It’s about scale. If certain types of videos get 25% less views than other videos, the creator will be incentivized to not upload those types of videos, regardless of the total number of views. The same is true for smaller channels, just with a lower number of views to benchmark popularity.

Also, as an Italian, it's amazing to see somebody speak so happily of Dante. Here it's mandatory in school, so many hate him because, y'know, school - and it's a pity, his Commedia is seriously enjoyable.
Divine Comedy is also mandatory in school where I live (Moscow) and I loved it so much that I "forgot" to return it to the school library after reading it and they didn't care that much, it seemed. I still have it (15 years or so, not sure what year exactly it was), so I guess I stole it 😁

I disliked reading it so much in school until I got to the ending. I think most of it was from all the other kids going off on the book that left a bad taste. But, it really did feel aimless which I guess is kinda the point

It's weird listening to someone who's read the divine commedy (Dante's Inferno) being an Italian student who has always studied it. I never heard of it as a 'normal book', but always as a poem. The most impressive thing (at least in the original italian version) is that it's all rhyming, it's like a huge rap song written in the 1300s
In Portugal we also always call it Divine Comedy. When Pewds was speaking I was wondering if maybe it was an adaptation made into prose.

rhyming schemes definitely doesnt translate well into other languages lol that’s why it’s a “book” instead of a poem. though maybe some translators have attempted to make dante’s inferno a poem in other languages

well, I've read Albert Camus' 'The Stranger' and it's not too difficult too understand! Probably because it is fiction, but I may be wrong. I am reading a non fiction work of Camus and I literally cannot understand most. (and here I thought my English was pretty okay but I guess I was wrong).
I had to read Th Myth of Sisyphus and other essays - Albert Camus twice just to comprehend half of the content.

I just finished Siddartha and coincidentally watched this video straight after - such an incredible book! Herman Hesse writes in simple prose but conveys profound ideas beautifully. I also picked up a couple Camus books today too (The First Man and The Myth of Sisyphus)... this is definitely a sign to get on with reading them. I love these videos.

I think you would enjoy reading Kazuo Ishiguro, he explores concepts of philosophy using science fiction as a vehicle and it’s highly entertaining. I would either start by reading Never Let Me Go or Klara and the Sun, his latest novel and the first one he has published since winning the nobel prize for literature.
Felix has read Never Let Me Go (it was in a previous book review), but I don't know about Klara and the Sun. If he hasn't read it, I'd agree that he should since I myself enjoyed it a lot.

I really love Felix's videos like these. It really shows a side of him that is rarely seen. I really hope you do more videos like these in the future, they're some of my favorites. feel like actually learned something meaningful for once.
Please never stop doing these. You're so articulate and you got me back into philosophy and stoicism. You're actually such a good role model without trying to be for many young adults, which says a lot about your character and what you care about. Love the philosophy that was shared when I read Siddhartha, it helped to understand myself and try meditation. Another amazing book series was by Robert Monroe's Journeys Out of The Body. Read that, saw his CIA Documents, looked up his Institute and his hemi sync sound therapy methods.. All profoundly amazing insights I'd recommended looking into. Another series that I would consider more bizzare but profound when your reading is the Law of One series by LL Research, the philosophy in that series is so indepth and has you consider the entirety of your experience in one of the most uncanny but redefining ways. It's worth the read.
I realize how old this is, but I really wish you would do more book reviews or even a deep dive on a classic or something. I love hearing your thoughts on books I love. Camus is a personal favorite of mine ❣️

I love these book reviews. I usually go for either natural history (latest one : "entangled life") or sci-fi (latest: "children of time") but I remember reading more philosophy at some point and that's always interesting too. I'l get the one from Herman Hesse! (I like that author anyway)

Loved your Dante's Inferno review. Here in Italy everybody has studied it in school and it's almost sacred especially for teachers, rightfully so because it's a masterpiece. But hearing talking about so casually like it was a little novel was so strange and refreshing, in a good way.
Appunto! Anche se la struttura stessa del poema, in Italiano, è a dir poc geniale e se lo leggono tradotto o trasposto in prosa si perdono tantissimo da un punto di vista stilistico... Però l'inferno resta la cantica più interessante ❤️

I think you would like "the body: a guide for occupants" by Bill Bryan. It has the same kind of concept like telling the interesting parts of biology and how scientists discovered things about our bodies. It was really entertaining and informative. The author has actually won many awards for his ability to explain science and there was even an award created in his name for it.

Honestly I’m so glad you’re doing this again. These videos single handed my re kindled my passion for reading. I’ve read both 1984 and A Brave New World since you recommended them and couldn’t be happier. These books are expanding my vocabulary and helping me express my ideas through more precise use of language while also exposing me to perspectives that I and previously never considered. These books are like a breath of fresh air into my life and I really appreciate you for pulling me back in. Now I’m trying to do the same for my friends and family, so thanks Pewds been watching since amnesia days and you age like fine wine.

In the last three years or so it has been humbling to see your progression and how content you seem with everything, genuinely happy for someone I don't physically know. These types of videos: book review, philosophical ones, explanations of theories and even the dumb ways to die are really awesome. They might not be what you think people want but as long as you're enjoying releasing them then that's what counts. Plus, because you enjoy doing them it really shows through in the video and makes it all that more enjoyable.

Technically Dante's Inferno is just the first part of a 3 part saga. The Divine Comedy is the full story, the first part being hell, then Purgatory, finally Paradise. I haven't read the last 2 but would reccomend the inferno too
Having read all three, Inferno is the most interesting, but it is worthwhile to finish the series too
@mickovitale Thats not a bad idea, you get exposed to so much culture & philosophy of the time and its sort of a capsule in the amt of things it brings in from elsewhere that still have echoes today.
Theres a reason why entire courses exist using selected books or etc as the scaffolding.
Read both Inferno and Paradise. IMO Paradise is also good read, would recommend, closes the whole story about the girl he's trying to find (Beatrice I think but i read them a long time ago so don't quote me on that)
We were forced to read Dante's Inferno for a class and I'm glad I let myself read it. It's also interesting how one can detect Dante's religious and political background from the work.

I hate this book so much, a teacher told us what’s it about and what personality the stranger has, that he’s like cold and logical and calculated or whatever and I was like damn kinda relatable, gonna read it, and then the dude was nothing like what I was expecting, he was not logical and calculated, he was literally just doing whatever whenever, just relying on instincts and the heat of the moment (pun intended) and I was literally so mad at this dude for literally stupidly fucking up his own life instead of just maybe thinking for a second…
I still hate this book with passion even like 3 years later!

Didn’t Camus reject existentialism because of the terms associations with Sartre, whom he also rejected? I don’t actually know the major differences between absurdism and existentialism but that’s what I thought.
@@benbenbinks2371 absurdism makes it very clear life has no meaning, existentialism insinuates that life has a meaning. Nihilism says life has no meaning, but differs from absurdism because absurdism sees beauty in seeing life as a sort of tragedy. Nihilism sees beauty in nothing, absurdism sees beauty in everything.

@@professorigor4432 I know I'm not the one you asked, but I will answer since I also respect Felix. He dropped out of college and his parents did not support him financially, so he was selling hotdogs. He is coming from humble beginnings and even though he is now a millionaire, he stayed humble. He also donates a lot. He made a few mistakes during his career, but he learned from them. He has a variety of content too, from screaming at video games to book reviews. When you watch his videos it shows that he is just being his authentic self and that he is a genuinely good person. At this point he doesn't even have to make videos, he is set for life, but he still does because he enjoys it.
@@professorigor4432 Felix has become somewhat of an icon in this generation. His personality manages to cover many facets of what it means to be man. I’m sure for everybody the reason for respecting him is different. He has captured influence in his life that many strive for. I personally think that his ability of balance is admirable, he remains consistent in doing what he enjoys. It feels as though he no longer lives in the influencer/CZcamsr atmosphere that often feels unnatural.
When it’s all boiled down Felix is just like any of us and I think that’s what gravitates people toward him.
If you haven’t, read “The Picture of Dorian Gray” by Oscar Wilde. I just read it for school and I loved it

Good news about Jesus Christ! When you first come to him, He completely erases/ forgives your past! You will not be punished for anything bad that you’ve done! Here’s how!
(2 Corinthians 5:17)- “If anyone is in Christ, He is a new creation: The old has gone, and the new has come!
(Explanation of the Bible verse above):
Whenever a person decides to turn their lives to God (and start living by the Bible), they will NOT be punished or penalized for any of their past sins before coming to God. Yes, a clean slate! Or A clean record!
This is what Christians mean when they say they’ve been “reborn” or “born again.” (To have their past erased completely and forgiven!)- a chance at redemption to start their lives fresh.
(So for example), if a prison inmate/ criminal decides to confess to his wrong doings, and ask Jesus Christ for forgiveness, Jesus is more than generous enough to forgive him and erase his past completely and give that man a fresh start at life! Yes, A chance at redemption to turn his life around and do the right things this time around.
This is what Christians call a “repentance.”
“A True Repentance”, (in a biblical sense), is when a person feels guilty, or remorseful or sorry for what they did in their past, so they confess and ask God for forgiveness, and then follow through with turning away from those things which they are sorry for. It’s a complete life turn around. Basically the act of becoming a better person!
(Acts 3:19)- “Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away.”
(Proverbs 28:13)- “Whoever conceals his sins will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.

Felix i highly recommend reading Camus "The Myth of Sisyphus" it's one of the most influential books out there and basically the perfect introduction to Camus philosophy and the concept of the absurdism. whats interesting about Camus is that he is the rare philosopher who is actually very optimistic so much so that he managed to turn one of the tragic Greek myths a.k.a Sisyphus into something positive

I've had the same experience when I discovered Camus, I thought he was an underground genius and then I stumbled upon a bunch of top 10s or 50 books of all time and saw that he had at least 2 books in all of them.
I recomand his philosophical essay the Myth of Sisyphus.
Germination by Zola is a wonderful fiction book I think you’d enjoy. I read it in a college class where I also read the plague so It definitely falls under something you’d enjoy.
I love it when he talks about this stuff because I’m interested in the same subjects and I can tell he’s just as passionate as I am :)

While you’re on the Camus train I really recommend the Myth of Sisyphus. Thematically similar to Dante’s inferno and Greek philosophy/mythology, and really reinforces the absurdity of life and pointless the struggle for the materiel
