They are what they are, we must be physically able, and prepared to come to the battlefield. These dogs lift us out of the Maya of the humdrum of the material world. God is alive in them; we must educate ourselves.

My malinois is a big baby, he's so spoiled that he cries when I don't let him sleep in my bedroom, and loves being carried in my dad's arms even though he is a giant dog. He also likes to watch TV while cuddling with my brother and play with squeaky balls.
It all depends on how you raise them, or how you educate them, they're no bad dogs.

100%. People don't understand the difference between a working line of dog breeds, and non working lines (YES I know the Mal is a working dog, that is NOT what i meant. You can tell these puppies come from a working line due to their instinct to bite like this). My boy was never like this as a puppy, and his mom was a service dog (as i hope mine will be). I 100% taught him bite inhibition the moment I got him home, as I'm not stupid. But he's so gentle he'll catch a snowball without destroying it! He'll have bursts of energy, but it's still nothing like the energy of a working line Malinois.

The malinois was originally bred for herding cattle. Now they’re used my military and police agency and by civilians for general security. They’re very active K9s and generally speaking they shouldn’t be around toddlers. Don’t let this video disuade you from owning a Belgian malinois. They’re very sweet intelligent dogs. It all depends on how you treat a dog.

I have NEVER seen a Mali have a problem with ANY age. I am a female Veteran, with many years experience with both Malinois and Dobermans. It is the responsibility of the owners to properly supervise any interaction between any dog and child, or stranger. It is ALSO the responsibility of ALL parents to supervise their children in the vicinity of any breed of Dog. My first Mali was only a pup when we imported him. He had no problems with people of ANY age...even our youngest son and the multitude of other children ALWAYS in our home and yard. He loved everyone, but if you were a stranger attempting to enter our gate without one of us being present, GOOD LUCK. Should have obeyed the “Beware of Dog(s)” and “No Trespassing” signs we conscientiously posted at the gate and around the 3 acres of fence.
He was as loving as they come, and he was NEVER over-active nor too energetic to also be a beloved member of our family. I think it is a fallacy and it is in the worst interest of the breed to promote things that aren’t true. It is ALSO important to understand WHERE your dog is coming from and exactly what that means. I personally prefer the Malinois from Eastern Europe...IF my Schutzhund Trainer/Coach/Mentor/Former Mali breeder/friend, and someone licensed to import dogs is involved in both selection and does the import (unless he decides to breed again...which he won’t, as it is a LOT of work, and we are all 23 years older!!). There are MANY good breeders here, however, sadly, there are likely MORE backyard breeders. Check for pedigrees. Ask for email addresses of other purchasers. Inquire with the AKC how many litters these parents, and any others this breeder has produced. Less is better. Which sadly, leads me to another point.
My husband was devastated at the loss of Exi, whom would NOT have died had he been neutered by the age of 5, which I requested, and continued to request until it was too late, though he was fortunate enough to live until he was 12 or 13.
My husband was more than devastated, so I sent him to “play” with our longtime trainer/mentor/see above. I knew it would cause him to want to compete again, which it did. As I was going through a serious illness, I was not involved in his decision to go to a backyard breeder, the next weekend.
Our second Mali was just as lovely as our first, or so I thought. Only a year after getting him, my husband committed suicide. My beautiful, beloved Mali lost his favorite person, and his trainer. That lead to a series of tragedies that further traumatized him (with GREAT reason) until he became fear aggressive. I only found out recently (a year after the suicide and ensuing events) that he had shown signs of being unstable early on, though never here at home.
He was shy around new people, but many pups are. In my case, however, I lost both other dogs to old age, and my Mali was again traumatized. I accidentally hurt his hips one day, and he mauled me, though he could have killed me had he wanted to. He adored me, and it was 100% my fault, but he began to try to bite anyone but me and my best friend. I should have had him euthanized at the time, but I wanted to do all I could to try and save him. I failed, and just had to euthanize him a few days ago. If you want a good dog, you will spend the money, have him/her temperament tested, and use a qualified expert to find your breeder and do these tests. Even Labs can become dangerous, through circumstances or poor shepherding.
If they have symptoms of being unstable at a young age, consult an expert.
The bottom line is that any dog can become dangerous, but making a blanket statement about a breed, such as “Breed X” should not be around toddlers will only lead to that breed becoming the next Pitt Bull.
Please be wise in dog ownership. It is our responsibility to do our due diligence, and to maintain control of our animals around outsiders and the young. It is also our responsibility to be advocates for our animals, not instill fear with ZERO evidence to back up your statements.

I have one that's 7 yrs old I've trained her to be friendly and accepting to whomever I interact with. However, her prey drive is as strong as advertised, she tolerates no 4 legged visitors in the back yard like, rabbits, possums, mice, or squirrels. She's not aggressive towards unfamilar dogs she's just curious about them like most dogs would be. Its crazy because if I don't want to give her something she gives me a protest bark its not an aggressive bark its her communicating to tell me she wants it, if I sternly say no she accepts it and keeps quiet. She's very eager to please me and she's a real joy to interact with because she understands me intently without much work.

I loved and miss my Malingator. They are not a Dog for the faint of heart or the owner that is soft of will. When you play tug with a Malinois be prepared for hours and I mean HOURS of jerk your shoulders out of socket tugging. Pick up a ball (don’t use Tennis Balls, they’re abrasive) in the head of that Mali, that’s a day long commitment and possibly longer. But at the end of the day when that fur missile cuddles up on top of you, it’s a great feeling. Not to mention they’re also the goofiest dogs.

@@malinoisamericanakita2022 Well, like with every cross breeding, you never know which genes will be prevalent. It is really hard to predict what you will get. Most important is to bring up the best in them, because every dog if handled bad will become "bad dog", and even most aggressive can be kept under control. At the end it is all about handler.
Personally I would never cross breed Malinois, at least not intentionally. They are perfect dogs as they are, but they are not for everyone.

@@malinoisamericanakita2022 Ah, you already have him. I recommend to find some dog school in your area which is working Positive Reinforcement method. For me clicker method work wonders.
Most important is to have contact with him. With good contact, he will learn faster, he will always come when you call even from tricky situations etc. (I can call out my dog from fight when she is attacked, and even if other dog bites her she will not react until I say "you can", that is our cue that she can teach him a lesson when his owner did not) so I would work on that 1st.
i.e. wait until he look you in the eyes and then fast give him a treat/play (here clicker is helping tremendously), then call him and wait to look into your eyes then treat/play until you get it to look you as soon as you call him.
When I am working with dogs, contact is base for every other work, and that I am learning owners to do 1st.
When/if he snag again try to ignore him (both of you must ignore him, partner and you, no matter who was snagged), and I mean full ignore. Stop for several minutes, no play, no food, no treats,... but don't punish him physically it will only be worse. If he approach you, you just turn head or whole body other way. He will ask for attention in many ways, just ignore him (it's hard i know, they are cute and you need heart of steel, but it is working and it is not doing harm to dog or to you). After 5ish minutes start to play/work with him again like nothing happened, and before he even try to snag give him a treat or toy. Rinse and repeat until he stop doing that. He will learn fast what is happening, and he will stop snagging. He is puppy, and smart puppy, so he is testing what is allowed and what not, you have to show him the way.
Always be calm and confident when you are with him. When handler is not confident then dog is confused, also never anticipate bad things (i.e. you are passing by another dog, do not anticipate fight or whatever, mistake I saw most owners are doing).
Like I said, if you have no experience try to find school and it will save you lots of headache. Even for those with experience it is good place to start, because of socialization and learning to be close to other dogs but paying attention to you (contact again is base here), IMHO much better than dog park because ppl in dog parks can be,... well to put it mildly they can be strange :)
All you have described is normal for a puppy, but it must be corrected. The fact that you are asking here or any other place is showing me that he is in good hands. All you need is patience, confidence and nerves of steel :)
Chasing cats is high prey from Mal genes, and it is actually sheppard characteristic to have his heard under control also partly it's a puppy play, but they are rough so that must be corrected too. Chasing cats will pass, and then you will have most protected cats in the area :). And don't forget that cats also have to get used to him. If they don't run from him, he will not have what to chase. So it's a learning process for both sides.
I hope that helped a bit, it is hard to help much via comments on YT. But what I wrote are some essentials for creating good behavior in dog and at the same time confident protector.
      Good luck.
p.s. when he get about year old it may look that he went crazy or forgot everything you have learned him, or it may even have some strange fears, but all that is normal, it is dogs puberty. Don't let that discourage you It will pass after few months. Just continue to work with him even if it look that he does not respond anymore. It's normal phase in dog's life.

I never had to train her after I adopted her, she just naturally has been fully devoted to me and the wife. I will forever miss her and love her!
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the breed, here’s a summary of their type:!my dog hasn’t eaten or drank in two days, yet I can’t stop her from continually patrolling the house. She keeps walking around making sure everything is safe. Despite running on fumes she puts her family first. THIS IS A MALINOIS! Unconditional love and devotion until the end!!!! They will give their life so that you may live, just like Jesus.

A lot of you are getting confused about the purpose of this video! This video is not to talk badly or shed a negative light on Malinois. It’s to inform people that have no clue about the breed and decide to buy a puppy out of nowhere just because of a highlight video or a movie. Belgian Malinois are born with a high prey drive especially if they were bred by a working dog breeder. Their aggression at a young age is natural. This is the reason a huge amount of Belgian Malinois end up in shelters due to bad breeders and uninformed buyers.

      @billbaggiotmua372 Před 3 lety +7

I understood totally. They are not for the faint hearted - time, dedication and experience i would say is a must. I hate it when i see people with a new puppy or dog and then 6 months later the dog has been sold as the owner was irresponsible for buying that breed in the first place. Their excuse is usually the dog is too boisterous or they did not have time for the dog.... People need to make sure they are in the right place and time in their life to home a dog or any animal. Do your research people, make sure you can afford to feed, vet, house and train your dog/puppy. Before buying one because they are cute and cuddly or a fashion piece to show off to with friends and family.

I recently have gotten a Mal puppy. We took him in as he was abandoned at the foot of our house and left whimpering outside in the cold. He's only 4 months old but he already learned the command sit after a few days of training. Though, when I try to take him out for exercise he ends up accidentally biting me. I am trying to correct the behavior right now because he bites my legs and sometimes doesn't realize he hurt me. I try not to run with him because he ends up trying to bite my leg and make me stop so I have to walk away from him and then make him run towards me so he can exercise. He is very cute and funny and I think he will be a good boy, though he bites my other dogs a lot while trying to play. I have another Mal that's a crossbreed with a German Shepherd and she's the type to be aggressive. I'm not sure why because we got her from the street when she was 3 years old so it must be her experiences there. Nothing bad has happened with the dogs other than the puppy getting a bit scared of the other large dog.
