  • My Winter beater car is getting on in age, but still works pretty well. The climate control unit on these things are prone to blowing bulbs and they cost a fortune at the dealership. I ordered a 5 pack online and installed them on my own for less than $15.00.

    You gotta post a pic when it’s dark of the new bulbs now !! That’s like watching your wife make homemade biscuits n gravy , then she wraps it all up and takes it to work!
    (🗣 nooooooo)

    I’ve heard that you should disconnect the battery before disconnecting the CCM wires. Otherwise it trips the airbag sensor

      Yes it does. Does not matter for driving but you need to reset the fault code then with VIDA.

      You are correct and if you don't have a scan tool with the airbag light function,it's off to the main dealer!!!

      My Harbor Freight scan tool resets SRS lights, but I’m not gonna do it cuz my XC90 has the factory built-to-break SRS module so the light is always on no matter what

    for...the...love....of GOD please disconnect your negative wire for your battery or as soon as you turn on the ignition again youll get a SRS airbag light thatll be tricky to reset, just save yourself that hassle and do it properly, disconnect your negative battery terminal

    Is 2001 V70 xc heater control panel held in some special way? The lower bolts are out and the whole thing is flipping out a little but something up top is keeping it from coming out. The top will not come free and when it is tilted it jambs on the bottom!!! I tried and tried and the top just holds firm. (Post removal addendum) I got it out! The trick I saw somewhere advised using a tool and sort of see sawing the unit by rocking it from a center point to help pop out the upper clips. It has to come straight out. So by pushing on the bottom edge while a fulcrun is under the middle it can be done this way!

    Hi. Any idea what the Alps rotary encoder is installed there for manual blower speed adjustment? It went broken in my panel, wanted to order new one, but...there is no clue nor part number on it

    Any troubleshooting methods for having changed the bulbs and they are still not working? I’d already changed them once but the replacements I got weren’t a good fit and worked themselves loose but the new once’s are locked in right but are still not working…

      You may have an issue with the entire unit. These can and do fail from time to time.

    Hi, Can you tell me where you bought the light bulbs? I have been searching the internet but haven't found any that are cheaper than 10$.

    • @CarlosGlatzos976
      @CarlosGlatzos976 Před 2 lety

      I bought some some years ago but unfortunately they were a little bit too long to fit in the corner (white sockets) and I forgot where I bought them. Maybe the ebay article number 313736997839 could fit, but I did not buy these. 14V/80mA should be the one to get and you may need to color them with blue dip paint. Or use LED altogether - you have lots of space in the back of the socket to get an resistor and led mounted. But cheaper than 10$ for a lot of 5-10 including shipping may be impossible. The original volvo part nr 30739356 (white, short bulb) or 30739358 (grey, long bulb) is 8,25€ for ONE. Damn.

      The are white with blue covers which you can slip off and install on white bulbs

      @@FarpointFarms thanks for the reply to my question. If I may...if all the lights go out is that a clear sign the whole unit is toast. When I got it out the little tiny fan had the " twitch" .with the engine running I could see the little fan blades just pulsing. As though the voltage is locking it. I dont know how else to describe it. Thanks again! And Happy New Year!

      @CarlosGlatzos976 Před 2 lety

      @@kazparzyxzpenualt8111 Don´t know if your unit is toast - the blower fan is for getting the environmental air in to measure the cabin temperature for the climate control unit. The bulbs go out independently one after another - until you can´t see any controls in the dark in the end. Don´t know if you can get the motor/blower as separate part-maybe at a volvo dealer, but the car is maybe too old for this special part to be available any longer. If the control unit is misbehaving you can have it fixed cheaply by resoldering some chip on the control board inside. You can do it yourself, there is some instructions on YT on that matter, too.

    • @kazparzyxzpenualt8111
      @kazparzyxzpenualt8111 Před 2 lety

      @@CarlosGlatzos976 thank you for your thoughts. You are correct about such an old car. The good news is an Ebay unit arrived and a few things kept the things confused and cold. But it came to life after a few cycles. The replacement seems to not have working heated seat buttons though. And this replacement also exhibits a serious lag time before "waking up" after starting the car. And shutting down. The fan always keeps blowing for about one minute after the engine and key are turned all the way off the other "new thing that happens is right after the car is started, some kind of relay or something clicks several times before calming down. Then a pause...and the climate panel lights up.
      But the other day it lit up and there was no fan! I was so disappointed...but then I hit the dashboard really hard above the glove box. My guess is there is some kind of dead spot on the motor or brushes or something. After I hit the dash the fan came to life. That may be the problem all along. So I'm wondering if a bad blower can fry a climate control panel? I've seen the videos for getting the blower out and dealing with the resistor that seems to live there. That all may be next. Like you say it is an old car. But so far thanks to Ebay some parts are still out there.
      Thanks again for your comments!
