As a black woman this hits so close to home because often we aren’t allowed to hold people accountable and remark about the hurt and injustice people put us through. We are expected to simply forgive the action and it isn’t until, someone of more privilege speaks up that our treatment from a person is acknowledged and validated.

I am a white woman but I can relate to Monique when she describes how her family was on tv saying one thing but to Monique she knew it was all part of their way of portraying themselves. My mom is a narcissist (according to my psychiatrist, my mom would never go to therapy herself) and my dad and sister are her puppets. I truly feel like my life is the movie Coraline, from the outside people think my family are normal good people but they don’t see the button eye side that actually exists. It’s very traumatic to pass through life feeling unbelieved and like everyone thinks you are the “crazy” one.

All of the above is done in order to make whomever they're targeting live up to being the crazy person that they're mentally molding them to be. The psychology of such minds age in ways that reflect their intentions. Unfortunately all children do not know how to deal with such "adults". I used to love Oprah up until about 15 or so years ago. I was a single mom serving at Olive Garden when her show aired and she basically talked about how she did not tip her servers much because they didn’t deserve it or whatever, I don’t remember the exact details on that episode all I know is that it not only reflected in my tips but all my coworkers and many other servers in the nation. Our tips went drastically down and I eventually had to find another job that paid better, when I used to make really good money serving. It was literally insane the damage she did to servers everywhere! She was such an icon that people really listened to and it damaged the industry for waiters and waitresses everywhere for awhile.

Ya, I know exactly what you mean!! People may not believe you or what you are saying about being a server and how a tv trope affected your life, but I also have a couple of stories to relate. (I also work in a tipping industry) When I was in high school, I was fighting a lot with my mother. I have always been a good kid and very kind to people. Maybe a little too quiet, but if people knew how my mother treated me, they would see why I didn't talk, out of fear I would be punished for a perceived wrong. So, one night in the middle of winter, I ran away, but I forgot my coat. I remember I laid outside on the cold concrete behind some building for hours. I saw a few days later on Oprah that my mom was watching, Oprah said when your kids act up, you have to lock them in their room until they calm down. And, that is what I found her doing. I was so angry that she would not treat me like a kind, loving person that I was banging on the door to let me out and screaming and crying. Is that really how you treat a child, Oprah? Another time several years later, my mom was watching Oprah and Oprah said, don't wait to hug your children, hug them all the time. Then here is my mom, who never felt anything for me and called me a liar and wanting attention and her husband a dumb son-of-bitch, hugging me on cue. That was even worse. You can't fake affection. So, ya, this bitch Oprah has power. A lot of power. People are having houses built for them that they can't afford the taxes to keep. People have known that for a lot of years and they still support her and suck on her left titty.
