  • This is a project requested by my good friends, the administrators of Onepocket.org.
    They provided to me a series of unique One Pocket shots and asked me to produce a video of these shot with a short explanation of each.
    If you have not visited this site and enjoy the game please take a moment and check it out. You can become a member but it isn't necessary if all you wish to do is lurk.

    At 9:30, he is a bad Boy..... I"m teaching my son one pocket and as for pocket billiards, one pocket is the most interesting game, though I grew up playing snooker with old farmers for the cost of the game. 30 cents. It killed em' to pull that money out of their pockets, after jingling it for the last 5 shots. I love golf on a snooker table too. Always Friday night money in the pocket. Thanks for your effort, a great find.

      Thank you Bob. I'm working on putting together a one hour video of unique One Pocket shots. Many shots are different from what you see are seeing here. Several of these you tube shots by the way, will be coming down soon. Don't worry, I will give everyone a heads up when the video is ready for distribution.

    In the first part of the video on the alternate break part. The right side of the rack wasn't touching, you can see on the break. when the cue ball made contact with the 6ball. If the 6ball was frozen to the 13 ball and 3 ball they wouldn't have reacted like that. Those balls would have tracked correctly... and leaked over the opponents pocket. Only thing that was frozen on the side was the 1ball to the 14ball as you can clearly see it reacts correctly. Great video though thanks for sharing.

      @onepocketagameofcontrolled3646  Před 5 lety +2

      Sorry Keith, Even though this video is about a year and a half old i"m certain all the balls were frozen to one another. The balls on this table have always racked beautifully and tight. I've never had a problem racking on this table.
      Still, I do appreciate your time in viewing my videos and your input is valuable to me.

    Some great shots and one pocket advise here...the only thing I would recommend since an instructional video series....include the spin and speed you're hitting it. That would help tremendously

    • @onepocketagameofcontrolled3646
      @onepocketagameofcontrolled3646  Před 6 lety +1

      Hey Scotty, I must disagree with you here. I don't think my sharing which spins and speeds will help with the shots you don't quite understand. That would be like giving you the questions and answers to a test all at the same time. How are you expected to learn the nuances of these shots if you don't take them to a table, set them up, and practice them? In this way you will be forced to learn how they work and be better off for the experience. Just my opinion for what it's "Wirth" Still, I thank you for your suggestion.

    • @scottdad
      @scottdad Před 6 lety +2

      Well i guess it just depends on your intent with these videos are you trying to teach people how to play better, or trying to just show off and maybe encourage someone to learn them on their own. Why not speed up the process of learning by offering your knowledge on shots like these? Yes, I agree that these shots should be practiced, and really there's no way you're going to make them without practicing them....but why not provide as much help to those trying to learn as you can from just a love for the game and others interested in learning more about it? just my opinion though.

    • @onepocketagameofcontrolled3646
      @onepocketagameofcontrolled3646  Před 6 lety +1

      Scotty, so I ask you, what do you think my motivation is in freely sharing these videos with you and others? "Why not provide as much help to those trying to learn"? Because you will learn far more by the art of self discovery then you will by my explaining the shot in detail. Watch the shot develop. You should be able to figure out the spins and speeds simply by watching how the balls move around the table. Don't you like puzzles?

    @ 6:43, I saw another shot. While not a high % to make, it does more to the right pocket players advantage. Banking the 14 ball towards the right pocket, the que ball will carom off, hitting both the 5 and the 15. The result will be the 10, 8 & 14 or 12 in better position

    • @onepocketagameofcontrolled3646
      @onepocketagameofcontrolled3646  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you Logan for offering your alternative shot. Though it is true that several balls will be sent in the direction of the shooter's pocket, controlling the cue ball is very suspect. Your shot has considerable risk of scratching off the 5 and 15. When weighing whether to choose aggressive shots which carry even a moderate risk of surrendering open shots to your opponent it is best to know to a high degree what outcome to expect. Though the shot shown send fewer balls towards the shooter's pocket the shot is far easier to execute and accomplishes all that is necessary. Remember, it only take eight balls to win the game!

    Tom, Thanks for the video Re 19:28 the two balls on the spot, make the front ball shot.
    I am having trouble figuring out how full to hit the head ball. Slightly left of center seems to work fairly well if I draw CB back towards the left corner area. I keep getting a double kiss hitting it too full if I try to duplicate your straight back draw. Also what english are you using. A little left? A lott of left. Tips?

    • @onepocketagameofcontrolled3646
      @onepocketagameofcontrolled3646  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi C2, The easiest way to explain how this shot should be played is by describing the set up. Place the centers of the cue ball and head ball on line with the first diamond on the head rail and try to draw the cue ball back to the same position. No english! Firm, smooth, and relaxed stroke. If you encounter a double kiss on the two object balls you hit too full on the head ball. the cue ball will return more towards the head plate. My shot was more or less like that but I did beat t he double kiss. If the cue ball runs towards the side pocket you hit too thin and the object ball will run towards the side cushion. Keep working at it. Sounds like you're almost there.

  • @724riff
    @724riff Před 6 lety +2

    at about 2.10 you made the combo pocketing the 15 instead of playing the cueball off the rail and pocketing the 15 then siding to the other long rail for more points instead of leaving the cue stuck in the pack ............ i dont know if that was doable from this angle but it looked like it had the promise for more points

      Ah! I see what's going on here Riff. You are confused as to who has which pocket. On this shot my pocket was the one to the right as you were viewing the table. The goal being to clear my opponent's pocket, send balls in the direction of my own, and stick the cue ball in the catcher's mitt and setting a difficult trap for him to escape from. Now had the left hand pocket been mine your idea would have been an excellent choice of shot. I hope this helps and thank you for being a part of my You Tube channel. Please continue to make inquiries. It's all good.

    Hi i wanted to ask and i am not a 1 pocket player because aggresion is to hard to control lol ,,,,,,,, but on that combo was it easier to play the 15 off the rail with the cue and end up on the long rail on the right side of the table maybe sliding under the 2 6 or 8 for more points ,. its hard to tell from this angle but if it was possible would you call that a better shot ,,,,,, idk plus it would keep the first ball you struck from going towards an oppenst pocket . it may have been a 6 point shot ..

    I've read the 1-pocket rules more than once, and read what Wikipedia has to say about 1-pocket.
    While watching 1-pocket games on You Tube, I find myself at a loss as to why players spot balls
    during a game of 1-pocket. Announcers never explain why a ball is being spotted.
    Does the object ball need to hit a cushion during a shot?
    Does the cue ball need to hit a cushion during the shot?
    Is it required that the cue ball strike another ball during a shot?

    • @onepocketagameofcontrolled3646
      @onepocketagameofcontrolled3646  Před 4 lety +1

      The standard rules of pool apply. The cue ball must hit an object ball and then a ball, any ball including the cue ball must then strike a cushion. The sequence must be ball then cushion. The cue ball can strike several rails before the hit on the object ball but then the sequence begins. Should a foul occur the offending player must then pay a one ball penalty and spot a ball. If that player has no ball to spot he then owes a ball and must pay it at the end of the first inning in which he legally pockets a ball into his pocket. A ball which falls into any of the four non scoring pockets gets spotted at the conclusion of the inning. No foul there.

      Interesting ...we don't want to sell the farm with a high risk shot/move yet Tom stresses to be more aggressive/offensive against a much stronger player or they will destroy you. You cannot beat a stronger runout player being conservative.
