Dude however tragic it may be, it's a dose of reality that most of us need. I've seem some gory stuff online and it disturbs, makes me feel like a piece of meat. But it reminds you that we are all humans and all that some of our problems are superficial. Also makes me appreciate my own family.
In the first article I found, The young girl and her dad drowned after falling into a hole which was created when the ship fell to it's side. A female bartender was on a lifeboat hen she fell over, and because she wasn't wearing a life jacket, she was pulled down by the current created when the ship tilted on it's side. Another woman was told to get out of a lifeboat because it was full and was thought to be unsafe for her to board. Terrified by the edge of the ship, she jumped in the water without a life jacket and not knowing how to swim and drowned. A man got on a lifeboat but willingly gave his place to another person only to drown. This is the article: news.sky.com/story/costa-concordia-victims-last-moments-revealed-10452732

I still don't understand how the Costa Concordia even set sail despite all these technical and superstitious problems (obviously technical being more important). Shows how much greed and corruption there is at the top.

What technical issues? Also bad luck alone won’t stop a ship from sailing, it’s just superstitious. What greed and corruption? The whole point of this is to show the stupidity of the captain, and partially the crew.

19:58 I've always thought that if humans don't lose ultimate control of their destiny to legitimately capable AI or something else it's only a matter of time until it destroys itself. If the exponential growth in potential continues long enough for that to be a possibility, it will happen inevitably sooner or later. Humans are flawed and prone to failure so it's literally guaranteed with time.

People died because they were trapped while the water entered the ship and drowned, others died when the ship was now completely tilted and fell into the water, including a 5 year old girl. Here in Italy it was a traumatic event and this video is too ironic

All ships on the water are regulated by the country that their home port is in. Like a cars registration is always attached to a physical address. Some people do not renew their registration, and a ship with no registered home port is essentially pirated.
Speaking within the context of cruise vessels, there are hundreds, if not thousands on Earth. One large cruise ship sails under the US flag (home port Honolulu, serviced at Pearl). Why? US regulations are the most stringent. Most other countries' regulations are very relaxed even though they get slightly tightened after major events like this.
Every crew member on a US cruise ship must be a trained and license carrying Merchant Marine. The credentials can only be obtained through the US Coast Guard after completing a course and a physical. From cook to captain, you need to be fully trained in fire suppression, crowd control, lifesaving, and more. Needless to say, people who have the USCG credentials get paid more, and therefore, you have all but one large cruise ship sailing under the US Flag.
I grew up on the Great Lakes, and my family owned many boats of various sizes. I trained to be a US Merchant Marine. I worked on various vessels throughout the Pacific.
