You can screw something like a (Pithy Bikes) ahead cap on top of the handle to keep it from sliding off the reamer square, also a nice touch though. ;-) Simple but great work as always. Cheers, Ben
Nice handle! When I made mine I found that 3/4 16 gauge square tube which I had around was a pretty good loose fit. So I welded that onto the handle (more of the same tube) and then tapped in a couple of shims at the sides (probably 1mm sheet metal). Worked out pretty good and I just leave the handle attached to the reamer permanently.
Don't let any machinist see you tack weld a reamer, they might ream you for it. :) This handle design is ancient, btw. I think you can find it even in the Modern Mechanix website in one of the magazines.
haha oh yea its no secret this channel is not for machinists! :) All joking aside, I'm surprised how often you guys let me off the hook with this stuff!
Steve, the OCD in me is surprised you didn't countersink the socket cap screws. I thought for sure you would! :) Great job as always, really happy to see you producing content again, definitely a favorite. :)
If I could add a comment, any person who delves into making their own tools, is Not going to put a dollar amount on it in comparison to a hardware store tool in which they were mass produced, but more so the fact that he builds this reamer handle/holder to how he wants to and it allows him the use exactly how he wants to use it. Well done Pithy!
@@JW-qd4ig Oh wow. Making a low quality tool that doesn't even hold the tap straight out of $20 materials on machines that cost several thousand bucks instead of buying an industrial grade tool for $8. Well done Pithy! Nice comment J W.

Hi, I would like to make two holes in the seat tube of my bicycle to put a water bottle holder, perhaps using allen bolts + barrel nuts. This is of chromoly 4130, would it be feasible without it cracking in the future? Help pleaseee...
I highly recommend using bottle bosses made for that purpose. Its the best way to retain the tubes strength. Paragon Machine Works makes them. www.paragonmachineworks.com/catalog/product/view/id/3580/s/water-bottle-boss-1-4-hole-choose-material/ I don't know if they'll ship anywhere though. If not you'll need to find it locally or have a machinist turn you some in 4130. Good luck!
I was just thinking about making a tap handle so I guess it's serendipity you released this video.

omg, I love your plywood wall organizer thinger. I'm going to have to make something like that
Thanks Steve, another quality video. Stay safe my friend.

Your work quality and care impressed me deeply, but I would rethink the "Princess Lillifee" color ;-).

Thanks for .stl models. I'll try to adapt them to my own project. I will try to use wood clamp.

Haha so true!

Did you use pla filament? PLA 3D printed objects will deform when there is consistent pressure.
Yes. We’ll see how this holds up. Thanks for warning. 👍
I haven't watched your videos in a while..it appears that you have relocated to a different shop. Is that right?
Yes! More space now!
