I think he uses assumptions very wildly. I'm not convinced of several of these premises. For example how does his identification of antioxidants with oxygen deprevation square with the benefits of intravenous sodium ascorbate. And what about Ascorbate: he didn't mention what piece of the clock that might be. And what about the clock: do we know that vitamin c is a kind of clock, or could it be like a magazine cover, or a bullet proof vest? He didn't anchor those assumptions.

The best vitamin C supplement should come from natural sources, such as Camu Camu berries, acerola cherries, Strawberries, etc.. There are companies that now provide the freeze dried form of fruits like camu camu and acerola cherry in powdered forms. These are readily absorbed and utilized by the body because of the presence of other nutrients. I now look for vitamin C that says FROM, and list the source/s, which should be something from nature.

Thank you Dr Ekberg. I absolutely love your videos. Yes I agree with what you say regarding having whole foods from natural sources as the best source of whole nutrients. Please however do for us a video to clarify the mechanism of how high doses of ascorbic acid given by iv shows beneficial results for Cancer, severe burns, viral infections, etc.
Also if you could clarify for me further the concept of antioxidants as my understanding of antioxidants is that it binds with and neutralises the by products of oxidation and not absorbs oxygen to stop energy production.
Thank you for enlightening me on the above confusing issues.

I honestly don't see how anyone middle class and lower can NOT need to supplement in the USA. It's absolutely shocking how little nutrients on in most of our food. Berries are usually prohibitively expensive for the working class, unless you have the space to grow them your self and that's only seasonal. Most people would agree winter is the time you need the most vitamin C, so I don't see how you could likely avoid supplements.

Hi Dr Stein, great video, and the clock metaphor helped sink it in really well.
When u said beware of anything that has been fractioned does that include extracts which have not been standardised ?
Eg would a 10:1 extract of something like Rhodiola or ashwagandah still have its ratios of the working components largely in order (assuming it was "best practice" extracting) or would even the best extraction techniques ruin most of the vitamin and co factor clocks ?

I'm sorry that the "content" here is in Swedish, but a friend of mine wrote this, and I would like Your comment on it: Vitamin C skapar nĂ€r doserna Ă€r tillrĂ€ckligt höga, en molekyl som var helt okĂ€nd för mig, nĂ€mligen AQP.

It was never mentioned that the foods listed must be eaten raw since cooking destroys vit. C. Brassica family veggies a potent goiter food and best to be cooked for bewt absorption. Acerola cherries may not be available raw, but as a powder is widely available. Though, I am not sure if spray dried vs freeze dried makes a difference. If omeone can comment on it, that would be great.

What about the sodium, calcium or magnesium ascorbate forms of C? And doesn't Standard Process require a "prescription" from a health care provider...MD, DC, etc.?

I'll tell you what, I used a lot of fancy vitamin C in my life but ascorbic acid was beyond powerful and the first thing it attacked was my cravings, next it went for my lower tummy and reduced it, then it obliterated my inflammation that would send me to sleep after a meal...
Listen, ascorbic acid is powerful. Granted, please take other vitamins...but don't be decieved it is extremely powerful. It even stopped my irregular heartbeat that would happen early mornings...
I know because I took it.

    Great info like always!
So regarding whole foods supplements. My health practitioner back home found that there is a mild inflammation in my stomach so she recommended to get some L-Glutamine. Since we don't have Standard Process here I found "Innate Response". These are the ingredients in this particular supplement:
    L-Glutamine ........5000mg
    arabinogalactan... 400mg
Aloe Vera Gel extract... Marschmallow root powder (althaea officinalis) ...200mg
    MSM (Methylulfonylmethane) ... 200mg
Slippery Elm Bark Powder (Ulmus Rubra) ..200mg
    Sustamine - L-Alanyl-L-Glutamine ...200mg
Would this be a good product, you think? Thank you.

To call oxygen a nutrient is quite a stretch.

    • @zogzog1063
      @zogzog1063 Pƙed 4 lety +4

I disagree. It depends on your definition of nutrient. A nutrient is typically in a solid form. It can also be liquid. But why not as a gas? Does the fact that it enters the system as gas (via the nose or mouth) change its status? Does the fact it goes into the lungs rather than the stomach make it a non-nutrient. Actually all elements can exist in all three states. I suppose you could say oxygen is a 'special case' or even an 'only case'. But hey - ok it is a special case, so what?
Dude, great question. I am speculating above but I am inclined to accept what the Dr says.

I think he is confused about what oxidation really is... it’s when there there is a positively charged chemical that is ready to take an electron from another chemical and an antioxidant is a chemical that is meant to give its electron before it takes electrons from our own DNA or proteins which could cause mutations and aging. And we don’t get energy by adding oxygen to our food, oxygen comes at the end of cellular respiration in the ETC to stabilize (oxidize) H+ ions by converting them into H2O molecules.

Hey there! When it comes to dosing, it's less about mg and more about bioavailability. If you're taking vitamin C as a supplement, a liposomal formula offers the best absorbency no matter what the dose. There are benefits to megadosing vitamin C (up to 5000mg) but everyone should consult their healthcare professional in order to determine what dose is right for them. However, don't exceed the amount recommended on the bottle!
