In this episode: the MK14 EBR - a modernised version of the American M14 battle rifle, designed for a designated marksman role.
The Mk14's damage is high - like all of the other marksman rifles, you'll kill in two shots out to a mid-long range, or with just a single headshot.
At a greater distance, you may need up to three shots to kill instead, or two shots where one is a headshot.
Rate of fire is limited to 480 rounds per minute, falling behind both the MR-28 and IA-2 in exchange for a greater effective range.
Still, this level of output is sufficient for most engagements, as you'll want to make sure your shots are accurately placed.
Unaimed fire is not particularly effective: hipfire performance is poor, with only the sniper rifles proving less reliable.
Recoil is moderate, and as such tackling distant targets mandates a slower rate of fire to be effective.
However, you can shoot more quickly in closer ranged engagements: the key is ensuring your sights are settled on your target before firing again.
Aim time is average, at 300 millseconds - the standard for both the marksman and assault rifle classes.
Your mobility is similarly middle of the road, as you'll move at 90 percent of the base speed.
Magazine capacity is 18 rounds, or 27 with extended mags - the same as most of the other marksman rifles.
Given the semi-automatic fire, the 18 rounds are normally sufficient for any engagement - the higher per-shot damage means you can successfully tackle small groups with just a single mag.
Reload times are average for the class, at 2.97 seconds: as long as you keep a buffer zone between yourself and your enemy, the brief downtime during resupplies shouldn't prove an issue.
When building a class with the Mk14 EBR, you should focus on both power and precision: the weapon can deal the highest damage in its class, but this is only useful if you can direct those shots accurately onto target.
As we'll be focussing on longer-ranged combat, the integrated scope is probably the best optical option to use: not only is it ideal for use at such distances, the integrated scope enjoys lower recoil than the alternatives - and doesn't occupy an attachment slot.
Selecting the Muzzle Brake as one of your attachments will enhance your two-hit kill distance to the maximum possible: a useful trait at the fringe of your effective range.
Pair this with Armor Piercing rounds for maximum punch per trigger pull: you'll be better able to slice through thin cover, and you'll deal more damage to killstreaks too.
While ideally you should be shooting your target directly - every so often, some scenery will intersect your shot: and the added penetration power might prove decisive.
For your perks, Focus is a must with all of the marksman rifles - as landing successive shots on targets near or far is heavily dependent on the steadiest sights possible.
Positioning is key, too - knowing where the enemy is will prove essential to choosing the most effective firing position.
Equipping Wiretap will enhance your ability to pinpoint the enemy team through use of their own Sat-Coms: this betrayal will prove their undoing, as you can efficiently pick them off from a prepared spot.
It can also be worth picking up resisitive options such as Tac Resist, to better weather enemies assaulting your position - and a good sidearm is absolutely essential to fend off foes intent on getting close.
It can be wise to pick up a fallen enemy's weapon if it's an SMG or other suitable close-range option: such weapons will normally prove more reliable than a handgun.
The Mk14 EBR is a powerful option within the Marksman rifle category that doesn't sacrifice too much in the way of controllability.
In terms of power, only the SVU can trump you within the class - and in most cases you'll enjoy similar performance with better overall handling.
A two shot kill can shut out the lower damage weapons at a distance, and when firing from a strong position you'll have a clear edge in ranged combat.
Of course, accuracy is paramount during successful use of this weapon - and if you're not able to place your shots, you'll find opponents with more forgiving weapons will have an easy time tackling you.
You'll suffer at the hands of shotguns and SMGs up close, too - even with precision the marksman rifle's slower handling will let you down in closer-ranged firefights.
Still, with good judgement and positioning you can lessen the risk of uneven odds - and with anticipation of your enemy's movement you can provide perfect interdiction.
There's no doubt - when on target, this Enhanced Battle Rifle...
...will enhance your performance. - Hry
That's "moderate" recoil?
Woah, I've been playing too much Battlefield...
Flash forward to today, where Battlefield is more like CoD and CoD is more like Battlefield lol. The future is a weird place.
@hairy otter Not really... Unless you're really into hardcore games. Otherwise Insurgency is not fun for casual matches.
@hairy otter Yea except Squad is literally worse. Squad does one thing better than Battlefield though. They make you feel like you're fighting a modern war and it makes you feel like a soldier. Problem is that you absolutely will need to be extra careful and majority of all gunfights will occur at a range of 200-400m and walking to said gunfights will be around 30 minutes because the map is 2km. Squad is much more of a MilSim for hardcore players. Not a good replacement for Battlefield.
The one game that I do believe is somewhat equal to Battlefield is Rising Storm 2: Vietnam. It's hardcore in the sense that guns of all type will kill in 1-2 shots, teamwork is important but not vital and a casual person can get into it and after 2-5 games understand the role and gameplay of it. It's not too complex or too casual. Perfectly balanced.
@hairy otter Each to their own. :)
I prefer the causal arcade of Battlefield much more. It's a shame that no one at DICE knows how to make a good war game anymore.
Veteran Alpha yeah true
I grew up playing COD2, generally with the M1 Garand, so I find the iron sight attachment very comfortable on this rifle. I prefer it over the integrated scope because let's be honest, most Ghost maps involve mostly low to mid range altercations, in which the irons or the holographic suffice nicely.
you've played CoD2 as well? Nice.
Lenny Brown Jr Yes, of course. One of, if not my favorite CoD game ever.
Dammit Stu, you could've had a "Marked man" or "marked for death" pun at the end!
Yeah he copped out lool
I find it hilarious that they used the animation all the way back from MW2 for this gun xD.
The animation is actually very good, so why changing it? ^^ MW2 had the best weapon animations in my opinion. :)
i think its the same animation from COD4, but most companies do reuse animations all the time, as it saves time and money.
It's even more hilarious that for such a big franchise, they thought it'd be sufficient to use the same engine still and call it a 'new engine' just because they've modified it once again.
it's been GREATLY upgraded, but yes you are right, it's not brand new. but if they would have started from the ground up the game would have suffered due to it being a first version. As one of the largest selling series ever, they continue to play it safe instead of innovate.
tommoex you obviously don't understand anything about engines, and their current position as a developer. I hate to be condescending, but just think about it for five seconds. for a start, activision has them each releasing a new game every 2 years, and they both have to work off the same engine. because activision are such a business-oriented company, because they are a corporation after all, they try to save money and maximize profit at every turn.
and they have to play it safe, because they know soon cod will die, and they may as well milk the franchise for another while. it's clear the love is gone, and we as consumers should move onto other games, the devs of which actually care about a quality game.
Hey XboxAhoy, i cant believe you left out the fact that this weapon's 1hit kill range is on par with the IA-2 2hit kill range... The Mk14 is a beast. =)
"as long as you keep a buffer zone between yourself and the enemy, the brief down time during resupplies shouldn't prove an issue." What an eloquent way of speaking! love this guy
Powerful marksman rifle, but I personally prefer the MR-28 over it because I can shoot faster with it.
I know what you mean, I prefer guns with both power and accuracy, these tend to suit me better.
I always over sample this, especially hip firing.
I know right, when someone runs in front of you you shoot like a wild man trying to kill the guy.
So pew pew only?
you really hit the mark with this one.
I love your weapon reviews, keep it up man.
I think it's pretty amazing how some content creators can spark an interest in people with a game that they don't play or absolutely hate. I haven't liked a Call of Duty game since Modern Warfare 2, but here I am... still watching XboxAhoy CoD weapons guides. I'm not even sure if it has to do with the content of the video itself or if it's the personality of the creator. Maybe both?
I don't even play this game, i'm here for xboxahoy ,-,
Vitor S. 4 years later and I do the same. His videos are great to watch.
@@kerlongsjorlejov1945 same bro
I am here vor xbox but i played(and love it to shit was my first cod) the game with my bro as well.
yeah i love these guys weapon guides, i wish he continued because they’re so entertaining
am I the only one who thinks ghosts is actually ok
No i also think it is a pretty good game
I like it
I do to.
Ok? I thought it was great!😃
"Faster overall kill times means guns are easier to balance" would be one of the stupidest statements iv heard all week if it wasn't followed up with "and firefights are more skill and positioning based (because of the fast TTK)". Both of those statements are heinously untrue.
I just started getting familiar with this beast! Muzzle break, extended mags, burst fire attachment. Kills anything in its path 2 to 3 shots. Nuff said!
WOW, your weapon guides are the best(looking) I have ever seen!!
I use the MK14 EBR with a Sniper Scope and Armour Rounds. It's freakin amazing!
Yay, FINALLY the L115 will be coming next! :)
It's my favorite weapon in Ghosts next to the SAW, so I'm curious to see how you portray it!
This is my favorite gun in the game. I use it with muzzle brake and eotech so I can tell how much damage I'm gonna do.
Nice to see a MK14 return, always a favourite (i've not played ghosts yet)
i love how the background music intensifies right before the pun
This is my favourite class. I change it slightly. I use amplify instead of tac resist and I use the P226 with muzzle break instead of the M9A1 with extended clip.
Could you do this series for Battlefield 4 also?
hey stu, given that you're going to finish your weapon guides soon, would you consider doing some more commentaries on the ahoyxbox channel? i thoroughly enjoy those videos, mainly because of your laid back attitude.
I love the mk 14 ebr. Performs well. Has great range
Can't wait to see the Maverick's Review.
I'm honestly looking forward to YOUR opinion on the pistols, since you seem to like the M9A1 alot, where as many use the P226. So, I'm curious to see what you have to show for these side arms. :)
Try the grach with AP rounds. That is for 9 bang storming buildings!
Love this gun for a lot of maps. Run and gun with this almost seems easy
I seen you in a lobby just the other night in-between games and before the game started I was disconnected. Gutted I didn't get to play a game with you.
Best weapon reviews ever...
I love the MR-28 burst fire
Hello Stu, just wandering why you prefer the M9A1 as your preferred side arm.
Keep up the good work!
Lol. I already used those attachments for that battle riffle.
Stuart, given the oppertunity, financial investment, and nessecary training, would you consider opening a brewery of your own?
To leave the hypothetical, have you ever home brewed, and/or do you have any plans to try home brewing?
Missed an opportunity on the closing line there, Stu. Could've done "this enhanced battle rifle... will help you hit your mark." Then, too, there's a number of other ways to go with 'mark' that the other commenters have already covered. That said, am I really gonna complain about imperfect humor on such an excellent series? LOL
This class he uses is great in gameplay, but i recommend using the P226 instead of the M9. the P226 boasts the best 2 and 3 hit kill ranges and has the second highest fire rate so with a quick trigger finger you won't oversample much.
im always waiting for the puns/catch phrases at the end haha
Thanks for the insight!
red dot and silencer, epic stealth...
Good video keep it up
Loooooooove this weapon k/d ratio sky rocketed once I used it.
i used the mk14 ebr for the first time and got first blood, final kill, kem, and maniac.
it is beast!!!!!!
On your bonnus series, you now use one stripe. Are you going to use 2 stripes next, or something wild like a circle? :O
Hello Stuart, I have a small request for you. Could you please have at least one clip of each weapon using just the iron sights? We all know what the optical attachments look like, and as someone who quit playing Call of Duty, I can't play the game myself to see each weapon's iron sights. I can't just watch other videos because everyone and their mom seemingly ALWAYS uses at least a red dot sight on EVERY weapon like everyone does in Battlefield games. Even when a weapon's iron sights are beautiful, like the SCAR-L/H, MP7, any AK variant, etc. Please show us the irons of each weapon going forward if possible. Thank you and keep up the good work.
I make a killer stealth class with the suppressor and thermal hybrid scope, it is *fire*
this was fucking brilliant. very proffesional. good job
I was expecting the punch line to be something along the lines of, "When using the Mark 14, you'll be sure your opponents *shades* will be marked for death." YYYYYEAAAAH!
i know right, i was somewhat dissapointed.
i use this with muzzle break and tracker sight and it's so reliable
I accidentally pressed this and stayed for the epic voice
Haven't even had a cod since mw3... he sounds like ghost
Idk what it is about this rifle. But i really like it. Better than the ia2. Its like its recoil shock in the controller allows gives me a better feel for the timing and prevents me from over sampling.
Ghosts killed it in weapons.
I loved all of them.
I reckon all the cods that activision made the weapons were amazing
+Sweg Bear All CoDs are published by Activision. Maybe you meant Infinity Ward?
***** no i meant activision
Sweg Bear But Activision does not make Call Of Duty. They only publish it.
***** no activision makes it and infinity ward publishes it
Stu , have you ever seen any episodes of the "AVGN"? If you did, what do you think of him? I personally think that he's super funny and it would be cool if you did an AVGN style rant in an episode of Retro Ahoy, if you ever want to make one of course. >D
I love ur voice Ahoy LOVE UT
It*
are u going to do reticule guide and also weapon attachment guide
Use a tracker sight. It will help you in close and far range
Overpowered like in mw3, im glad they knocked it down a peg in Adub. Still viable but requiring more thought
I actually cant wait for him to get to the pistols. i just want to hear his opinion on th .44 magnum. that what i use
Hello mister Brown, question:
Do you think that the marksman rifles (basically semi AR) should have their own category or should they rather just be within the Assault Rifle class?
Also: do you think that the marksman rifles are useable in Ghosts?
Stu could you start to list what distance the minimum damage starts?
Loved your vid, this is my fav weapon on ghosts. Im not the best but im a beast with it. Gotten called a hacker and people yell at me that im using aim bot.. Lol i just really like this weapon. I never cheat, theres no fun in it so why bother when your good at something.
do a vks weapon guide if you put armor percing ammo and thermal scope one shot one kill.
Can't wait to buy a M1a/M14. :D
I prefer the Tracker Sight and Burst fire, three shots to kill at any range.
Hey Stu, if you could pick any special ops unit to be a member of, which would you pick? Also, if you could pick any Special Ops soldier from a video game to be in real life, who would you choose?
You should make a video on call of duty ghost lynx
i was assuming that the pun was going to be that it's an mmm'kay rifle but oh well
The third time this gun appeared in the COD franchise
For those who don't know what I'm talking about, it appeared in:
Modern Warfare 2 (incorrectly called "M14 EBR")
Modern Warfare 3
Ghosts
Advanced Warfare
Stu, I was sondering if you pay any attention to comments on your older videos.
I think I should try this in CoD: Online. xP
The ia2 is my goto marksman rifle
What is that guy doing at 3:34? Sliding into cover? Or is that lag?
sliding
I look challenged because I just slide everywhere for shits and giggles
I always but the burst fire on the Marksman rifle
Where do you see First Person Shooters in the future (maybe 5 or even 10 years)?
Focus is a must*
Dont get me wrong, but do you need to be golden member to play online in xbox 360? sorry i never used xbox360 before and i was thinking about xb1
I am thinking that the three burst attachment may be good for this weapon, considering it kills in 3 shots or less at all ranges. And the burstfire attachment has an added multiplier.
Three-round burst has a recoil increase that makes it almost unusable at medium range.
Not with the DMR's fortunately.
Jet The Hawk
Really? They must have patched it, because at release it was not the case.
MrCrazyGopher Nope they never patched it. Because of the DMR's high damage, they get no added multipliers when Burst fire is added. That's only for AR's.
Stu are you a fan of RTS games like the Total war series if so is your fav?
Silencer+amor piercing round is best
oh mk14 ebr...oh wait its the mk14 from mw3!.. oh wait a second its the m21 ebr from mw2!..oh wait its the m21 from cod4!
+ffiirraatt93 LOL
TrunksTheMusicEditor
oh wait its the m1 garand from cod 2!
I think most of us will agree the MK and SVU are the most reliable marksman rifles
Mk 14 with AP rounds reminds me of Gomer Pyle and his M14 FMJ Suicide
Too bad he was killed in the bathroom in that movie :(
Using Burst Fire: not happening.
Stu, I see your using the support package any reason why ?
M14 and MK14 were seperated at birth by infinity ward and treyarch however treyarch at least used it in zombies and made it the best starting weapon ever
Lithe pun could have been you can make your Mark (MK) or something like that
4:35 Reminds me of bulletproof bananas and tissue paper concrete walls. All of the Marksman guns are OP in Hardcore, one shot kills. My favorite is the MK-14 + Silencer + Thermal in Hardcore.
In hardcore, most rifles are one hit kills to midrange at any rate, so why not use an AK or an R5 that has better fire rate and full auto? Or, if you want to use a sniper replacement, why not use the MR-28 which has less recoil and a better fire rate than the MK14? Hell, if you want a silenced, long range weapon, try the Honey Badger with single-shot and an optic of your choice. It has a long, though not indefinite, one hit kill range, and an excellent ROF. The additional multipliers for single shot mean that a chest or headshot will be a single shot kill at any range, to boot.
I've tried many of the AR's, SMG's, etc and since I have good aim, play the PC not a Console, I know what works the best at least for me. Some maps I use AR's and with certain game modes where i need more speed the SMG's. However, i mostly play TDM Hardcore and on the PC it's very 'campy' and the Marksman's accuracy, rate of fire and damage (1-shot kills) works best.
what is the soundtrack in the background
I prefer this weapon with 3 round burst and iron sights. I kicks ass
Not sure if this question has been asked before but; does using armor piercing rounds change how many rounds are needed for a kill?
***** Good looking, thnx!
***** CoD4 had stopping power perk
***** CoD4 (and 2) were the most fun of the series, so its hard to forget.
It changes the damage dropoff through cover. In other words, you do more damage when shooting through walls. And Ghosts decided to make a larger benefit by making the rounds negate Ballistic Vests, largely negates a Juggernaut's shields, and magnifies damage against vehicles such as Sentry Guns, IMS, Hinds, etc..
EBR Stands for enhanced Battle rifle
I used to use 3 round burst with the suppressor on this rifle. Come to think of it, felt like I was cheating because it usually just take 2 rounds to kill especially when the recoil makes the second shot hit the head but if my first burst doesn't do it, my target usually doesn't even know where I was
Wouldn't blast shield be more effective than tac resist
Put on red dot and the 3 round burst mod
good...
Is sounds like a professional review on a tv show xD
SVU FTW !
IA-2 = FAL OSW
I don't know why but I use the acog scope and I'm actually good
where are the subtitles
Hey STEWIE why do you dislike being called STEWIE? 8)
It is the M14 from zombies. It's most obvious because of the reload and name
Post the IA-2
MK14 EBR looks like an MK14 in MW3 and it looks same in MW2
