  • @The.JZA.
    @The.JZA. Před dnem

    Interesting that Smith made the helmet softer around the side to protect your collarbone. Motorcycle helmets have solved this issue ages ago just by having the bottom of the helmet curve up away from the collarbone and then back down at the front and rear. Take a look at the side profile of an AGV K6S for example. You can see how it doesn't just follow a straight line from the chin to the back of the head, it rises up in the middle where the helmet would hit the collarbone. So instead of making it softer, they just avoid contact altogether.

    Feels like the industry has finally turned the corner after Covid - no doubt they have been sitting on this stuff for a while, but great to see some awesome tech coming through!
    Personally it is that Nicolai that looks the most interesting at the moment - though with the new Stumpy dropping mech cable routing and that new OEM spec Sram transmission, you got to think that Shimano is close to launching something.... and not just for wireless shifting, those Saint parts are looking pretty old now too....move over AXS and Maven?

      @@petersouthernboy6327 interesting observation - but they don't have the product offering range of Shimano (not even close) - so you would need to focus in on higher end models in particular geographies (i.e. US) and also price points to see them in any dominant position - yes they dominate wireless shifting... for now.

      @petersouthernboy6327 Před 21 dnem +1

    • @tim__sadler
      @tim__sadler Před 21 dnem +1

      @petersouthernboy6327 but if you look at the global market for drivetrains Shimano is still over twice the size of Sram. They have made ground in recent years, but a long way from domination.

    The Nicolai is the only bike plausibly usable long term, and they need to engineer a mechanical pinion at 3/4 the weight and friction (to start). While I’m at it, why are e-shifters still levered and not push button?

    • @OwenBikeNerd

      Interesting insights are always welcome - I tried a Pinion gear boxes - ok quite briefly - but the friction and lightness of shifting were all impressive - and you can go from high gear to lowest in a twist - but what are you thoughts.
      Also Nicolai do the G1 with a more regular drive train - so you've got options!
      The newer SRAM AXS T-type shifter pod is a push button system - its nice - although as we featured on the Tech Show a little while back - they do offer a rocker cover.

    I wish people would drop the hip term "Acoustic Bike". Human-pedal powered bikes have nothing to do with acoustics! If anything, what Eurobike demonstrates is the increasing use of digital technologies to do the fun stuff for you... suspension tuning, ABS braking, gear shifting etc, so maybe digital bikes is a more relevant term. And when this digital stuff breaks, and it will, it will be binned as few people will be able to service the electronics. Sadly, the one thing not mentioned is the Pinion GMU.

    I think Trick Stuff is perhaps the worst run company in the Mtb industry (no small accomplishment). For as long as I have been aware of them (4 - 5 years) they have supposedly (?) been manufacturing premium brakes. Having wanted to buy a pair during this whole time I was under the impression that they are only available to a select group of (inner circle) clients & the rest of us be damned. Since I don't keep bikes for 2 years (the estimated waiting period) why would I wait since I don't know what bike I'll have when (if?) they ever arrive?
    For them to come to bike shows & display new products that will not be available to the general public is just a slap in the face to those of us who are willing to buy ridiculously priced toys. I wish them ill.

      @feedbackzaloop Před 21 dnem

      You do realise "premium" and "general public" don't go together? Besides, you can order Intend brakes now, maybe wait for less and probably get a better performer. Definetely higher wow-effect since those are newer.

    • @Tumid1
      @Tumid1 Před 20 dny

      @@feedbackzaloop" You do realise "premium" and "general public" don't go together".
      You are confusing the ability to buy & a company's restrictive sales policy. I don't see premium & general public as mutually exclusive. Most premium products don't require the purchaser to have anything more than the desire & money to buy them. Trick Stuff brakes only seem available to an exclusive clientele. If a product is expensive, but is available to anyone who can afford it..then general public applies.
      No doubt at some level because of TS's "exclusivity" Intend & others have seen an opportunity & have introduced competitive products. TS created the $ 1,000+ brake niche, & because of their foolish policy opened themselves to (superior/cheaper) competitors..ie. .worst run company.

      Most people can't afford or don't want a Maserati, but those sell too. And for a tech expo you'd expect companies to put their best foot forward in whatever category, so yeah there's gonna be some expensive stuff there. Also, I for one really am interested where gearboxes on MTBs can go, especially "acoustic", especially that it could bring maintenance down.

    Why do we need yet another ebike motor? Bosch and Shimano have rightfully earned the top spots for mountain bikes, and Bafang are in there covering the rest of the market or the potentially illegal stuff (based on jurisdiction) just fine. Every year there's been countless companies entering the market with ebike motors, but there's not a whole lot they can add that hasn't been done already. The last big development in motor technology was neodymium magnets in the 1980's, and the rest of a ebike depends on how well the sensors perform. It doesn't matter if it has more torque, a higher power output, costs less... Bosch and Shimano already have the mainstream market cornered, and both brands perform exceptionally and will be hard to beat, especially as a newcomer.
