I have done to many rebuilds to even remember. These guys are amazing. Not because they can rebuild an engine but because they can rebuild this engine from a pile of parts after they wash it and the thing run sweet thumbs up to you guys hello from Connecticut, USA.
I think they clean the parts that are still good but they do replace what has to be replaced, I also noticed that they put new Sleeves on it
Not the pistons
I think the older gentleman with the white hat is the master mechanic. Hats off to these guys. 🇺🇸
There are more elegant ways of rebuilding this motor (Checking tolerances and machining the surfaces) however, for what they had, they did a pretty good job.
There was no guy with a white hat. Lol
@@theshyguitarist They probably mean the guy that's overseeing the crankshaft and piston installation (starts at around 31:00 +).

It amazes me how these guys take engines apart with rudimentary tools along the side of the road in the dirt and remember where all the little nuts and bolts go and make that engine purr like a kitten!…I liked when the old guy came to do the reassembly with the young fellas and checked the clearance on the crank mains…teaching the young fellas!..and they all worked so hard at it!..there was no less than two guys on that engine at any given time and there was at least a half a dozen most of the time…I was glad to see they actually used a torque wrench when torquing the mains down…although I’m not sure if it would matter much because it looked like they reused the main and head bolts…anyways they did a great job!!
It's truly remarkable, isn't it? These mechanics are like wizards, working their magic with nothing but basic tools and a whole lot of skill. And seeing the older generation passing down their knowledge to the younger ones adds an extra layer of heartwarming camaraderie to the mix. Plus, their diligence in using a torque wrench shows their commitment to doing the job right, even with reused bolts. All in all, they've done an amazing job, and their dedication shines through in every purring engine they produce! 🔧🌟

This people are very intelligent, they all work together , they are a family.
just imagine if they had all the tools we had in the western world but I do not think it would make any difference and they look happy enough in fact I admire them nobody is sitting on the phone or laptop nobody is watching the clock wish we could go back to all of this
The fundamental is that these gentlemen are displaying skills which we in the west have almost completely lost following WW2.
My father was an apprentice mechanical engineer in the early 1930's. By 15yr old he was making his own white metal bearings. At 19yr old he headed up a team of eight guys at an airfield repairing military planes.
Much later on when I owned my own garages, if the my mechanics needed a special tool, rather than buy one, my father would design and make one on his lathe/in his small workshop.
These cultures where they repair instead of discarding everything makes complete sense ... Our planet DOES need saving and the west's adoration of built in, short life, enforced obsolescence is not the answer.

I'm sure it is within the tolerances of the Mercedes manual.............nah.

I am impressed, that engine sounds sweet! Well done to those men.

The common cranck bearing for opposite cylinders gives an irregular firing angle of 45-27=72 =720/10deg. This gives the typical rolling sound.
Other motors with irregular firing order: 1st Peugot/Renault V6 Europa, First Actros V6.
The 2nd Actros V6 has separate cranck bearings for each bank. The Cylinderblock and Cranck Shaft are an artwork of compactnes.
The 1st Actros V6 with irregular firing angles had an unpleasant sound. It took Daimler 2 yrs. to cast/forge a cranckshaft with separate cranck bearings for each bank.
The last Actros V8 with modified firing order (As Scania) was a sound heaven too. Sad that they are skipped for the R6-1500 world company motor.
