The 2022 Ford Maverick is an incredible value proposition. The Maverick’s hybrid powertrain lets it pack more MPGs than a Honda Civic into a tidy, unibody truck. If you want frills, you’re going to want to keep looking, but the 2022 Ford Maverick’s got plenty to offer in the functionality department. And at a starting price just south of $20k, it’s the least expensive way to get into a brand new hybrid today.

I swear most people are so spoiled today it ruins their perspective. This is a BASE vehicle that starts at under 20K! Everything he complained about was not intended for this vehicle or it's target. Vehicles today are super expensive, super tech heavy and complicated as well as loaded with things that fail over time and costs a lot to repair. This vehicle is a grand small for what it was designed to be. Cheap, efficient, useful and a return to vehicle sanity.

Say what you want about lacking features, but this is what people wanted when Ford brought back the Ranger. A cheap, utility mini-truck that the common person can actually afford. I can only speak from my point of view, but in a world of $90,000 pickup trucks, these are going to be hard to keep in stock.

This is what the Ranger used to be. An affordable, entry level truck with good efficiency. No surprise this vehicle is selling well. Any kind of truck coming in below $30k is going to sell. Being a Chevy guy who has driven Chevy trucks for over 20 years, I am interested to see what they come up to counter this. The only downside would be the interior room for me. I would have to sit in one and see how well my 6'1" body fits in it.

Why is it that an 8" touch screen on an import subcompact sedan is a welcomed plus, but an 8" screen on the Maverick is written off as what you get for the money?
Many of the vehicles I've owned, and it's been quite a few, have not had even the features of the Maverick XL, and for the most part I haven't wanted them, nor missed not having them to begin with. Sure, heated seats and steering wheel in upstate NY during the winter is wonderful, but I've survived 50+ years of my life without them just fine. Power seats and mirrors are handy for the initial setting of those items, but then I never touch those buttons again for months or years, so why do I need them?
People have been asking for smaller and simpler trucks for years, Ford has finally decided to answer our request.

My wife has Sirius xm on her phone and is therefore able to play it through the xl trim's sync system. Just wanted to correct that misleading statement. I myself prefer using spotify. I loved paying so little for the trucklet and am now loving getting 42 miles per gallon and approximately 515+ miles per tank with gas prices as high as they are. With the truck broken in, I drive normal, about 5 miles over the speed limit with most of my driving being between 45 and 55 mile per hour zones. From traffic lights, the Maverick pulls away from the traffic behind me with ease and I can pass people on non highway roads with ease as well. No, it's not a race car with ton's of horsepower, but it has plenty of power for it's relatively light weight for every day driving.

Otherwise, with the mods/addons I've done, it certainly doesn't feel like a base model. Overall it's a great commuter with light truck capabilities that drives rather well. What I wanted to say though even though base model all models come with ford pass app with auto start/ unlocking/ vehicle monitoring. More surprising just found out that base model also has pre collision assist. Beeps and or stops if I don’t hit the brakes to vehicle or person in front of me. On base model! No co pilot 360. Very very happy.

I am among the first people to order my wife an XLT Maverick hybrid. That order was placed the moment they hit the advertising button on it. So spring of 2021? I honestly forget!!! But my dealer just told me it is being built in June (like now as I write this). I couldn’t even show one to my wife. Recently the dealer called us and said come see one. His son got one and it was - unfortunately- in their dealer shop as his son his something in the front end and his sensors keep alarming on the dash. Anyway we couldn’t drive it but it was an XLT and it was not a hybrid. My wife stepped in - sat down and looked around - gets out - looks at my dealer and says “Kevin where the hell is my truck!?” Haha. Swear to God. We all laughed. I ordered it for her because a) she always wanted a hybrid despite normal hybrid economics requiring a 10-12 year payback on fuel savings and b) she works as a day care nurse and when she drives around with her patient she’s always folding up the wheel chair and stuffing it in her Camry trunk. Now she can unfold the tonneau cover and just put it in. Plus that little 4.5’ bed with tonneau will hold all the groceries and then some.
Plus I got it cuz I wanted it!!! Haha.

Pretty much everything mentioned as a negative is exactly what people have been begging for. There is a huge market of people that want a bare bones small truck with a price tag that isn't the price of a small home. The gigantic trucks out there have their purpose but i would bet that 90% of those sold never get used as a truck. I have a bare bones XL and love how simple it is. I thought my truck days were over because I no longer have any need for a large truck, and I certainly don't want to spend the GDP of a small country to get all the bells and whistles that were on pretty much every truck up until this year. I don't understand why a keyless fob ($200-300) and push button is somehow easier or more efficient than key fob ($5) and then key ignition. Motions and steps are roughly the same, but keys are less susceptible to EMP or even ordinary ambient EM interference should that be amplified. And I can always get in my car even if the fob is crushed or the battery goes dead and go get another fob. If peeps grew up technophile, then I guess keyless seems cool, but frankly, it's about the same or slightly worse to the base model keyed ignition person. :)

After reading comments and watching. He mentioned the plastic sounds going over the rough roads. Which is exactly the concern I will have, really would just be happy with basic metal no plastic. Roll up windows are just fine with me. I prefer ford to just come back with a true basic truck at a low price, I can maintain and not need a computer to work on it with.

I just got in an accident with my 2021 Ford ranger that I bought less than 2 years ago. Rangers are now $4-5k more than they were when I bought mine. If they total my truck, I'm seriously considering the Maverick primarily for its price point. A used Ranger similar to mine is selling for more than what I paid for it new...

I don't see trucks on the road anymore, I see fools driving expensive jewelry on the road with nothing in their truck bed and never having towed anything in their lives. A soccer mom driving a Maverick with some sports equipment in the truck bed is using a truck more than the idiots with full sized trucks who got scammed into taking every car dealer trim package upcharge driving around with pristine truck beds.

TOO cheap?! Yeah right, you get an INSANE amount of features. People don’t realize how many people still drive cars that don’t have ANY of those niceties like emergency breaking, Apple car play, the thing where you can take your foot off the break and it will stay stopped, etc. Hell I drive a manual transmission that doesn’t even have Bluetooth or USB. I cannot WAIT to get a maverick. The one thing I really want is the ford co-pilot and a push to start ignition. Hopefully on the 2023 model they will offer both of those features on the XLT or XL. I don’t want to go all the way up to a lariat just for push to start.

So many videos where the host laments all the “hard plastic”, sometimes with a rap of the knuckles. .???? I drive a 2014 F150 STX 4 x 4. I love it. Very easy to clean and stays fairly clean. But rap your knuckles on the trim. Hard plastic. I think too many who haven’t “lived” with a particular component have a mental bias because they haven’t lived with the component. I believe Maverick is a home run and I can’t wait for order bank to open.

My hyrbid xlt hybrid with lux, copilot, sunroof, rear window in that exact same blue velocity is in transit and should be delivred in may. I honestly woult trade this for a ioniq5 though. When i ordered the maverick last summer in 2021 gas price was almost half the price. I ordered The hybrid thinking i would save some money on gas. By the time i receive the maverick i would just be paying what i was paying back in early 2021. Electricity did not double like the gas did. Who know, gas might triple by 2023…i can't imagine what gas would cost in case of world war 3. The maverick xlt/lariat is cheap but frankly it is only $10k less than the cheapest machE or ioniq5. Anyhow, the maverick has a difficult spare tire access. The tool to remove the spare tire is located underneath the rear seat, good luck if you have a child seat in the back, A 60/40 split rear seat would have been a better design for those with child seat. In the end you pay for what you get, the good thing is i will be able to resell it almost the same price i will pay.

The reason why the maverick has all the options locked into the higher price range is that it is obviously designed to be a budget vehicle. If you wanted a higher-end truck and have the budget there are other options at the top end pricing of the maverick and when you cross into 40k you are looking at luxury level prices, and therefore should be looking at luxury vehicles, not budget vehicles. The spare access tool is basically the same in chevy's as well.

I think millennials and gen z expect items that were luxury features in the 1990s to be included in the base car models. On my first new car after college, a 1986 Jetta, I had to pay over $100 then, for a radio prep package. That package only came with a front and rear speaker and a removable cover plate for me to install a radio later. What is included on the maverick xl today....radio, power windows and locks, air bags...would be luxury items I couldn't afford on my first car. Be happy for what it comes with and stop complaining.
