- In this video I show you from start to almost finish how to disassembly a 6.6L Duramax engine. The engine used in this video is an LB7 engine but is relatively the same to newer versions of the duramax. If you have any questions or comments please leave them below.

Respect from Australia for advising how many beverages are required at a minimum.
GonePro27 as another Australian I fully endorse this message
I hope one day when I can visit Australia It is just like I read about! 😀
As a mechanic myself I respect your methodical approach to stripping an engine. Very enjoyable to watch.
exactly well said
“A 5-6 beer project…” 😂
Classic! 👍🏽
Your videos went from a muck around, to a very good format overnight! I see the extra effort thats gone in, and I know how much longer this format takes to film and edit. Just wanted to let you know it hasn't gone unnoticed - thank you!
I watched the whole thing and don't even own a diesel. Well done man! always enjoy watching a tear down
Fuck yeah 32:26 minute video! The assembly/disassembly videos are awesome. Keep up the good work Wyatt.
Thank you Sir. This is the best diesel disassembly and diagnosis video on CZcams.
I'm not even really a diesel fan but I'm intrigued by mechanics and how things work. I ended up watching the whole video, well done sir.
I love videos like this. Thanks Wyatt for making it.
Hey bro. I am very new to the diesel world. So say that thanks for this video really helped me understand the LB7 motor. Thanks again!
If you keep doing vids like this you will do very well on youtube mate very knowledgeable for someone so young !!
Great video! Very detailed and I am sure this will help a lot of people for years to come.
Very awesome video my dude, your descriptive and articulate approach is refreshing. Kudos, as an LB7 owner about to do a tear down I can't thank you enough for the info you have shared! Truly a blessing, cheers with 6 beers! :-D
I like this teacher style video
Idk who the hell would thumbs down this video. Thank you for making this video. Makes me dread having to rebuild my LLY. I’ll prob watch this a few more times.
I don't know the first thing about diesels but this was a good video too start learning. Top notch work
Thanks for this. I am an old gasser. Have never owned a diesel and bought a Chev 3500 6.6 Its rather intimidating when looking in the engine compartment, this video puts me at ease , thanks again.
probably the best video of tearing down this motor I've found on here
I don't even have a car, but this is the video i want to see if i ever own something with an LB7. Loved it!, really enjoyed watching it.
Extremely helpful! I fast forwarded to my question at hand and you saved me a lot of time… Thank you!
Great video. Your content quality is getting a lot better!
This makes me respect how easy it is to work on Honda motors
erick b yeah guess what- 35+ hours just to do head gaskets on 1 of those lb7's that don't even include bottom end!! I've done 6-7 of them already.
@@ppump24valve53 bullshit lmao. Takes me 12 hours beginning to end for lb7 headgaskets with hand tools.
best LB7 disassembly video out there!
I absolutely do not like anything chevy related, however I enjoyed this video. You did a very good job. Almost like a professional tutorial. Very good job young sir.
Love watching ur in depth vids! Great to watch a guy who knows what he's doing and not just " send it" lol
doing this tomorrow for the first time thank you for making this great video
pretty creative intake on that motor. It's nuts how little room there is under the hood of newer vehicles to spread the motor out. I think some of the compact packaging is for quick install on the assembly line also. thanks for the video Wyatt I enjoyed this a lot.
I want to commend you on your video. Very informative and extremely nice to see a video without foul language that the kids can sit watch as well when they are wanting to learn about mechanics. A+++++++
Exciting stuff man can’t wait to see it finished! Hope you’re ready to tear into mine soon it’s gettin grouchy just rolled 290 yesterday
Was very helpful. Im currently doing head gaskets on my LLY and wanted to see a tear down done b4 i started. Not the same but similar. I have now almost finished putting everything back togther and has been a learning process as this is my first diesel project. Like i said very helpful thanks.
You're the man !!!! Very professional work! Thanks
Your video was very helpful thank you for a real complete video on this whole engine.. There are no videoa on upper oil pan as you showed here
Amazing how to video man!! Love the videos!
Production quality my dude. Gettin it 💯
This dude does good work

BOOSTED BOIZZZZ
Wait, Where is the BoostedBoiz Verification? Has youtube removed it?
Viewing no idea but that’s deffo them
Nice!! Thanks for this video it's different and interesting!!! Great job! you took it all the way down
Fantastic video, really helped us get to the crank shaft sensor ring (forgot what it's called) the three little Allen head bolts all fell out and wouldn't run. That's for the detail. Bill
Damn. You really know your shit. I just thought you were the goofy kid in the back of the boostedboiz videos. Respect. Subbed.
Ernesto Lugo he made boosted bois better. 100psi tested boi.!
Love the video bro. I used to do he's machinery so love me a diesel. But I love a Detroit. Nice sign 9 1/2 that's sick. Love the diesel content, keep up the great work bro
Thats amazing. Seein how diesel oil comes out i always thought a diesel would bebfull of black gunk and carbon, that motor is really clean
Your video is a life saver.
I wish I had the knowledge and nice garage to work on my 07 LBZ DuraMax!! I would do a lot of stuff that I cant afford to pay someone else!!! Like a EGR delete. And fast fuel system ect!! Good video man!
Dang ...nice job on editing this video...and Damn I can believe that tiny broken pin leads to no oil pressure and a toasted engine...great video and looking forward to the rebuild
good vid dude, keep them coming
Yes. Needed this video
Awesome job on video very informative
44 people said no ? Why ? Great information thank you amigo . I have an lly and had to do all these deletes and the wherly custom y bridge and set up and a few other minor repairs and new injectors. I started doing it with engine in truck but I have a severe OCD. And took the engine out to clean and better see what I needed to do and this video helped alot thanks again
Awesome video man, thank you
The same Jerry that was with Virginia here in Manteca california?
Great video Wyatt! !!
you did a awesome job.... i thank you !!!
Thanks for the information this should be very helpful with my lbz to lmm swap
New to Diesel world, probably one of the best tear down videos that I have seen so far. Great step by step approach, keep up the great work!
As soon as I saw the PBR in the fridge I hit the like button 😂
Awesome video!!
Excellent video!
excellent video my dude!
Badass video very helpful !!!! 👌👍👍👍👍thanks
awesome video
Very informative video. Can't wait to see more Duramax content. The pin that was broken. Is there a pin upgrade for the engine or do you have to go with the factory pin.
Great video! Nice job
Great video however I would like one on putting an LLY together starting at the long block point. I know some will say to reverse the video or process but it would be nice to have something showing each part ASSEMBLED one at a time. Nice clean video with no extra drama and straight to the point. Good job
We just finished up a bad ass LB7 pulling truck engine. We cut a key way in the crank shaft. Gets rid the bullshit pins
Can you please give me some pointers on cutting this key way in oil pump shaft & the crank? Much appreciated.
Great video!!
Great Video !
sweet video dude
Whenever I work on Isuzu engines I use a roll of masking tape and number the lines as I remove them to they go back in order. Just my tip on line install/removal
respect mate thought you where jusst another honda fan boi haha me think wrong
And so what if he was he makes power with Honda's a. Honda fam boy usually dosent boost it to 600 700 hp they slap a dart can on it and call it a day
I NEED MORE COWBELL!!!!! Great video
Great video
5-6 beer project. Last time I did that I forgot where I put a bunch of the parts! Hahahahaha!
Wow! That's sad. This guy can't even handle 5-6 beers
i lose them sober...
Toke ha!
Bud Light???? Well if you are not going to drink beer then nor will I :)
You need to pump them numbers up.
PBR!!! Highly underrated beer..
Great video man this is my first time checking out your channel and i subscribed. My question is because of the better head design on the newer engines is it possible to swap over newer heads and other supporting parts to an older engine? Thanks in advance and keep up the videos 👍
Love this vid
5-7 beers to watch... we have a duramax wizard. i will never attempt to rebuild a duramax to many bolts lol. great vid tho 👌
some GREAT INFO 👍👍👍👍
Great video man Id rebuild that thing bore out and raced ready and send it. Just Send it.
Nice job. Now for a duramax rebuild video.
Great video.
Extremely HELPFUL Video..... Thank You! Question though, How many Miles were on this DMax?? (Please keep the Great video's coming)
Well done video and excellent mechanical skills! I just did injectors on my '03 CA LB7 (with EGR) and I'm almost sorry I didn't pull the engine. Just kidding, of course. I notice your upper valve covers came right off since they can be a bear. I used a large block of wood and a heavy hammer to pop each end loose. Interesting to see all the bits beyond what I had to remove. Great job!
I had new injectors replaced and ARP studs installed on my LB7 back in April '18 and last week the crank shaft snapped. Sold the truck with blown up motor for 4k after having dumped 8k into it 😓
Where abouts in Cali do you reside, I'm here in the Modesto Stockton areas about one hour from the east bay area? The reason I ask is because I'm getting ready to tear into my LB7 real soon as my engine may have lost that pin as well. Thanks for the reply. Have a good week ahead...
@@ynotitsme I’m in Carson City. The Duramax Forum is an excellent resource.
@@stevewaclo167 thanks Steve.
After watching this, am I ever glad I bought a Cummins
As a fellow mechanic, I can appreciate just how ugly those motors really are, like you can barely see the heads... Great video man was a pleasure to watch.
Great video! You really do a nice job explaining. That's a nice engine stand. Is that homemade or did you buy that? If you bought it, where did you get it? Looking forward to more diesel content!
Bro!!! You definitely need the Milwaukee impact set!! Leaves more time for beverages.
Good info!!
now do this style video with the civic build!!! very very solid video
Great video! Is there a good engine assembly/disassembly service manual for the LLY engine? Thanks for any help you are able to give.
At the 5:20 mark there is a rubber hose that comes up from the bottom of the block to what looks like a oil sender??? The part in question is to the left of the crank sensor pigtail.
Does oil run through the Alternator bracket? Because I also noticed a plate with four or five right bolts above?
Thanks
some how its made shit here. awesome job man
My lb7 truck, first noticed the heater blowing cold air, thought it was the thermostat but checked the oil and there's coolant in the oil. Have I got a blown head gasket? I love my truck and would rather fix it but this is a big project, If a shop only charged $2500 or so I'd get it fixed but I couldn't afford much more and might try it myself. I'm worried it might be something other than a head gasket though, any advice? Thanks.
I have a 04 Lb7. Had injectors and turbo go out last year. After a fresh oil change I have normal oil pressure for about a month or two. then as the oil loses viscosity I’m guessing I lose oil pressure. when at idle it’s around 5-8 lbs and the warning starts dinging. Also after about a month it starts leaking oil out of the overflow tube like it did when the injectors went out. So any ideas on what that could be. Worn bearings? Broken pin like yours? Oil pump? Or faulty injectors
Great Video
I have an 03 LB7 with 275,000 miles, I'mon the 2nd set of injectors. Engine has a lot of blow by so im sure over the years I have washed the cylinders down and probably ruined the rings. I really want to put LLY heads on it when i pull it for a refresh. DO you have any info on this swap. I found a guy on the internet that will take your harness for an LB7 and convert it to an LLY to fit the LB7 truck. Please comment
these two wires need undone too,,, Haha... that's some funny shit... but this really is a great video and the very best i have found on the internet this guy really is one of the best ...
well crap, i'm pretty sure my oil pump needs replacing. i was hoping it would be simple, but looks like the entire front of the engine needs to come off..
i'm having oil pressure delays, and after watching this, i may have to check that pin. how do you change the pin if its broken?
These remind me of another pain in the ass that was the Perkins TV8.540M, a marinized tractor twin turbo diesel. The cooling system was a haphazard design, and required frequent service or else you had to buy expensive aluminum housings. Just changing the raw water impeller and removing the sea grass from the tube bundle heat exchangers were excruciating projects. Assembly, like this one was critically sequential, or else..
good content!! Question_ what is that tube near the cam sensor?
My Duramax oil pressure gauge just started fluctuating today. I watched the video until the end when you mentioned the oil gauge. What would you recommend my next step to be?
So which year is more desirable or less painful to the pocket if i was to purchase a used truck? Currently in the market for one 2003 duramax and up...any advice?
