    The training and bonding were just outstanding. The use of treats, consistency, repetition, time, and attention are what it takes to get these results. Takes me back in time and all the great memories when I was training my high drive GSD.when he was a puppy, adolescent, and now adult. Jake is 7 years old and 88 lbs. Just found one Belgian Malinois on a highway near the beach while driving. Well, he found me...
    I could see his bones so decided to go and buy a couple of dog food pouches, went back, fed him and even though my wife and I have a 4 months baby, we couldn’t say no.
    We took him to the vet and he was a 6 months dog, dehydrated and hungry pup.
    After 2 weeks he’s a happy, lovely and energetic pup, and I’m training him for basic commands.
    After 3 days he learned how to seat, and to follow me. I love the dog (Blacky) and he loves me 🤣 (wife gets jealous).
    Just have to teach him to be kind with the baby cause when he sees her, he tends to softly bite my babies feet, but nothing to worry about.
    Best decision ever!

      Any working dog needs a knowledgeable owner. Most people want a dog that they can feel protected but do not know the first thing about dogs. That is one of the reasons we have so many shelter dogs in the US. A lot of people get a dog that is too much for them to handle and or care for. But lets also look at the Breeder’s selling dogs just for profit and not the health of the dog or a responsible owner but the moneys. Poor dogs.

If you go biking or running with him a few times a week, Ofcourse he is gonne have alot of energy, if they learn to just play sometimes and then chill the fuck down, they will do that too.

I literally walked him between 35 and 40 miles a week. He's 2 now and when I say lets go for a walk, he hides. I literally walked him so much he hates it. He is not hyper at all. On July 1st I got him an 8 week old sister called Bella. We have had her 2 weeks and she is just about house trained AT 10 WEEKS Old!!! She also sits when I put her food in the bowl until I say she can get it. These dogs are easy to train, they are so smart and learn fast. I will never own another breed!!

    What a happy malinois to have such dedicated people. To all the people who want to only stress how "hard" these dogs are to keep: Look at this dogs stress levels - they're very reasonable! I'd imagine that's because there's such balance in the training and everyday life, there's no need to pant, whine, bark or look for something to bite. Many malinoises that are shown here on CZcams with loads of activities, are not necessarily happy and balanced. Many of them are stressed. This video was a joy, thank you!

      My mali girl mellowed out too, at about 2 years old. Really surprised me, she is my first mal, and the first working breed dog I've had that calmed down before at least 7 years of age. I expected with a Malinois there would be no off switch until they get much older. I think it might be partly because she is a female. Still ready to go any time, to do anything outdoors, but she definitely has an off switch and she is only 2 1/2 years old.

      You have your collar in the wrong place. It needs to be up higher on their neck. Right at the jugular. Believe me, if you place the collar up high, they cannot pull and just a few jerks will get their attention. I have trained dogs, without treats with this method with total success. It takes 5 minutes to correct the pulling behavior doing it this way. It's really about training the humans to put the collar in the effective place. Just try it! It works for even the toughest cases. I learned directly from the "dog whisperer himsef", Ceasar Milan. Try it! And your dog won't take you for a walk anymore!

    • @tarapablo
      @tarapablo Před 7 lety +11

      My dog is trained in similar way as yours but without an e-collar because she is quite sensitive to harsh corrections. And there is nothing wrong with using e-collar as long as the owner uses it RESPONSIBLY. And that means that you can use it, if you know how, for corrections and corrections only, when the dog already knows, what he/she is supposed to do, and never for teaching it commands. That way you can have a happy dog who is not afraid but still works beacuse it wants to and not because it is afraid.
      And great job with your malinois, btw. I wish someday I can get my own mal and be able to train it as good as yours is trained :)

      In my experience (40 years of training) those same people, who love to tell you YOU are wrong, have the most uncontrolled and obnoxious dogs. They have opinions that you must agree with, but very little experience or basis for their opinion. It's just right because they say so and you are wrong because you don't do it their way. Your results speak for themselves. That is one lucky dog, well behaved, very happy. Lots of different types of training so he gets all kinds of experiences. Their dogs are trained in 6+ different skillsets. Really. NOT. I was really impressed that you go to that length to give him mental and physical stimulation like that. I train in a field full of elk almost every day. Those 100 hundred elk weigh over 700 lbs and could care less about clickers or the which P or R was used. They will just stomp a dog to death and I have seen it happen to other people's dogs. I also use an e-collar as a safety backup on that field. It's like an airbag. If it's not used I don't even notice it's there. But I want it in my car. And hell yes it hurts when it goes off. Ask anyone that's happened to. Then ask if they wish it wasn't in the car. I rarely comment on videos, but had to on this one. You have done a wonderful job.

      I see this is from a year ago and just wondering which way you decided? They can be very headstrong and one must be a confident handler, not resorting to screaming, yelling, or other drastic punishments. Emotion doesn't belong in dog training and it's tough for many to do, but that would be my top tip. Consistency is the key and yes, they really do need to be part of an owner's active lifestyle that includes these dogs as part of your daily life with few exceptions...daily training and fun sessions and plenty of walks and socialization with humans and other animals...especially children (in rescue you may find a dog matched to your own lifestyle....not all as in any breed are high energy, but most of them are and in the wrong hands can bring out an aggressive side). Confident and firm guidance with appropriate punishment is the way to go or they will get very bored, naughty and potentially destructive. They need structured activities and lots of socialization!!

    • @MarkandTreat
      @MarkandTreat  Před 6 lety +24

      That's a good question, because the answer is not that straight forward. The quick answer is that we actually conditioned to dog to think that we have an endless supply of treats. Even when we don't have any, the dog will still do the obedience thinking it will just get a larger check with a bonus later (because we are good for it). Here is the result of this system. She is trialing with no collars, no treats or reward of any type and a field filled with distractions and people. czcams.com/video/kE1cS07gbo8/video.html

Now speaking seriously I don't think the video shows a docile dog, it shows a dog that's a recipe for trouble if you're not willing to put the time and effort that these owners put into raising her.
