1967 Camaro - How to Install a Tachometer on the Column Shifter

- This Camaro was born an automatic and will probably always be an automatic. That being said, just because you don't need to know your RPM doesn't mean it can't be useful. In this case, using the tachometer to confirm RPM for engine break in and while tuning is critical. Watch as we install an Equus Pro Tach in a unique column location.

Outstanding Utilization of Existing Hardware...The rear seat-belt bolt holes with bolts reversed can double as dynamite dual exhaust hangers on the Nova/Camaro platform.
I've heard of others using those holes for hangers, which is a great idea! Drilling new homes in this antique cars is always such a shame. Thanks for watching!
this helped me alot, I'm in the exact same boat as you are. thanks
+PeaceTree024 Glad you found it helpful!
i’ll be doing this in my chevelle thank u
I wish you had cranked your engine to show it working. I have a 1978 Camaro, and will be putting a Tach in it as well. Thank you for the video!!!
+Scott C Hah, didn't notice that I didn't show it working. It's hooked up to the Holley Sniper EFI system now and still works well. The red light in swapped in is flickering actually. I'll have to re-solder the LED at some point. Still a nice gauge and I have no regrets on the mounting position.
Turbo Camaro I like that tach. I like the way it is mounted. Very cool!
+Scott C thanks!
Nice tach, I have the same one in my 64 GMC.
+Military Chevy Cool, I was planning to open it up tomorrow and see if the bulbs can be swapped. Any idea?
Turbo Camaro Not sure. lol But if it can that would be neat!
+Military Chevy Ok, I'll let you know as I plan to pull them and put in either red or blue ones.
Turbo Camaro Cool! Look forward to a video! lol
Hypothetically, could you install a tachometer onto a column shift car that still has column shift? Would you have to modify the column to make room for it with the gear shifter and I guess the turn signal column/whatever else (talking out of my ass here).
Sure, you could install a tach anywhere on the column you want. I just made the video to show a unique way of taking advantage of the shifter mount point onna column to floor shift conversion. You could use a hose clamp or similar to mount it on the column at the top center or even below the turn signal or shift lever.
WHY DO MY GAUGE NOVES UP REAL SLOW WHEN I REV IT UP IN PARK I THINK MY PICK COIL IN THE DISTRIBUTOR IS BAD OR MY IGNITION CONTROL MODULE I GOT 1990 BLAZER 5.7
I would consider using a multimeter to measure the tach voltage line to your tachometer first. If the voltage in the line is accurate, then it's just your tach guage. Gushes are easily replaceable. Lots of online tutorials and videos to do the above.
Hey what type the gauge tachometer?
Hey, it's a Equus Pro 6088 3-⅜" Mechanical tach. I bought it from Canadian Tire on sale. It has a white light by default but they can be changed with some effort. I've had it installed for about a year and it's still working perfectly.
Turbo Camaro thank you so much 😚
