    The reason why i prefer my m70x over my m50x is quite simply accuracy. The M70x will punch out plenty of bass for songs that were designed that way such as deep house but don't go looking for it where it's not needed as it only hinders other instruments and vocals. Also the small sound stage of the m50x means vocals are too sharp, while at first it may seem close and warm but when you listen to a song with lots of vocals and instruments going on at once it can quite messy and the m70x handles it well. At the end of the day you will need an amp for your phone to run these things and most amps come with bass boosters anyway if you want to give extra punch to certain songs but trust me you won't want it after you appreciate it. Why buy headphones that make music sound different than what it was intended?

      havent had the chance to try thesw yet so cant speak foe them but i can say that the only way to hear music as intended, is to use the samw gear as the people making it. which is often very colored.

    I just recently bought this headphone, and I'm confident enough to say that this is a very honest to goodness headphones for studio use. I use a pair of Yamaha HS8 for my studio monitor speakers, and with this headphones, I no longer have to switch from headphones to speakers that often just to check whether what I mixed on headphones is the same sounding as that on my speakers. I was so impressed that I wanna call this the "truth" headphones. PEACE!!

      Great, great input man. As a music producer myself, I agree with your thoughts. I've never been fond of mixing with headphones, as I have a solid pair of studio monitors myself, but I can see the M70x as being a trustworthy secondary source. Most other headphones are just way too hyped for professional work.

    • @manuelergcruz
      @manuelergcruz Před 8 lety +2

      Thank you very much. I 100% agree that most other headphones are way too hyped for professional work. As a Musician myself, whenever we're traveling for out of town gigs, even the smallest honest to goodness studio monitors are bulky to bring. So this headphones by Audio Technica makes my job a lot more easier. Only minor adjustments when I get home back to my home studio. God bless and more music!! :)

    Great video production quality and awesome review. I agree that this is probably too transparent for general music listening purposes, which is why I got a pair of the M70x for my home studio monitor purposes. I tried both the M50x and M40x but once I listened to the M70x, I couldn’t go back to the M40x and M50x because it’s hands down the most accurate representation.

    Great review thanks! Dont know if you´ve tried mixing music with them - and know how they translate the mix to other sources? ( not dj´ing).
    I have the M50´s - and they´re broke now - but was thinking of replacing with the M70X.
    My concern is if Im able to actually hear any bass at all on the M70x? There´s a company called Sonarworks which calibrates headphones and sell calibrated headphones - and calibrated the M50x actually becomes very good mixing cans - with the bass and all. Im just worried that you can't hear the bass good enough on the M70x good enough as a mixing tool? I do electronic music and must be able to hear the bass - even if its lying a bit.
    Would be interesting to hear your thoughts on this. Best Johny

    Hello, I am a musician who mix and produces everything from Deep Techno/EDM, to Death metal, Heavy Metal, Medieval music, Celtic and Classical music. And I am also preparing myself to start DJ:ing soon enough, and I'm looking for a good professional solid monitors that can handle it all, and wonder if i should go for the M50s or 70s? I like detail, clarity and accuracy, but also need that little bass for producing my EDM & DJing which makes me a little torn. What do you think?

    When will the video about the M40X be finished? Would you prefer a M40x or M50x for music production?
    PS: You should look into the Grado SR80e (open headphones). People seem to love them. :)

    • @oDiProductions
      @oDiProductions  Před 7 lety

      Hi, working on the M40x vid as we speak. I'd go M50x for music production and here's why: Bass. The M40x is more neutral so I guess technically that's more "ideal", but at the end of the day it's how well you know your equipment.
      And I do have a pair of those Grados! Haven't gotten a chance to review them. They have amazing open-back sound for the price, but are uncomfortable and rather fragile. I wouldn't take them outside the house lol. But great at home.

  • @ErykDante
    @ErykDante Před 8 lety +2

    Very nice and indeed very honest/accurate information! I enjoy watching your videos a lot! I have a few questions though ^^. Is the headband metal reinforced? Or is it just full plastic? And does it bother you personally that the silver plastic parts of the headphones aren't actual alluminum? Oh and if I may suggest you a headphone to review in the future, you should try the ever so populair Sennheiser HD 598. It's worth comparing with all the headphones you already have because they sound good and are very populair. They aren't 'fantastic' in any way though, just a great pair to review.

      Hey Dante! Glad to see you here. So I believe all of the main components are metal underneath the plastic (headband and the joints and stuff). And it is weird that the silver parts are plastic as well, would've felt nicer if they were some kind of metal, but may add too much weight. And the Sennheiser HD 598 is a great suggestion and will definitely be in the works VERY soon. Appreciate the comments as always man, Day 1 sub right here :P

    Owned them for a few years as my go-to I brought everywhere. ~2h casual listening a day on average
    Sound: 11/10
    Comfort: 10/10
    Durability: 4/10
    (Visual design: 10/10, but that's just subjective)
    Beautiful sound quality, beautiful sound signature unlike M50x, if you enjoy flat sound or messing around with an equalizer they are worth the cash. (only needed it for bass-centric electronic music)
    Though they sport at best 1/5th of the durability of the M40xs and M50xs, you can wear them around your neck, they'll actually handle a bit of abuse to be fair, but trip with them on your head and congratulations you are the proud owner of electronic waste.

    I record acoustic guitar (not professional) and listen to Alternative rock bands such as The Script, Daughtry,... I also listen to Alesso. Should i buy a M50x? Sorry for my bad English

    • @oDiProductions
      @oDiProductions  Před 8 lety +1

      Your english is great! So the M70x will have much higher accuracy than the M50x. It's flat response, with elite separation in the instruments and vocals. The M50x has more bass, and that's really where the comparison ends. The M50x is more fun to listen to thanks to the hyped response, but the M70x's scalpel-like accuracy is impressive in its own right.

    I've compared these with 50X's and I have to disagree with you. 70's were much more involving for me. The biggest difference were in female vocals where 50's were veiled if not muddy. &0's were crystal clear and very intimate, also much more detailed.
    Both are quite expensive here in Poland with price of 70's of 300EUR and up. 50's can be bought used for as little as 80-100EUR. New ones are at least 160EUR. And with that price difference and necessity to put an DAC/AMP to work (my Galaxy S6 is to weak for them, but Fiio E17 is perfectly fine) 70's are just to rich for my blood.
    I'm saying that with heavy heart because I think 70's are worth their price.
    P.S. Is it possible for you to compare above headphones wit Shure and AKG competition? (SRH-440/840, K271Mk2, K181DJ UE)

      Do you like the sound signature of the M50x? The M70x is almost the complete opposite, the bass is tame and overall the sound is flat but extremely precise and accurate. If you really liked your M50x then just go with those again.

      Depends, the MSR7 is better for casual listening, as it has a more exciting frequency response. The M70x really is pretty flat so it's more suited for work rather than "play" if you catch my drift

      Depend on whether you listen music or produce music. Just normal music listening, get the msr7 or m50x; if you do recording, remixing and stuff like that, the m70x will do a good job. With that super flat sound, you won't put too much or too little bass in the song BECAUSE OF the headphone.

      @zvonimirtosic6171 Před 7 lety

      That's impossible. M70X are a league above M40X. They are super-accurate; best is if you listen to both. I have spent a whole afternoon in the headphone shop, and could not find a pair that comes close to M70X's scalpel-like clarity and detail. Some hi-end open-back headphones may give some extra sound stage, which is normal for open-back design, but to include all details you hear in closed-back M70X, it is challenging. HD800 are there somewhere, but at 4x the price. M70X are a bargain at what they are.

      @CarlitoJr888 M70X are precise, analytical headphones. You will hear details in sound you never heard before. I believe you will be very happy, esp. if you find some good deal.

      As far as accuracy goes, not many headphones are as flat response as the M70x, so I would recommend it. Although if you're looking for something a little more fun with more bass punch, the M50x is fun but not as accurate. Your choice!

    I think the M40X is that type of headphone that can do anything. It's flat enough to do normal mixing and recording, but it still has just enough bass of music listening. M70X is built completely for studio uses and the M50x is more for music listening

      Same i have the M40X's for music production, we use the M50x at our church for monitoring the band and that's what there perfect for but I kinda want to try the m70x

    It really hasn't been a mixed bag though. Newer producers that drop tons of money on shit they don't really have the skills to fully use will obviously not justify the sound quality because of the steep price point. End of story

    Why are people criticizing the casual listening use of these headphones when they are very clearly marketed as having a flat response and are for studio use? That's like criticizing a motorcycle for not being good for transporting furniture.

    First: Can I ask which preamps you used? Was it your iPhone minijack output only? Any real headphone amps, or a receiver with a decent jack? A guy whose ears I respect (the Audiophiliac on CNET) said: "the treble was never harsh or grating" and he added: "Clearly, this is the sort of headphone that benefits from pairing with decent electronics" which he said after noticing significant improvements with two stand-alone headphone-amps, after using his iPhone only. Second: I am SO tired of hearing about the ATH-M50x's; they are jacked in the bass; not as badly as the complete crap Beats, but still: it's noticeable. I would suggest that the 70's have more in common with the 40's, which also have a very linear frequency "curve". The "casual music listener" you're talking about is a teenager who doesn't care about real sound quality, but only about the Beats-style "fake Oomph" you get with a boosted upper bass response. Anyone who wonders what I mean, should audition the 40's and 50's next to one another. Now, if anyone should want the cleaner, clearer sound of the 70's over the 50', but feel the need to "party it up" a bit; get an EQ function; there are software (AU Lab) as well as hardware (Schiit loki) possibilities. And if these are too expensive for you: opt for the ATH-M40x's; they best the 50's in every way but the fake way.

    • @BirdArvid
      @BirdArvid Před 4 lety

      Plus; what music did you use for your "test"? Any "real" music or just techno-pop?

  • @LannnR
    @LannnR Před 7 lety

    Not worth it for it's pirce but still good. I would recommend Ath-M50X just for the piece and sound quality isn't that much of different but if you guys like lighter headphones this will be your choice than Ath-M50X.

      I just ordered the M40X's. They are praised by most the people who tried them/compared them to the M50X. Check Z Review's video on it. I personally got to test the M50X but while music sounded great, soundstage was non excistent and comfort was sub-par.. Heres hoping the M40X's live up to the hype :P
