If the oligarchs would stop destabilizing countries around the world and ripping them off along the way, perhaps they could build a prosperous society. Freedom and prosperity is the most humane form of population control. The oligarchs have and will again have massive kill offs of humanity. The banking oligarchs are luciferian ghouls.

I saw things in my younger years. Anemones, see tomatoes, a very alive Mediterranean sea... I saw the underwater before the first El Niño (in Indonesia and Malaysia) what a beautiful colorful diverse paradise, it was.
All those thing went lost, as tears in the rain...

One thing I resent over this is that 'the blame', for the want of a better expression, seems to be laid upon the consumer. Not so long ago we had brown paper bags and liquids came in a glass bottle; milk was delivered by electric powered float, and of course glass bottles were recycled.
Its actually these large corporations which changed that. I happen to think those responsible for much of the waste, plastic of course, are these large companies who will stop at nothing to make a profit. When I was growing up in the eighteens there was far less plastic used and I can't recall seeing much of it.

Ghost Dog I agree entirely with you. My formative years were the eighties, and as you point out this was a period of massive change in packaging. Now even if you are an ecologist, I believe it is IMPOSSIBLE to shop sustainably. It could be argued that the consumer didn't have to buy this stuff, but what is the alternative? Quite simply, there wasn't/isn't one.

The entire problem boils down to our relationship with this planet. We don't treat this planet like the living thing it is, we treat it as if it existed just to enable our industrial processes and provide space for our architecture and infrastructure. If the resources hidden in the ground can be sold for a tonne of money, the forest that has been growing there for thousands of years just has to go. If we want to build a motorway, we'll rather cut such an old forest in half, blocking organisms on both sides from crossing over, than go around the forest.

Just about every plastic and cotton product on earth could be replaced with a hemp based alternative. When you realise the high levels of business and finance that are involved in these two industries, it is easy to see why cannabis has been kept illegal and demonised so drastically, by many of those in power. Seriously, if there was a will as a species, we could turn this around in a year. Not only that, it would be easy, massively profitable and completely beneficial for everyone and everything living on this planet.

My daughter makes shopping bags out of old t-shirts of her own or shopping at Goodwill. She sews the bottom and cuts slits for air and cuts out sleeps for handles. She brings her own container to restaurants for to-go food and bottle for her drink where they use plastic. Socks for dusting. You can repurpose used clothing for cleaning, wearing , etc. That’s one thing among many but collectively we can all make a difference. We can & should all choose to be responsible since each of us has contributed to the problem. Much of our recycling gets sent to a third world country because the recycling companies can’t handle the amount of overflow of our own garbage plus it has to go somewhere after it is sorted. I found most companies won’t even take glass anymore because they of cost to recycle it.

A massively huge thank you to Sir David for his Love and interaction of our beautiful planet.... If the public (in every country) DO CARE about their little area, village, town, be it an suburban or rural area and surrounding countryside, then we should each as individuals prove we have woken up, and if not previously are NOW aware of the mess we've created and what the consequences of our past actions have created for all life on the planet. Let's be honest about it. The majority of us could EACH DO MORE.
And of course we should ensure that the people we vote to put into power are aware and actively committed to environmental stability before we give them our vote - because their children, grandchildren and future generations also will inherit the mess we leave them... Greed out. Love in. It's time for unity folks or as it has been said: Our destruction will arise from the beast that we mankind, has created.

Bears focus primarily on fat and meat but when those cannot be accessed they turn to fruit. Just the other day I was watching planet earth and found out even polar bears eat berries. Of course it’s best to return to meat asap because that’s the healthiest and most nutritious food. My guess is he primarily eats meat, especially since he’s part of the elite.

David Attenborough is unfortunately mistaken if he thinks the Paris climate agreement will have any measurable effect.
    1. It is voluntary
    2. There are no penalties for not keeping to it
    3. The entire agreement does not have the word "vehicles" or "automobiles" nor "mass transit" within it despite that being 20% of global emissions.
    4. The Paris agreement says there should be no warming above 1.5oC post 1750, we will have broken it by 2024.
    5. Harvard released a report where it clearly showed we have a less than 1% chance of meeting our Paris climate targets and only a 33% chance of stopping at 2oC.
    6. 20 years ago we spoke of "2oC by 2100" as being the worst case scenario. Today, 2oC is the best case scenario and we will reach it by 2050.
    7. The reason for the symptom of rapid climate change, is an anti democratic economic system called capitalism, that doubles in size over just 33yrs, requiring a doubling of energy and materials to maintain its perpetual growth.
Capitalism itself, is incompatible with solving climate change, and it is for this reason that most people on earth are still climate change deniers, because most accept the physics of climate change but not the economics driving it and the need to end the current system for survival.

While I kind of agree with a lot of that (apart from David being a buffoon), it does remain unknown what affect the accelerated rate of global warming will have on the planet. Global warming can be good for nature, but if it leads to global cooling then it might not be so good. But who knows, a glacial period might be inevitable anyway along with more extinction. It is hard to predict, if you look at a historic global temperature graph since the younger dryas period, it has been quite stable for some time. CO2 aside, do we as humans really want plastic littering the planet and industry damaging our health? Of course not, and to me that's enough of a reason to fight the fight

I too was a pessimist only a few years ago but with the enormous installations around the world of solar panels I'm starting to have some hope, more than 100 GW installed just this year, maybe 500 GW cumulative. A 10-fold increase in 8 years, if that keeps going for 8 more years then all the other power sources will only be used at night or in bad weather.

Do not be pessimistic about the environment. Everything has already been decided.
We are at stage 0.7 of stage 3.0 in human development. It is going to take another 2.3 million years to reach stage 3.0.
To reach stage 3.0, the Earth's optimum human population is 1 billion.
The United Nations Agenda 21 and Agenda 30 are plans for ecological rights to supercede human rights. The only question you should ask yourself is whether your genes will be exclusive enough, to pass down into future generations.

When trying to discuss reducing the human population of our planet people seem to jump to "murder". Why on Earth? Why not teach children that growing up and bearing children is serious - to think about NOT having children, instead of telling them that they NEED to bring more humans onto the planet!!!?? How simple an effort to teach sustainability. However at this point maybe offing a few billion humans might be the only viable solution.

If something new is introduced by the average person getting permission for it is almost nonexistent. Must go by current laws in direct opposition to an attempt to improve on the style of living that includes homes built to be off grid, etc. so how are we supposed to improve our use of power, etc. very frustrating.
