- Video 07 in the Beginner Build Bicycle Frame Series. If you've ever wondered how to build a bicycle this is the place.
I cut the tube form that I will use to bend my chain stays. I also weld the pivoting V blocks that will push the tube into the form. A little machining / milling in this one. Fun!

Wow I just used 3 caster wheels for mine. And a hydraulic bottle jack. Lol this is like the ritzy poverty bender!
He has better equipment than some firms I've worked for + he knows how to use them too.
Really? I'm a little disturbed by that. LOL ;)
Love your videos!
Congratulations, very good
Hey Man,
Your production work is excellent…love the way you work.
I'm at the stay bending stage on my first build and I appreciate the help
Thanks aspenbanjo! What kind of frame you building? Good luck and be safe :)
Nice work and inspiring stuf.
Really nice, you should spray some pb blaster Teflon lube for make the tube slicers more frictionless while you bend the chainstay.👌
carl torrico Nice. I like this idea.
dude, very impressed with your channel.
+jason fifi Thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching!
absolutely. i like the attention to detail, and that rather than editing out mistakes or dead-end paths, you keep them in the video.
I like how you make most the stuff yourself the bender the bike jig the bikes etc.
+Ethan Schulz I can't help myself, its too much fun.
Am looking at this to figure out how to build a custom computer case. Thanks for great vid!
+Heath Miller Glad it was helpful!
Very Very Cool!! nice job!
Fiddlekrazy Steve Thanks, and thanks for watching!
Okay, just starting out, I'm seeing craft dedication and modeling devotion - and then you can't identify a 2x4 - the world is upside down in Machine-shop-land!
intentare hacer uno igual saludos desde mexico
First time coming across the channel, instantly hit subscribe. Will watch each video as the content seems great.
+Dinxsy Thanks for dropping in! I have to admit, my earlier videos kind of suck ;) But hang in there, they get better later as I learned more about frame building and video editing!
Pithy Bikes I watched up to (Bicycle frame build 17 - frame jig pt 09) before needing sleep, thoroughly enjoyed them. Have you made your own wheel truing stand? I'd love to make one.
Your videos are always so engaging :),
The subject for your clips are on point :),
This vid of yours had me glued to the screen:),
What camera do you use to make your episodes?,
What mike do use?
subbed within the first 30 seconds
Thanks! :D
A block of wood to bend the tubing bo hoo. I bend it like a blacksmith or a barbarian. Just hand strength or technique and eye balling. Then tack then double check then weld. Shocked as hell i am. As i managed to build a hole scratch built motorized bike that way. Turned out nuts it does not seat 2 just the rider. It still needs a couple ajustments
good shit
:D
ufff que facil
Watching you at 1:53 was slightly terrifying. Oh well, Stumpy is a cool nickname.
You're a freakin genius.
Thank you for all your helpful videos.
Do you do your own editing?
+freshsk8ter Yes I do! Thanks for watching!
goood👍👍👍✌👏
+Ali Afreet Thanks for watching :)
I'd just use a radial edge tube form bender mark the bends and manualy bend it. cost $90 available at hardware stores lowes... mccoys... etc. good job w ur shop though
+nevermorefuzzy For the most part I used materials and tools I already had so sort of kind of didn't cost me any extra ;)
how to produce pipe with different outer diameter along its lenght ?
Is it possible to bend oval tube in a similar way?
This looks like a really cool channel but I find it hard to follow.
Before watching a whole video I'd like to know what am I going to learn. It takes some time to pick it up from the beginning and if I scroll down the time bar I'm not sure what am I looking at at any given moment.
I think it should be hard to resolve this though. The videos are pretty good and detailed and stand on their own. However adding subtitles so the viewer can pick up right away at any time what is going on will take these videos to the next level!
Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. It's funny because the more I learn about frame building the less of a beginner I become. And then I start to assume folks watching know what's going on. I'll try to explain things more. Thanks!
link to next video - please put in annotation at end .its a clickable link to the vids - cool videos man
cool video man whats the router milling machine called ?
+t It's a siege x2d from littlemachineshop.com
Man i watched all that and didnt see it in action, come on man, you did good job but didnt give us the treat of seeing it work.
+Brian B Sorry about that man. Thanks for your feedback/comment, I'll put a link at the end of this video to the actual bending video. If you still want to see it bend you can watch it here: czcams.com/video/iTVpiIOuK04/video.html
Man! No Shit!
Wish I have all those tools.
+xierxu Bit by bit.. they add up :) Most of my tools are the cheapest ones I could find with a few exceptions.
Hi, nice project, I wanted to ask you what brand & model of mill machine are you using and how good is it?
Hi, it's a Sieg x2d and a Sieg C3. If you do a search for mini lathe or minimill these machines most commonly come up.
+Pithy Bikes perfect. the bandsaw looks great, good size, what brand & model is? Thank you
+Pedro Kim Chicago Electric Power Tools Portable Variable Speed Band Saw. I got it off Amazon. It was the cheapest one I could find lol.
I'm only on video 7 and I plan to watch all your videos. You have mad skills on the CAD software and freehand technical drawing and welding as well - so Please do me a favor though and go to the OSHA.Gov site and type the word "bandsaw" into their accident reports search page. You will find you get over 400 incident reports. There are descriptions of exactly how each one occurred but probably you will be able to tell just by the title of each incident that this is a risky tool. Obviously you work very safely everywhere else but with that much blade showing and no guard on your bandsaw its the only thing you do that makes me go "Yikes!" Usually they say to lower the guard so that only enough blade is accessible to clear the work piece. I hope I'm not a safety nerd.. people hate them.
I totally agree with you that it is a dangerous tool! Thanks for the warnings :) I can say thought that this specific band saw is maybe one of the less dangerous ones out there. Mainly due to its speed (it doesn't move the blade very fast). And the other reason is the blade I have installed on it. It's very similar to a hack saw blade. That said it will still cut your hand! Fortunately I have not had any accidents or even scrapes from this saw. So far most of the scrapes I get are from my bench grinder! And no you're not a safety nerd! It's just smart to use tools with safety always in mind. :)
I would love to see how department store bikes are built...
I'd love to see that too. I'm guessing theres lots of fixtures that go down assembly line. The tubes on dept store bikes are super low quality and heavy. welded seams and thick mild steel.
r u using EMT conduit tube for your frame?
+Kel-chan I'm using 4130 chromoly tubing. I got it at henryjames.com
Pithy Bikes
thx much
Hey Pithy Bikes, what kind of milling machine do you use? Thanks.
Just a Sieg mini mill. Bought it years ago at little machine shop online store. It’s tiny but can do a lot I’d not pushed too hard.
@@PithyBikes Thank you. Found your shop list on your website with link. Perfect.
is that a harbor freight mini mill? ?
+Diy type of guy It's basically the same mill, but I got mine at littlemachineshop.com
Выглядит классно!А где результат?Трубу изогнуть забыл или посчитал не нужным показать!
What model is your mill?
Pithy Bikes Thanks for the info.
All that and no bending..... and what's with the toothpick? did I miss something?
+azbikerider49 Sorry I didn't bend anything.
+Pithy Bikes Toothpick.. I think you're referring to the small rod in the vise? Check out this video on Tom's channel. czcams.com/video/igfqYZPdQ78/video.html
Useless ...
Besides the wood form, the efforts are a waste of time.
I bent my forks tubes on a piece of wood alone
+Bagheerabe I did learn a lot in the process though ;)
