@Pedro Limon Why do you have to be a hater. Twin Sticks admits he is not a pro at this but considering what these projects were to start with, the limit of tools he has available and working outside in the elements till recently I would say he's doing a hell of a job .
Hi ezrider ,I'm watching you tear into the duromax. I'm looking forward to seeing you tear it down, I've never seen one of these newer small truck diesels torn down. I owned my own big rig years ago, a 1973 transtar 318 detroit, back in the 70s. I lost the overdrive in my 13 Apr over trans. I pulled it myself and repaired it, I couldn't afford to pay labor. I wasn't in the owner/ operator business very long, but I had to try it. I've done a lot of car n work truck engine swaps in years past, built a few hotties in my time too. Now I'm an old man, 74 yrs of age, combat vet of the V/N war, 101st Airborne div. , diabetic, and knees, etc. I really enjoy your videos, keep em coming!!!!!!
Respect to this video . Other guys on CZcams are bragging about pulling an engine out of a totaled truck with no fenders or nothing on it . This is the duramax removal video I was looking for
It always amazes me at how much you get done single handedly! Wish my guys had half your ambition and work ethic. You are a great role model. Thank you for your videos.
Great job! I literally jumped when the air boot blew 🤣🤣! Can't wait to see the gut pile of the blown engine! Glad to hear your shout out to JC Smith...love both of your no nonsense content! Keep it coming.
Success! You made it look ez Ezra. I missed the part where you evacuated the a/c😉 Nifty trick I learned on someone's youtube channel, you might already know about...tear a little square of paper towel and put it over your bolt head (or nut) then put it in your socket. The paper towel holds it in place...It really works!
I agree with mh57. A lot of what you guys do help me tackle the same issues I got going on. I'm no mechanic but I do a lot of my own stuff. So it's helpful to see it done.
Job well done Ezra, not an easy job doing it all by yourself. At least you can stand up straight when working on this engine, I'm currently working on my Lexus, without the car being on a lift. Man, my back is killing me after one hour of working. Anyhow, thanks for the update!
Very well done very tedious work all the new cars and trucks got a lot of other stuff in the way I bet you’re happy you got that finished you did a great job 👍🏼
As always great work I have a lot of trouble with the boots blowing up from the air to air I have been taught by a mechanic he showed me how to use hairspray when you reclamp back together and it keeps them from blowing off it's easy
You put out a good instructive video padna. I'm from Alabama, in Seattle attempting to swap out a 6.6 turbo diesel duramax. Still haven't gotten a motor. Need one bad.
I did the same to a 1988 Ford F250 7.3 IDI diesel last year. I wish I had a shop or big garage at home, I did mine in the driveway. It took more than a weekend, several weeks to finish it between my full-time job and being at the mercy of the winter weather here on the east coast. It was a bit easier in terms of not having as much plumbing to remove as that truck. I bought an engine for it out of Lancaster PA from a 91 F350 7.3 IDI that was wrecked but with about half the miles mine had. Gotta love those old mechanical diesels from back in that era, they are much simpler to work on. Those torque convertor bolts looked like a pain in the butt. I figured they were when I saw you had to use a couple of extensions to install/remove them. Mine were simpler than that and if you dropped them, the bottom of a Ford C-6 transmission has a big inspection cover so you can inspect and fish stuff like that out when you need to. Good work!
Never fun dropping bolts in the bell housing, ask Warren from Wester Truck & Tractor Repair channel. He dropped 1 when putting a transmission back in a 2017 Ford F350 Powerstroke, had to pull everything back apart cuz no way to fish the bolt out. Too bad these auto manufacturers don't put a inspection cover down there like the heavy trucks have
We're about to replace the Duramax in our work truck. Lots of shredded brass/copper in the bottom of the oil pan. I got the front differential out today, going to continue work tomorrow. We're going with a remanufactured long block. Thanks for the video and tips.
I love this content dude. No better feeling than that thing cranking right up lol also seems like everytime I do job i have everything set up nice to go smooth and not spill any fluids and by the end of it I'm standing in a 2 inch puddle of tranny fluid, oil and coolant and my tools are strung across the shop like a tornado went through it.
I feel your pain, if anyone wants you to do a engine on a 2007 Escape Hybrid laugh at them and walk away I have like 16 hours give or take in taking one out and have never had to unhook so much stuff in all my mechanic years to get a engine out
*Fantastic* job Ezra! 😀 I'm glad you found a good used engine. The donor truck looked like it had a rough life 😬 Nice to see the truck running. Take care 🙂👍
Great job Ezra, I have never done a newer type diesel engine and yes it does scare me a bit but I think I'm getting old enough now to let the young guys do it. Take care my friend looking forward to your next one
Ppl hate these llys cuz they supposedly get cooling and head gasket issues but I think they are awesome. I've done heads on one & it wasn't too bad. I think if you delete the EGR or keep it really clean (Inline filter maybe) and put a better horn on the turbo, they can be great trucks. The vvt and being 2k lbs lighter than Ford or dodge makes em feel like a sports car. You can also upgrade the oil cooler for cheap and having injectors tested never hurt.
You're a mechanical SUPERHERO! That job would overwhelm most. Me included. How many days start/finish to remove/replace that engine? Really incredible talent and great work Ezra!!!!!!
Congratulations on a job well done. That looks to have been a pretty monumental task even if you have not done this previously but your practical knowledge and skill of tackling such a task shows through clearly to me at least. I'm sure if I was asked to do this it would probably taken at least three times as long! The replacement engine seems so far quite satisfactory. Did you have any issues with the electronic parts of the vehicle eg getting the computer to accept the replacement engine at all?
Nice job, if you go to do this again, you might want to invest in a heavier crane. You looked as if you were at the limits of your cherrypicker weight limits. Nice video, thanks for sharing....
Ezra I cannot believe they’re still using those stupid side posts. My first truck was a 72 Chevy pick up back in high school and had those ridiculous terminals on those poor connection I think👍👍
For future references EZ. The LLY’s are notorious for the injector pigtails to wear loose causing truck to go into limp mode. Carry an ice pick to open up the pins in the connectors in case it does happen or have a couple of pigtails handy. It’s happened to me several times. Particular cylinder #2,7 go first. My LLY has 420k miles so just passing the info
G'day you always have something interesting on CZcams to show and I still think that you are a top technician the things that I have seen you do are incredible for one person to do. This truck is my favourite I just wished that they were sold down hear, are you going to keep the aftermarket air filter on it? Like you I'm not a fan of these type of things. Well it's looking bloody cold over there so stay safe kind regards John
Looks like a nice ride now. I know it was a low mileage engine but did you give thought to doing glow plugs or injectors while it was out being they can be a pain to do in the truck
Good video, man. I subbed your channel. You do the same kinda shit i do all day every day, i work on equipment, cars, tractors (mostly petes), and fabricate. My kinda channel right here. Cheers 🍻
I wished it only took the 18 minutes it took me to watch this LMAO. I'm doing mine right now, i got a hole in my piston the size of a golf ball. Stock truck to, but i did get it from a kid who had a tuner on it. Damn kids man.
that one kind of kicked my ass a little honestly i wouldn't be super excited to do another one. would probably go a little easier the second time though. i think this took me 2-3 days if i remember right, a 90's chevy gas engine i can r-r in a single day pretty easily.
I give you and Mark at Twinsticks a lot of respect doing all that heavy work single handed. Another good job Sir.
Wish I was smart like EZ and twinstick , both guys do amazing work .
@Pedro Limon Why do you have to be a hater. Twin Sticks admits he is not a pro at this but considering what these projects were to start with, the limit of tools he has available and working outside in the elements till recently I would say he's doing a hell of a job .

Great job. You made it look easy. I know it’s not a 15 min job for sure. You scored a good deal. Good luck with the newer ride lol.
Never thought about taking out the cooling pack like that makes things so much easier plus would absolutely save your back👍👍👍
That's a big job you did here. I did one of those Duramax replacements. Never again. I hope she runs for many years for you.
I have a lot of respect for you tackling the engine swap. I know it is a lot of work and thanks so much for sharing the process!
Once again Ezra you’ve hit a home run congratulations and keep it up
Excellent job EZrider. I really enjoy your video's.
Good job, I love watching you doing and completing these jobs, keep up the good work.
Amazing work Ezrider. Bravo.
Your the man. You are definitely a hard worker.
Looking forward to your tearing down the old engine I’ll be watching for it 👍🏻
Professor you are awesome. Great VLOG.
It always amazes me at how much you get done single handedly! Wish my guys had half your ambition and work ethic. You are a great role model. Thank you for your videos.
I agree. He makes stuff look so doable. And I know with proper tools, I would most things he does. But only with help.
You are the man! kudos to you for that skilled work. Respect.
Another great project wrapped up. Go EZ. Awesome like always.
Nicely done, sir! I think you've just saved that beautiful truck!

Good Lord. It looks like the back of a 71 series Detroit with all them pulleys. I'm glad that was a good engine. Congratulations
It's good to see you working
It’s amazing what one guy can do on his own.
You are amazing, I found one on marketplace with a blown engine . I think the problem is that you make it look so easy.
Great job Ez! You made it look easy, but I know it was not a fun job! Respect!
Always ends up looking easy in video.

Awesome video Ezra top job top man bless you and your family stay safe out there 🚛🚛🚛🚛🚛🚛🍀
And again a great job done ✅
Wish I still had my 2004.5 LLY. Best truck ever, and ran it 10 years 90% was loaded and pulling. No issues with it when I sold it.

Nice job EZ, that’s a sweet shop truck.
Great job and great video
Hell yeah. If you do a pcv reroute and egr delete you’ll be a lot more happy. Congrats man great job. And I’ve done the boot thang before.

Quite ambitious EZ...!! Can’t wait for the tear down and carnage of the old duramax.
Bad azz engine swap. Cool !
Great video 👍, nice job for one person.
Awesome keep up the good work
Hope all is well safe travels Mack
Good work!
A nice job, well done!
great job ez , we still can alot learn from you buddy
NICE, I like it a lot, sweet truck.

You made that look so easy... LOL Great Job!
it honestly kicked my ass more than it should have.
@@Ezrider359 i have a whiney power steering pump on my ram... that will probably kick my ass... LOL

It was in the 1 ton setting witch is about double what the engine weight is. It will do up to 2 tons but you loose quite a bit of reach
Ezra I cannot believe they’re still using those stupid side posts. My first truck was a 72 Chevy pick up back in high school and had those ridiculous terminals on those poor connection I think👍👍

Oh, no oil pan? Do we know if the oil pump is good? That would have been easier up in the air for sure. Good luck with that.
A+ 😎👍
No idea why they don't put a inspection hole on the transmission for the bolts
Nice work hope you're not still mad at me
Is there a reason I should mad?
Gonna try and comment on all your videos, I don’t know if it helps or not, but if it does maybe it will push it out a little bit.

I remember the first time i had an air to air boot pop off on my big truck. Sounded like a gunshot, and i damn near pissed myself
