Registrace 2. 11. 2014
Hi I'm Steve,
I started building my first bicycle frame in 2015 out of a small single car garage. I began looking into building a frame in 2013 when I took a TIG welding class and a machining class at the Crucible in Oakland CA. While these classes gave me a good background in both disciplines, they were not quite enough to cover all the stuff I needed to know in order to build my first frame. From there I ventured out and started a CZcams channel. I got a lot of help from the viewers of the Pithy Bikes Channel. Thank you all! What a journey! We finished our first frame in September 2016. I hope to make many more videos because I still have so much to learn.
Thanks for stopping by and I’ll see you in the videos!

Why you choose SD?
I'm Soooo Glad I viewed this video before I used a Slitting Saw with my Mill for the 1st time😅
Good to have you back...watching your vids here the philippines TC!
Hi! Glad to hear you back! Can't wait to watch some more content! And... when you showed the lid of the cistern I thought "Oh, a rain tank" 'cause I have one too to water my yard. See you
Name names bro. You can help others by saying what you feel. such as the authoritarian govt control during COVID fucked us, and the sick people living in these socialist states, crashing into the people around them and risking others lives are unacceptable. Also how did you pick SD?
I would also add/fabricate a stem with adjustable length to that new project
Good to have you back.
You're back! Welcome back sir. Glad to see you and yours are doing well. You along with Thrifty Frame Building have inspired me to build a dirt jumper frame. A dirty bottomless pit that can consume a human and starts with the letter C? How about my ex-girlfriend's ****?
Hi from France, best things for everythings
Saw steel is HSS intended for mild steel. Carbide saw can cut bicycle steel can cost 3~5x more. Eccentric is OK, high rpm is not. Bicycle steel usually harder than mild steel and cut like stainless steel. Test the work with a file first. If file slip more than removing metal, we need a carbide saw, otherwise we can proceed with HSS at low speed. Calculate the teeth speed from diameter and rpm. Such that the teeth move at a speed matching the speed of a file by hand. So we don’t burn the saw. Also feed the mill table slowly like 0.1~0.2mm per Revolution or less. Also take notice and remember metal chip flying off the saw as a form of feed back so we learn along the way. This experience is valuable for you next time. On the other hand, consider arc welding rod can be loosely chosen can end up with a hardness near or equal to HSS steel can ruin your HSS saw.
So great to see you are back to CZcams, keep going.
Glad to see you back! Good to see you living your dream (or something).
Awesome to see you back dude 😎😎
Finally heeeeee's baaaaack!!!!!
Congrats on the relocation. Being so close to Iowa now, you should make RAGBRAI happen some year.
Been checking in from time to time to see if i have missed a vid and here it is. Glad to see you back in the swing of things!
Yay, you're back! Looking forward to seeing more videos as I've watched all of your previous ones. I have learned a lot from watching them and I find them very relaxing. Cheers!
С возвращением, Друг! 🖖🏻
Welcome back! Always my favourite channel as you inspired me to start my own framebuilding journey (recently finished frame #11 and fork #6). I could go on all day about the theory behind trail and wheel flop but it's all worth much less than an actual experiment which is what you're doing which is super-awesome. Another thing it may affect besides the ride feel is shimmy so it might be interesting to try some high-ish speed descents with different settings as well as riding around the block.
Hey it’s good to see you again!
OMG Who is back!!! )))
congrats and welcome back 😊
Great to see you back! Your original series is the reason I started building by own bikes!
Suggestion: give the forks sliding (horizontal?) dropouts (like you’d get on a single-speed for adjusting chain tension) to get your adjustment. Forks with a built-in pivot at the point of max leverage would terrify me, no matter how tightly clamped.
That’s a really great idea. TY!
Where have u been ?? R u ok S Dakota I am also thinking with the family of doing same
I wasn’t uploading because work was so busy and I was distracted with all the stuff of the last 3 years. But now me and the family are doing really well. We love South Dakota. The kids love their school. They can walk to the park or friends house alone which is not something I’d dare let them do in CA. People here are nice and there is community here that care about each other.
Good Luck! Shame that you need to be discreet about the motives for leaving California, for fear of incurring consequences. This can't go on.
Welcome back Mr.Bikes.
Dude respect for having the balls to move halfway across the country to find a better life. Can’t wait to see more of your content ❤

Hi Steve, Good to see you back and looking forward to future videos. Workshop looks good. Regards Kevin
Hi Steve. Great to have you back. I am looking forward to seeing your bike steering experiments because this is a subject I have been reading up on recently. If you haven't already read it, I recommend you taking a look at David Jones paper called The Stability of the Bicycle, home.phys.ntnu.no/brukdef/undervisning/tfy4145/diverse/UnridableBicycle.pdf
I definitely will!
Great to see you back.... Second project is a fat bike for the winter yeah 😂
I was only thinking about your channel the other day when looking at the pile of bikes in my yard.
С возвращением!
Bonne chance on the new workshop! Here's to a fruitful shop experience in your future endeavors!
Welcome back! Will be very interesting to see the new bike project. Having recently refreshed my bikes with newer, slacker bikes I've noticed a lot of what you're talking about. Though I was just getting too old to ride no handed! My Dad has an old banana seat bike he modified into a chopper in the 60s with his Dad. Stretched the forks, adjusted the rake and head tube angle and it rides like a dream. Really interesting how well it rides. And you can also ride a wheelie for days on it for whatever reason. Feels like balancing a broomstick on your fingertip almost. The longer the broom the easier it is?
That makes a lot of sense!
Cool dude. Do you have heat in the garage?
I have a 220v electric that hangs from the ceiling. But when it’s 0 degrees outside it only helps a little.
...and I always thought, you'd be in Asia somewhere, hi hi. The reason for a slacker head angle is to get the wheel further in front of you, which helps in the most steep downhill spots to stay behind the bars. I think, the poor ladys´ bike is not the right base to test this on. In most other situations a short wheelbase is nice to have anyway. If you want to experience the other thing, called wheel flop, result of the amount the front of the bike goes down at a certain steering angle at a certain incline of the bike, you can simply push the bike by its saddle and try to steer it this way. If the handlebar flops into sharper steering, eventually going overboard under its momentum and ending up blocking the bike, this doesn't mean the bike is unrideable, but needs more rider input. This is a math problem and good results depend on the incline/speed you want to go through a curve with a certain radius and the tire diameter and cross section. Good luck! ;)
Glad you're back!
Glad you're back!
WELCOME BACK!
Woooow long time Steve!,, niceee
Good to see you back dude, you're in my neck of the woods now (sorta). :)
White crust on top of the water looks like legionaries, definitely stay away from it!
I really enjoy your content & I'm looking forward to more frequent videos!
Hi Steve, sounds like you've had a rough couple of years, i'm hoping your move works out well for you and your family., It's great to hear your soothing voice again and looking forward to some more vids, that bikes triple fork crown is amazing. P.s. Did you ever watch the TV series 'Russian Doll'? There's an incredible cistern in the second series.
I swear we live in a simulation. I just found my old water bottle with your sticker on it the other day, and thought about your bikes for the first time in a while.
No one better cross Steve, he's got a cistern to stack the bodies... 😂 Welcome back and congrats on the move!
Welcome back. Personally, as long as it isn't structurally compromised, I would keep the cistern. An extra water source can be really useful. Watering lawns and gardens. Emergency use for flushing toilets and such if service gets interrupted. A small filtration and reverse osmosis system and you can have drinking water.
Great to have you posting videos again Steve! Looks like you have improved on your workshop
Good to see you making videos again. Big move! Things are still weird from the.... events of a few years ago... different now. Best wishes.
