    I own an l4 and I totally agree, it's an excellent bike. I couldn't stand the pressure and bought a 1250 gs adv. Luckily i didn't sell my africa twin. After 10 thousand km of experience, I sold the GS and continue with Africa twin. For my use Africa is better than gs 🙋🏻‍♂️

    I have this exact bike in 2020 fashion, now with 21000 km. It has been a dream from new to now. Not sure if by 2022 Honda resolved the magnesium weld flake in gas tank issue, taking out fuel pump, or not? Guglatech Mazinga kit resolved mine, and is a complete solution. My biggest surprise on this bike was ES (electronic suspension). I'm a dirt bike and mountain sled rider, and love competent suspension. With a flick of a button/screen input, will change the ride completely. Soft and compliant for offroad and dirt, stuff for braking on tarmac. Change for multi- week gear/panniers needs, or adding a pillion, again by a finger input. Not wrenches, counting turns on spring, or compression/damping setup with screwdrivers at every change of weight. Mere seconds by a finger input. Nice!!!!! Keep working on DCT understanding and muscle memory of buttons/options. You will love this bike much more than a standard, for this style of bike. Two of my buds have these also, and are former Baja racers. Trail braking is the key, and over riding Auto shifts with manual buttons when in need. I could go on for days, lol, but would buy this bike again in this fashion, a day after, if mine was stolen. 6'2" 215 pounds, rode most of my life.

    *Good video and pretty much spot on!*
    I own a '21 Gold Wing DCT and also a '22 Africa Twin AS/ES DCT, and have been riding for 45 years, both dual sport and street. So I've been around the block or in a ditch my fair share of times, on all kinds of bikes. A couple of points if I may:
    (1) Agreed. Whiskey throttle on DCT is a thing. After a couple of times, you become very conscious of that possibility and you learn to keep a light throttle hand. In my opinion, the DCT pros far outweigh the few cons. It just takes some experience and learning a new skill set. Is DCT good for new riders? Maybe on some bikes, but not the AT.
    (2) I've never had an issue with CarPlay on either bike. The trick is either *_to CarPlay_* or *_not to CarPlay._* That is, either use it 100% or don't use it at all. Between bikes, phones, and headsets it's far too easy to have many overlapping Bluetooth connections. This can be confusing and even dangerous when trying to manage it while going down the highway. So like you, I turn my *_iPhone Bluetooth OFF_* when on either bike. Connect it only with a MiFi cable, placing the iPhone into a tank bag on the AT. So the ONLY connections are Bluetooth headset to bike and then USB cable bike to iPhone.

    Hey thanks for the video. I have the same bike. I had problems with "whiskey throttle" when I first started but for me I realized it was due to my gloves being too thick, more so than technical situations. Once I wore thinner gloves the problem went away. I like what you did using the favorites button for traction control. Great Idea, I'd like to do the same but need to get the book out again and figure out how to do it. lol. This bike is not only good for offroad but performs really well as a touring bike, holds a ton of luggage when you have panniers, and the cruise makes long highway rides a breeze. The seat is definitely too hard from stock but you can get aftermarket options that are more comfortable.

    You say max traction control is all blue but the power chart is full power when it’s grey? Isn’t this opposites? I tried this bike and couldn’t understand these dials - can you confirm? Blue is full or least? If least, your traction control was shown as ‘least/ all blue’. Thanks

    Dude thank you for the great review! This bike is impossible to find here in the east cost.. I just put in a refundable deposit to secure one coming in later this month. I was looking at this and an Indian Chief Dark Horse. I know 2 different categories of Bikes.. I’m not doing much or any off reading for now. I feel like the AT ES is a better bike in terms of safety, taller, larger, more visible to others and a commanding view of the road..

    10:40 the little LCD screen does show what gear you are in if you are using manual mode for off-road. I never use D, S1, S2, or S3 while off-roading. But yeah it would be nice to be able to see the gear indicator on “auto” mode also. I agree with everything else you said about it, it’s an amazing bike and I don’t see myself replacing it with anything else but the next iteration of it, if it’s significantly better of course.

    • @adventureundone
      @adventureundone  Před rokem +1

      good call, forgot about that. I jujitsu about never put mine in manual, I just shift as needed in auto.

    • @Honda_Africa_Twin
      @Honda_Africa_Twin Před rokem

      @@adventureundone That proves again how versatile the DCT system is. You never use manual, I almost never use automatic modes as I am intoxicated by the sound of rev-matching and auto-blips on the paddle shifters. I am seriously considering getting the DCT foot shifter as it’s way less expensive in Europe. Here the ask price is around 350$.
      But yeah, some things could be improved. The little clutch or having the option to put in Neutral while moving would be a nice addition. I would also love, but this is is a question for all manufacturers - Give us the damn option of factory stiffer springs, not everyone weights the average 70-80kg (155-177lbs) and we mostly ride with all the luggage and more (40kg plus). Cheers.

    How are regular and yearly maintenance costs on this thing and also how's reliability in comparison to other Hondas? What I'm really asking is, is this bike a money pit like all the other big liter adventure bikes or is it like a typical Honda?! I'm asking because I'm thinking of upgrading to Africa Twin, coming from a Transalp owner, I've owned a Transalp for years now and that thing barely costs me anything, I think I make around 10,000 kilometers a year and I spend less than $400 A YEAR on maintenance, tires, etc... - plus, I've NEVER had to fix anything for years now and even if I do, it's usually very cheap to replace because it's a Honda... So... Is Africa Twin the same or is it a money pit scam?!

    P bars are indicating power reduction, so more bars are less throttle response. Logical when you think about it, its in the handbook, but buried in the wall of text
