    I've had tinnitus for almost 7 months, and I'm starting to hear it rarely now. The more I don't care about it, the less I notice it. I only hear mine when its very quiet but it still freaked me out in the initial stages.

    • @pavelexpertov
      @pavelexpertov Před 6 lety +2

      Onmysheet did you try yoga by any chance or any other therapy? it's just i had tinnitus for the same amount of time as you and i am curious what you did about it. i am in the same position where ypu are in that i don't care most of the time.

    • @Onmysheet
      @Onmysheet Před 6 lety +11

      I did nothing really. At first, I was reading about how eating junk food and alcohol would make it worse, but in the end I just said to myself "Fuck it, I'll eat what I want to eat" and I've just let time do the healing. When I read forums it's always the positive stories but I should consider exercising in the future. But I will admit the first month sucked so badly.

    • @pavelexpertov
      @pavelexpertov Před 6 lety +5

      I will say that exercising does help: I used to do running for the last 5-6 months and when you exercise very hard to the point of feeling that you are gonna collapse in a second, you are aware of the body and then you hear tinnitus less or even none of it for like 5 minutes or less. However, just out of interest, do you think that tinnitus changed your personality or any of your characteristics? I believe I have (somehow). It's just I read some posts on a particular forum where some individuals recognised tinnitus as a driving change in their personality. What do you think?

    • @Onmysheet
      @Onmysheet Před 6 lety +13

      Tinnitus does change your perspective about people with depression. Before I had tinnitus I thought that depressed people were just weak beings, and I just think to myself "Why can't they just stop being like that" but now I know it's not that simple, as it shows that you don't have any control of your mind than you think you do. That is the scary part.

    I developed Tinnitus in November last year, it just started out of the blue, I'm a migraine sufferer and think it was due to years of different medications
    I now have learned to live with T, I try not to focus on it, I'm a busy mum with a wedding approaching and have so much going on that I have accepted the Tinnitus after all you have to, as nothing can really be done! It's all down to you now Then once you accept it it does quite down and you stop listening for it, I didn't believe that could happen but it truly does
    When I'm stressed it gets loud but when I calm down, so does the T so in a way it's telling me to try be less stressful, that can be hard at times!
    It's a horrible thing to have to deal with, but it doesn't have to be. Focus on your family anything in your life that makes you happy, get out go for walks, swimming anything to distract you watch a film you'll soon start to not notice it 👍👍 Julian is the best, and literally gave me hope when I first developed Tinnitus as the doctors just said, learn it live with it!!!! without any advice.....

      Does it intensify or change with neck or jaw movements? Did you have neck/shoulder pain when it started? It could be a somatic form of tinnitus, meaning that your muscular or skeletal structure is causing or at least worsening your tinnitus.

    When i realized, took notice, of my tinnitus, i freaked out, it's felt so loud just because my attention was all on it. It was kinda scary, was i becoming def? Now it's constantly there, a part of the ambient sounds and as he says maybe 10% of what i hear but it's not really like hearing, it's just a thing that is there. I just can't sleep without tv or music or something to accompany it. Because then it's just too distracting for me too sleep. I've been having one(whistling type) for so long now, i don,t recall when it started, a decade ago, 2? Gotta accept it.

    My tinnitus started quite quietly 4 and a half years ago , and I have tried to carry on with my life. Unfortunately , it is now so loud I have no option but not to hear it. I am also virtually on ' breakdown ' from the debilitation of it. I have virtually no energy now to ' not hear it' . It is a very scarey place to be. And lonely as I have been asking for help , but everyone seesm to say its because I am actively listening fro it. I am not. I am not scared of the tinnitus ( anymore than I was scared of migraines when I had them ) but the DEBILITAION it has brought so I can no longer work fulltime , struggle to do much without the pain

    • @donaldderp1602
      @donaldderp1602 Před 6 lety +3

      The worst will pass, you will get better again. Mine recently got worse to point of breakdown, back to migraine & no sleep, had to leave my job... but even now I know that I will have better times ahead and the line of work I chose was not ideal for my condition. It's a combination of stress and hearing damage that causes it to get much worse for me. The best thing to do is eat healthy, getting plenty of exercise, listen to your body, establish a routine for sleeping, if you don't like something try to avoid it, always remember you're more free to do what you want than you might think.
      Use maskers whenever you can, try acoustic neuromodulation for taking the edge off, hang in there the pain will subside as your brain learns it's not a threat.

    Is it possible to habituate pulsatile tinnitus. I have had investigations and no cause can be found.

    • @JulianCowanHill
      @JulianCowanHill  Před rokem

      The cause is most likely to be stress which has heightened your hearing sensitivity so that you are now detecting the cardiac pulse inside your head. When the sensitivity and stress come down again your hearing system will stop monitoring your pulse and this will get filtered out again. Even if bones and arteries have narrowed or changed position causing your hearing system to be able to hear more pulsing, this can still be filtered out. Please follow the guidelines on my app www.quietenapp.com and learn to distract your attention with body work and practices and building up a better understanding of how this condition works. Best wishes Julian

      I would pursue your career and at the same time learn how to really relax and settle your nervous system by learning gentle yoga or tai chi and having regular hands on therapy to relax you for example like Craniosacral Therapy. The more relaxed you are the more you can focus and do your job well. Aim for well-being And surely this will help you achieve your goals.

      lanee boyle no, it’s the opposite i’m pretty sure. people who have hearing loss are more likely to hear ringing, but the ringing itself doesn’t damage your hearing. it’s not even a noise, it’s a noise you hear that isn’t really there.

      How are you now? I am similar with you. It's very loud when I sleep, that's why i need white noise to put me at ease. And when i wake up it's a bit low, then gets louder throughout the day. My conclusion is probably when we wake up, our mental is fully refreshed from good night's sleep. Then during the day, we're spending our energy on doing our daily activities as well as coping with the T. That's why probably it gets louder.
