    Thanks for testing and sharing your results.
    I've never tested as you have but I've read and you commented that your 5/8" hose is expanding.
    When your hose does this while wrapped on the reel it is constricting itself.
    I've learned that you need to remove all of the hose from the reel before use for maximum performance and to extend the life of the hose and the reel.
    Allowing all of the hose to expand unrestricted may give you different results.
    If you do test it in this way please let us know your findings.
    Again thanks for the info.

    I think you should have used the old gun for both tests for a more accurate reading considering the new gun only gave you a 1 gallon difference. Not sure if you have to break the gun in or whatever, but in general whenever your running tests; only change one aspect during the the tests.

  • @Scott.Farkus

    Increasing hose diameter won't increase throw distance, since it decreases the velocity of the chemical. To increase velocity, and thereby throw distance you can either increase flow from the pump or decrease hose diameter. It's Bernoulli's principle at work.

    • @housewashing5693
      @housewashing5693  Před rokem +2

      I understand what you're getting at. However, nozzle at the end of the gun is what increases the velocity in this case. Feeding the nozzle with more volume and pressure will increase the throw. In this case, only the volume would increase. The pressure stays the same if the nozzle stays the same. There is a sweet spot (orifice size) for each configuration. Simply reducing the nozzle doesn't always mean the throw will be further. If you take into consideration the laminar flow and turbulence, increasing the diameter will have a useful effect if the optimal orifice is chosen. But the problem lies in the lack of some of our guns fixed nozzles. For instance my wash down gun is rated for 16gpm. My pump is say 10 gpm at the gun. This really means the nozzle is too big for optimal performance. We really need several sizes of wash down guns to fiddle with.

    • @Scott.Farkus
      @Scott.Farkus Před rokem +1

      @@housewashing5693 The thing is; when you run chem through the smaller line it moves faster, then when it goes through the nozzle it goes even faster, so you gain some throw distance. With the AR45 you're not hurting for throw distance anyway.

  • @cedarclean-cedarroofcleani8148

    Your getting some restriction sending chems/water thru your hose reel. Only use your hose reels for storage. Use two sections of 5/8 diameter hose each 100’ long and connect them together when you need a full 200’. Some times you may only need 100’, then just pull this off the reel, connect to your pump. Use simple gardenhose fittings for everything. This gives you more flow and is very simple. I do this with all my hose reels. In fact my water supply flexilla hose I have 3 sections of 75’ long and only pull off the reel what I need for the job. It also avoids SH going thru all the internals of your hose reels making a lot less servicing.

    I am not sure which hose is best either. I had a the same dilemma, but in revers with a air diaphragm roof pump. I downsized after blowing a line and wasn't sure if losing a little flow was a good idea but I figured that roof cleaning always meant dragging the 5/8" hose up ladders so I was better off with a lower weight.

    Hi Kenny,
    Thanks for this video, you have just saved me some money. I was going to switch from 1/2" to 5/8" to gain more distance. The gun swivels are a joke, they say 1/2" but they have a 3/8" bore. I found a high flow swivel and that has a bore of about 7/16". To be honest, I really didn't notice a difference. It's a strange business.

    The 5/8 hose expansion is a great reason your whip lines should be 3/4 to 1". It really helps your pumps.
    Running 3/4 whip, 3/4 hose manifold to 25ft of 3/4 high pressure off the reel first will improve everything. Better flow, and less trigger shock.
    Think with the pumps under 150psi the 5/8 makes a huge difference. My booster with 1/2 hose sucked.

    I used to use 150' of 5/8 clear poly braided hose, it's very stiff why I didn't like it at first. Then installed Flextec AG 5/8 hose and it not only expanded outward it also kinked alot as well. Haven't tried Kuritec, but the poly braided hose is the clearly the winner without expansion loss and hardly any kinking. Distance was obviously better with the Poly before I installed the Flextec and will be going back to Poly. Thanks for the videos appreciate that!

    I’m thinking if your the red hose expands it might last longer than the blue hose. You’re saving on chemical if you’re putting out less gallons per minute timer thing, I don’t know I am.
    Most important change your feed line hose to the same size that’s going to be key 🔑 make sure your fed hose is same size our bigger !!!!
    5/8 - 1 inch Line make sure you have 3/4 manifold in your real, not half inch , also make sure the hose is stretched off the rail all the way . Let’s is no what happened when you do the next test and if your reel is 1/2 or 3/4 without using reducers

    While I will agree with you don't save much time in a wall and the hose my link easier. I would like to point out that the volume is much better especially if you use it for a roof rinse.
    Going from 7 gallons a minute to 9-1/2 gpm is over a twenty percent gain. So for rinsing a roof. Or a real long drive way is a big deal. Same goes for soaking a air ton of plants... I ordered a 5/8 for the new rig I'm building (different brand). It is heavy but it seems to be a little smoother on the out side and not quite as flexible as the one you had. Waiting for the electric reel to arrive then I can test it out. I'm WAY to lazy to hand crank this in... hopefully the smoother outside will make dragging it around a little easier.
