M27 IAR - Call of Duty Ghosts Weapon Guide

In this episode: the M27 IAR - a derivation of the HK416 rifle, developed by German company Heckler & Koch at the behest of the US military.
The M27's damage is good, killing in 3 shots up close - or two where one is a headshot.
At a distance you'll find damage remains remarkably consistent, up until an extreme range where you may need up to 4 shots to kill.
Rate of fire is moderately low, at 705 rounds per minute. This will help keep you on target and prolong your magazine, at the cost of less reliable performance in closer quarters.
Hipfire performance is generally poor, and while the 100 rounds can be effective from the hip if fired in short bursts - pinning the trigger will quickly lead to most of your shots going wayward.
Recoil is moderate, and easy enough to handle if you can adapt your trigger usage to the range you're engaging at.
If all else fails, the large magazine will mean you'll eventually be able to kill distant targets through sheer volume of fire.
Aim time is quite slow, at 350 milliseconds - the LMGs favour a player with a plan than one hoping to get by on wits alone.
Movement speed is similarly sluggish, at 80 percent of the base speed.
Magazine capacity is very good, a key trait of the LMGs: 100 rounds between reloads means you'll be on station where other weapons must pause to resupply.
Of course, this comes at the cost of a lengthy reload - but the M27 is at least the fastest within the LMG class, at a positively sprightly 4.77 seconds.
The M27 is the best LMG to use at a longer range, as it has consistent damage out to a great distance, and a manageable level of recoil.
The addition of a fore grip will help to steady your fire even further, making it easy to land shots at any distance and increasing your overall effectiveness.
Because of the M27's incredible range, you can also use the silencer with little negative effect: you should still see a 3 shot kill in almost every case.
This will mean you can retain the high level of damage while remaining undetected on the minimap: a potent combination indeed.
It can also be worthwhile using the Extra Attachment perk if you'd also like to equip an optic - the iron sights are fine for mid range work, but the addition of an optic such as the VMR sight can really help along the longer sightlines.
With it, you gain the benefit of enhanced magnification when you need it - and a clear close-range optic when you don't.
For your perks, Focus is always a great choice for a longer-ranged automatic weapon: you'll benefit from reduced idle sway, and much-reduced flinch when taking incoming fire.
Sleight of Hand is a worthy consideration to reduce the downtime you experience while reloading - while the M27 is the fastest-reloading LMG, nearly 5 seconds is a long time when an enemy is closing in on your position.
To take maximum advantage of your suppressor, Off The Grid can be a worthy spend too - further concealing your position and lending you the element of surprise.
While LMGs typically aren't ideal stealth weapons, your defense will nonetheless benefit from unwary enemies wandering before you - and while an unsuppressed weapon can draw in targets for more kills, a silent weapon will avoid such attention and help keep you alive for longer streaks.
The M27 IAR is a weapon capable of prolonged fire with consistent damage at all ranges.
Few automatic weapons can match the per-shot damage at a distance, and when paired with the huge magazine capacity, the M27 is an ideal weapon for suppressive fire over longer sightlines.
As well as having 100 rounds on tap, the weapon also boasts the fastest reload within the LMG category: and while it's far from an instant resupply, compared to the belt-fed weapons a mag change is very swift indeed.
Unfortunately, the remainder of the M27's handling is slow: movement speed, raise times and aim time all lag behind most other weapons: and while rate of fire is average for the class, your output will still fall behind most other automatic weapons.
Still, as long as you treat the M27 as an LMG and favour cautious play from planned positions, it will perform admirably - consistent damage with perisistent performance is a stellar blend.

For this gun, and really any LMG in any COD game, I strongly recommend Stalker/Stock/whatever lets you maintain speed while ADS. Quickdraw and Ready Up, no matter how fast they make your aim time, can't compare to the swift reaction of one who's already aiming.
With Stalker, you'll get both mobility and reactivity if you remember to always ADS a moment before you move to where you expect a firefight. It's worked for me time and time again, on Core and Hardcore.

It is slow only if you want to extinguish 1000 rounds in 1 minute, otherwise the 705 RPM is quite useful for spending more rounds and prolonging your fire at the same time

If you were to do a "Weapons of Ghosts" series, which weapons would you select, and why?
My favorite setup with the M27 IAR: Extra Attachment, Tracker Sight (Optic mode for long engagements and the Iron Sights for close to mid range), Silencer and Rapid Fire. Without the grip, longer range engagement prove a little more difficult but I run most of the Stealth perks including Off The Grid to remedy this, in order to proceed closer with little to no risk. But Amplify players are my bane. My 2ndary is the M9A1 with the Silencer and Extended Mags. Throwing Knife, no tacticals, and support kill streaks.

Best LMG in the game. Now, it is a camper's gun. It is ideal if you are camping out at a high point looking out a window to serve as over watch for the team. So ideal attachments and perks would be thermal hybrid scope, silencer, extended mags, fully loaded, extra lethal, and extra attachment. And being that it is a camper's gun, I will let you guess what the complimentary lethal gear is.

The addition of the marksman rifles as a weapon class was a good move by Infinity ward, because they've never really been emphasized in other COD games.

You know the range is amazing if XboxAhoy didn't use an un-suppressed gameplay in this weapon guide.
Good loadout, mine is different, but devastating: equip Silencer, AP rounds and Tracker Sight, go for quick draw, extra attachment (duh), and stalker (i believe, can't quite remember). This works well on domination and as long as you keep back, just like XA said, you will rip up the enemy team.
The M27 with the Dead Eye perk and FMJ, oh man it was a beast.

The weakness of the M27 IAR that you cited is not the design, not the flaw. LMGs were never designed for close-quarters combat, really they were designed for suppression and cover fire, or in CoD, for holding down a position while enemies come and attack.

This is a good class! I know most people don't care but I like to use the M27 with fore-grip and silencer but use it aggressively with focus, sleight of hand, stalker, ICU and agility. Focus and sleight of hand for the same reasons as Stu. Stalker is useful combined with agility so I can move through interiors with the sights up ready to take down anything in there. Agility balances out the decreased movement speed so I can move as fast as another player using an assault rifle and just a bit slower than a player with a sub-machine gun. Finally, ICU helps to quickly fill up on health again and makes the class feel more tank-like. So there's my two cents.

I've been saying since the MW2 that drum magazine should be an attachment for the assault rifle class.

That is actually a Knights Armament Corporation rear iron sight. Look it up and you will see what the iron sight actually is before half of it was "snapped" off.

Attachments: Thermale scope rapid fire foregrip Perks: Hardline extra attachment and overkill (2 Primary weapons!!) secondary is bulldog with extended mags and muzzle brake. Lethal IED tacticle smoke. Good weapons for Close and long combat.
the m27 iar is based off the 416 assault rifle, but with a bigger mag and heavy barrel to fullfill the support role in combat.
i wish they had the 416 as a assault rifle or some variant or attachment optian for the m27 iar, with less range and damage but more mobility

Love this gun
By far my favorite LMG in Ghosts, effective even on Stonehaven. I prefer it with Grip and Thermal (or VMR if a lot of enemies are wearing Incog). Perks I find to be useful: Focus, Quickdraw, Ready Up. After that, it's based on the map. I don't usually use this gun on CQB maps, so Slight of Hand isn't a necessity, as when I need to reload, the map is big enough to be in a relatively safe place. I find Amplify or Dead Silence more beneficial than SoH.

Suppose they wanted to make the weapon seem poorly serviced and battered,though thats strange since that means every one of them has to have broken sights.Almost like somone swore a vendetta and has been breaking them on purpose ever since.........Ghosts 2 enyone?
Since CoD:Ghosts is based in a apocaliptic scenario,im guessing those iron sights broke during a battle or they have been heavily used

I like the iron sight in this LMG.
M27 IAR Loadout with the rapid fire attachment and grip paired with the long barrel or silencer will make it an deadly accurate and still a fast firing killing machine to either K.O your foe at a distance with long barrel or do this trading to silently take out your foe, what do u thing stuart? (USE THE 3 ATTATCHMENT PERK AND TRY IT OUT YOURSELF!)
