerned by it. Your brain can tune it out but you have to let it do it’s work.
    You can’t get rid of it instantly so you have to accept it for now. Knowing that it’s temporary and your brains natural ability is to tune it out, should help you get rid of negative emotional reactions. The tuning out will happen naturally but it can take 6 to 18 months. By really understanding it is normal to have sounds in the head but you just did not react negatively before, should help you calm down. Accept it and it will go away. Weird but true.

    I have had tinnitus for around 7 years. I was in panic mode at first and found no relief. Once I learned to let go, it was a zero issue in my life. In a quiet room if I really listened hard, I could hear it sometimes, other times not at all. I've had a spike recently probably due to a virus, but this time I'm calm and just waiting for my body to rebalance. These things do get better, it just takes time.

I used to have noticeable tinnitus about 5 years ago, I completely forgot about it, and out of the blue, it came back as I was relaxing in bed last night. But now I got a little bit used to it and it doesn´t bother me as much. Lucky for me, I only hear a hum (sssssss), and not some awful notes. The volume of my tinnitus varies. The only cure for me is a nose septum operation. But like you said, whatever the cause of someone´s tinnitus, the sooner you start to ignore it, the better. The less it will bother you and it will seem less loud. I know it can be hard to ignore this awful sound, but I guarantee it CAN be done.

    Tinnitus is related to emotional processing. It can be triggered by stress, exacerbated by anxiety, and made worse by obsessive thoughts.
    Stress and tinnitus are cyclical; a vicious cycle. That's why patients need to make new associations in the brain, and cognitively work to overcome the hard-wired fight or flight response that triggers tinnitus spikes.
    You need to learn to be at home with your tinnitus. (Not comfortable, I know)
    But by being aware of, and controlling the physiological responses that manifest your body, you cognitively work to control the condition. Your goal should be to anticipate the panic, understand your tinnitus and your body's reaction to it - that way you can stop being afraid of it when the inevitable spikes arise, as they will until a control of the CNS manifests.

    A good way of tuning out tinnitus is by learning to befriend it. We can encourage this process by remembering that the sound of tinnitus is only one sound among many. Tinnitus is often the result of a single, narrowed focus on self, to the exclusion of a wider engagement with the outside world. When we listen to the sounds of the birds, the wind blowing in the trees or down a chimney, for example, we expand our consciousness and awareness outwards, out into the world, which is the opposite of a laser-like focus on the sound made by tinnitus. We can lessen the significance of the tinnitus and see it in the context of the bigger picture and gain perspective. It is only one sensory sensation in a universe of other more interesting sights and sounds.

    Thank you for this much needed info. I’m also reading that accupressure has been very successful in healing it. Mine was bought on by listening to rock music on iPods. (Update: Aug 2020 was not only noise trauma but neck trauma from dancing and stress from pandemic. Had hearing test and it’s normal.)
    Does this pertain to this kind of tinnitus or are you only addressing it being stress related? As far as ppl not talking about their own healing regardless of what the illness is. I found this evident when I was researching to heal another issue. All I found was negative struggling and suffering. Not many ppl talking about their cure. Update: Aug 2020 there are lots of ppl who’ve healed this so I’ve discovered over months of research.
    Here’s some info: From what I’ve read and watched in videos is that tinnitus or ringing in the ears can be the result of noise, head or emotional trauma, or any kind of physical accident, stress and anxiety, certain medications, EMF’s from WIFi/5G or upper cervical subluxated Atlas and Axis (C1 and C2) neck related issues and even chemicals from hair dyes. Some people also believe it’s part of the ascension process into a higher frequency. The standard explanation is that the brain is basically in fight or flight mode and you’re hearing your own neural pathways on red alert. It can rewire itself over time by using a process called neuroplasticity which fundamentally is ignoring it and calming it through relaxation techniques like meditation, yoga, Qi gong and/or exercise and/or neck release exercises called trigger point therapy and upper cervical chiropractic adjustments and by reducing/removing salt, sugar, dairy, carbs and alcohol (all cause inflammation) and Salicylates and oxylates from the diet and fasting, intermittent or otherwise. It may also be a deficiency of either zinc, iron, iodine, magnesium, D3 and K. Check out Julian Cowan Hill, Liam Stops Tinnitus, James Karthaus, Peter Studenik and Joey Remenyi.They all healed from tinnitus using their own (and sometimes combined) techniques. Here’s a list of videos with success stories and healing techniques. czcams.com/play/PLxLNqBGWBhLxphlCH3dC1j3iPcs8hWRme.html

      NOISE HXBIT no it has not because I’ve just had my first chiropractic adjustment yesterday and it’s been quite loud because the neural pathways have been agitated. Also, going out into a public building after four months of being inside our condo (except for dog walks once a day) was stressful so a combination of the two made it ramp up. T is a symptom of other issues and it can be a wake up call to looking more within oneself and making changes. Please watch the videos I included here. There’s four months of research on the list. Pick and choose what works for you. Better health to you.

    It's ironic that the people with anxiety are the ones that get anxiety provoking conditions. Although perhaps there is a reason. Perhaps there is a lesson that our bodies/emotions are trying to teach us about how to be. And they put us in situations of extreme pain so that we may overcome and learn the lesson we needed to learn. In many cases. How to relax, how to let go. Something our future will benefit from.
    One question, hot showers seem to make my tinnitus and visual snow worse. Can't quite see how that works. Because they also relax me.

    • @JulianCowanHill
      @JulianCowanHill  Před 7 lety +1

      That's new to me. How is your mind when you take a shower? Are you anxious that it will make it worse or can you just enjoy the shower?

    • @matthewcullen3486
      @matthewcullen3486 Před 7 lety

      No I generally feel better. More relaxed. My mind is still chattering. Just in a more creative and calm way, since a lot of my stress and anxiety seems to be coming from my muscles themselves due to cpps.
      I think it's like when you are holding your fist tight, it might go numb when it's tight, yet when you first release it it goes through more discomfort before it gets better.
      My entire body an mind is like a clenched fist. So even slightly releasing it causes a pushback effect.

    So basically if you had something happen to your ear and fixed it like ETD when you get rid of it your brain still thinks there’s danger so this means that your brain is telling you by giving you a sound or a few but if you tell your brain that it is okay or it is nothing your brain makes friends with the sound and you can back it off (is this right?)(I’m only 11 and have t because of of having ETD so if I can make my mind settle is the t just going to back off)I have hissing and whooshing in my right ear because of having ETD and I use to only have hissing my ear and only had humming/ringing when I ywon but I yonwed and the ringing haven’t stopped and now I’m scared so will it just go away when I settle? please reply.

      It is best to go to your doctor and have your ears checked and make sure everything is ok. The ringing in the ears can improve when we relax, settle and switch off. It is linked to the stress-response. So learning things like yoga to relax and take your mind off the ringing, and having calming massage to help you switch off can help a lot. It would be great to talk to your parents about this and get their support. Wishing you a steady recovery.

    You raise a great point. I'm new to tinnitus but I know what triggered it. I suffered damage to the back of my brain, my cerebellum and brainstem, due to a neurotoxic reaction to an antibiotic. This creates some significant symptoms, but most of them resolved. However, I physically over-exerted myself recently, and due to this damage, my body's reaction was to have a major flare up of my neurological symptoms...and then tinnitus. And of course, this caused horrible anxiety, and that has made the tinnitus worse! However, I believe the tinnitus is due to an over-active CNS, and I have every belief it will calm down here in the upcoming weeks. I'm resting, eating better and trying not to get upset about the ringing--either it'll diminish or I'll adapt...or maybe a bit of both.
    And your statement about groups online is 100% true. We have a support group for our specific neurotoxicity, and I have to remind new members all the time--people who have recovered from this DON'T NEED a support group.

      Rien Jen - I'm also new to this Tinnitus noise. It's been since 13-November-2017. I had a scan [ mri] on my lungs to check for damage after bronchitis. To do the scan I had to have dye injected -- as soon as I left the clinic the ringing started. I think it affected my kidneys [ the ears are the opening to the kidneys ]. I've been trying massage, acupuncture, Chinese Medicine, cranial therapy, osteo adjustments, I've recently started QiGong a few days ago. Western medicine is [ in my opinion ] useless when it comes to tinnitus, and I think also the cause of some cases of tinnitus.
      I'm also resting more, eating better, and trying to adapt and not freak out due to the ringing. How are you feeling now ?

    I cured my OCD (an other neurosis stuff) without any pills. Only with ignoring symptoms and chilling my mind. I see Julian is using same techniques with tinnitus and it seems legit for me becouse of neuroplaticy. I think it will work and i will try his metods to eliminate tinnitus. First huge step is not look at tinnitus as a dangerous. Its a part of you and u dont have to fear about it. It incrases with adrenaline. If u fear it adrenaline will incrase so your noises will be louder and round and round. U see that? If i stopped fear my thinks in OCD they dissapear becouse of no reaction. Situation with tinnitus is simmilar. Sorry for my bad english.

    carefully listened to Julian but still unsure. What is the key to soften the tinnitus? To habituate or to forget/mask/ignore ?
    I ask because when the tinnitus nerves me I put on my headphones hearing white noise like Sound of sea. But doing this I think I Do not habituate. So is it the wrong way because hearing Sounds to cover will be a relief but not helping to habituate to get the tinnitus better in a long term view?
    I ask because I always thought that it is good not to listen to the tinnitus and White noise helps but I think it is against the habituation rule. Thx for any comment

So get help eg craniosacral therapy or a good body work who can settle your nervous system down and bring you out of fight or flight. This will bring the reactivity and hypersensitivity of your auditory system down. The more you feel safe and relaxed the more your hearing will stop listening out for danger so acutely and the more the noise will quieten down.
