CLIP DESCRIPTION:
After a failed drive-by shooting, William 'D-Fens' Foster (Michael Douglas) takes the gang's weapons and walks away.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
It's just not William Foster's (Michael Douglas) day. Laid off from his defense job, Foster gets stuck in the middle of the mother of all traffic jams. Desirous of attending his daughter's birthday party at the home of his ex-wife (Barbara Hershey), Foster abandons his car and begins walking, encountering one urban humiliation after another (the Korean shopkeeper who obstinately refuses to give change is the worst of the batch). He also slowly unravels mentally, finally snapping at a fast-food restaurant that refuses to serve him breakfast because it's "too late." Running amok with an arsenal of weapons at the ready, Foster -- also known as "D-FENS" because of his vanity license plate -- rapidly becomes a source of terror to some, a folk hero to others. It's up to reluctant cop Prendergast (Robert Duvall), on the eve of his retirement, to bring D-FENS down.

@@the_hoarder dude, he obviously meant to take some damn shooting lessons, just like he said, after all those guys shot up everyone in the driveby, except their target, him!
When he shoots the gangster's leg and the beat kicks in with the gunshot, it just gets you hyped. Everything in this movie is tied together perfectly, it's all in sync all the time.
This movie was perfect. They just don't do it like that anymore.
It’s crazy the same guy made Batman & Robin.
The gangster bled out and died moments before the ambulance pulled up..:in pain…on the hottest day of the year.
I thought I was the only one that noticed that thing with music beat kicking in that time :)
0:28 Here is an interesting detail I just noticed the first time:
The weapon on the ground is an UZI. Unlike most other firearms, it has 2 safeties. The regular switch you need to flip like most firearms, but also a lever you need to press with your palm. This UZI has a rubber band wrapped around the lever, so the gun is easier to fire.
They should work on their guns. Open it up, remove that safety mechanism. Personally, I'd prefer my Benelli M4. OO Buck, way more lead down range
I suppose it's there to compensate for any loose grip they might encounter firing it one handed, which would prevent them from depressing the grip safety properly and therefore impede normal operation of the firearm.
@@user-gm7bo5ne5p This scene immediately follows an attempted drive-by wherein the Uzi in question is used by the thugs - a long shotgun with limited capacity would not be ideal for that application, seeing as one would have to ready and fire it from the tight space in a car. A compact submachine gun such as the Uzi with its telescoping bolt design is more suited to the task.
I love shotguns, but there is a reason why not even the police nowadays use them very often in a lethal combat capacity - often relegating them to utility roles such as LTL or breaching. Their limited capacity, relatively high recoil, tendency for overpenetration in some cases, and cumbersome length are not ideal for close quarters fighting in urban environments, even if a single shot achieves good effect on unarmored targets. In addition, shotguns are not as effective as rifles or even PCCs at longer ranges, which are surprisingly common in urban combat (think parking lots and malls).
On the other hand, rifles can be made to be compact and still have enough range to engage at common distances in urban combat. They can be fitted with box magazines that offer higher capacity than shotguns, which is valuable in multiple applications in LE, such as drug-addled suspects who refuse to go down, against suspects who have lots of ammunition, or simply as a rudimentary means of suppressing fire to cover your fellow officers' maneuvers.
Also, I don't really know how you expect two-bit thugs to have the sense to modify their guns to remove the safety. Sure, they used to modify TEC-9s back then with auto sears, and today they modify Glocks the same way. But if there's a simple solution, they'll always go for that. Because thugs don't actually know a lot about guns, nor do they care to maintain them to the same degree as us gun nuts. That's why captured firearms from criminals tend to have such atrocities as rusty parts and a random mix of different ammunition in the magazine. It's why you often see them firing pistols one handed while hopping around, neglecting to use the sights or any proper shooting stance. They get guns so they can act tough and commit wanton acts of violence. As much as they seem to glorify guns, they have zero actual respect for them.
@@user-gm7bo5ne5p nothing takes care of a problem like 00 buck.
