  • #TyraBanks has absolutely ruined the modeling industry. Along with #AmericasNextTopModel they put together a production that was designed to damage it's contestants. All they truly cared about was getting good TV and now these models have to live with their trauma. So let's get into it.

This was about creating problems where none existed, and then marketing the fallout to unsuspecting audiences as "real" and "raw" issues.

As a black woman, watching her reinforced so many negative connotations that are placed on the black/ African American community was traumatizing. Watching it made me feel ashamed of my skin, features, and shy away from confidence. Especially at a time where European-esque features were always promoted. Like she picked on women who looked like members of her own family! The self hate is evident. It was sick. So sick!
Body shaming so many women, for what??? What ever happened to “be the change you wish to see”?? Thank you for covering this!

I’m sorry but is it not obvious??? I’m going to take a wild guess here and assume she’s triggered because of our inherently racist white Eurocentric beauty standards that black women have to fight against every day. (Even though we’ve stolen so much from black culture and give zero credit) and then here’s Tyra being incredibly toxic, who’s obviously internalized some of this, abusing women and basically denouncing other’s culture. Like the OP’s said, reinforcing so many negative connotations already in place. I mean just the segment alone she aired of that man, who spent the entire time grossly slandering himself for being black, made me sick. Black Americans have to face difficulty we never will. So please, do not play therapist with a woman of color expressing her truth.

She clearly was told all the same things and then just projected it onto the other girls. I don’t doubt the modeling world itself is this toxic and that they body shame constantly but it’s also sad to me that it is racist too 🤦🏻‍♀️

It's crazy how growing up I always had a little gap between my front teeth and things like this once I got older made me really self conscious about something that actually made me unique. I ended wearing top braces for a year to close it in high school and then a year or two later models are sporting the gap.....unreal

They really wanted Lisa to talk about her trauma and held $700 over her head like that? They felt her reliving her trauma on tv in front of thousands, was worth $700 for her? My god.

They knew how skinny the woman was before bringing her on yet they proceeded to cast her just to embarrass her and make some weird eating disorder statement which is just uncomfortable. The girl was beautiful and realistically had a great body for high fashion :(
