Hi, I have a great tip for you: buy the finest tea strainer you can find, put it on a jar and once the oil has cooled down, run it through the strainer and store in the fridge. Next time you wanna fry something up, add half of the used oil and half fresh oil. When done, strain again, be thorough with a silicone spatula to get all the oil off the pan. This way, you will NEVER have any oil waste! This came to my mind when watching a documentory about a crisp factory. They never have to dispose of their oil because the crisps soak up a lot of it, the fryers are big so they just keep adding what the crisps remove .
This channel deserves thousands/millions views!!!!
I agree!
I appreciate your statement about chicken or pork ‘that we used to eat’. Non-plant based folks have the illusion that we were vegan in the womb. I grew up on a farm where we killed our own beef and hogs but I was a horribly overweight and sickly kiddo. Then, I raised my sons on meat, dairy, eggs and gluten galore with no clue why they were always sickly themselves. Fast forward more than a few years, I am grateful for the experience of eating that way so I can truly appreciate the flavors of real food, the versatility of plants and how much better I, personally, feel since switching to a plant-based lifestyle. Thanks, Derek, for the amazing mouthwatering food.
Looks amazing! Thank you for sharing all of your cooking knowledge in a way we can do it at home. I am relatively new to vegan cooking and love how exciting and delicious your meals are. I'm also recently gluten and dairy free for health reasons. At 70 years old, this has been quite a voyage of change. Happy cooking 😊.
Started watching your channel for ideas for my son who is vegan, recipes are so lovely I have now been eating them, vegetarian but seriously thinking of going all in! Thank you
That is so awesome to hear, Jacqueline! You can do it!!
@@DerekSarnoChef Yes I reckon I can do it, you are making it so easy with all your fabulous recipes and your tesco range. I, along with many others thought vegan food was limited and bland, how wrong I was. Love watching your videos not just for recipes but also love your SOH. Also watched your talk at vegan camp out, very inspiring. Thank you.
Very cool! 👏🏼😍
Awesome! Veganism is far from boring in 2020. 😂
Watch "Dairy is Scary". It's only 5 minutes :)
This recipe is probably one of my all time favorites! Thank you!
Thank you for all your great videos
This channel has become my favourite cooking channel! I love it how you explain the cooking techniques as you go along which is really helpful for beginners like me
One of my favorite dishes!
Looks so good - I'll have to try this.
This looks so amazing!!! 😍🤤
This was the first ever, from scratch, vegan meal i cooked for myself 10 months ago. I could honestly eat this for every meal for the rest of my life it's so good! I love the Tesco ready meal version too!
Tried this and loved it 😍
My mouth is watering. I’m going to make this today
The Wicked ready meals in tesco always look so yummy, can't believe how well reasonably priced they are. They look so colourful and are tasty!
I love Derek, he’s so amazing and has transformed Tesco so much :) I still can’t believe it xx
Tesco is now the go to supermarket for me even though it never was before. Both Wicked and Plant Chef products are amazing!
Looks amazing 😍 Can’t wait to make. Love the cooking tips, too!
Thanks for watching and commenting! We appreciate your support!
I'm seriously in love with your recipes!
our recipes are blushing!!
Looks delicious! Thanks for the video.❤️❤️
Thanks, Sandra...you are welcome!!
Awesome!
That Buddhist "Thanka" next to your oven is just amazing 👏
We keep one's like that in our homes too.
This looks awesome, I've got some tofu in the fridge& been wondering what to make with it, thanks for the recipe👌
This looks delicious. I never thought of using togarashi in the flour mixture, I always just put it on top of cooked food but will definitely try this!
My mouth is watering. Will probably incorporate some almond flour into the mix. And.....hurry up & bring your products to the US. Thanks, Derek.
I have tried every recipe of yours that I have watched and they are all awesome. Cheers!
Wow, thank you!
superb..
Always inspiring, Derek.
Thank you!!!
I'm a new vegan and sooo glad that I have found your channel. Greeting from London, England.
Made this the other night. Absolutely fantastic. Thank you for the recipe
This looks amazing.
Tom...I'll be honest...you're going to need to try this one!
everything looks yummy.
Thanks, Andrea! Hope you give it a try!
Wheeww his knife skills 🥵🥵❤️
Just a little practice and you'll be dazzling yourself (and your friends), Josie! Thanks for watching!
Wow thanks for the channel I’m a newly turned meat eater to a vegan and u guys keep me going thanks
Derek, I just found your channel. Been watching and now the days is gone. One of the best vegan channels I have found. Nice job, can't wait to try these recipes. Wish I were back in the UK. Loved shopping at Tesco. My resident permit is good for a couple more years, anyone hiring?
❤️Wonderful Thank You❤️
This looks so amazing! I have to try this..
Thank you! Thanks for watching!
@@DerekSarnoChef I found you on the collab you did with Gaz (is it?). I was on the keto diet for nine months and it nearly killed me. I changed doctors and was put on a vegan diet back in October and have lost weight, normalized my lipid panel, lowered inflammation, etc. I'm making a split pea soup right now. There is something almost spiritual about eating plant-based foods. Anyways, I can't find those clustered mushrooms at my grocery store but I'm on the hunt! Thanks so much for great recipes :)
So excited to try this out at the weekend. Wicked Kitchen products are slowly making their way to Tesco Ireland.
Hooray! Glad to hear the products are making it to your Tesco stores...we'll keep 'em coming!
You are truly an artist! 💙
Thanks, Ruby!!
You are so welcome!!😀
A keeper!
Seriously...one of my go-to recipes. Super easy to just switch up the sauce and veggies for something different, too!
Very awesome!
Thanks!!
Thank you so much for your creations very inspiring !!!! Only question can you uy wicked products internationally (In Canada ???)
You know my heart! Looks delicious! Tip for saving money on rice flour - buy it at the Asian grocery/market! It's very fine like starch and excellent for making a crispy coating! Excellent for tempura batter too :)
Great tips, Sovery...thanks for sharing!
You have some bomb recipes. Everything looks delicious. I also like the way you explane every step. Mary's test kitchen uses a freezer method for the tofu. Idk if you have heard of it or used it
Slam Dunk, that looks amazing!
It was! I want to make it right now!!
Love all your recipes and tutorials but the gluten free ones are extra special. Thank you, from a coeliac in London x
I've been binge-watching your videos, PLEASE come to the u.s.a. with the wicked kitchen D;
We are working on it! It'll happen...
If you freeze tofu, it gets a great texture when thawed for absorbing sauces.
Yeah I was wondering how his tofu looks so dry, even when I get extra firm it's still swimming in water
I’d love to support your line of products but because I cook from scratch and most Wicked Kitchen stuff is full meals I don’t buy much, maybe some oyster mushrooms occasionally. But thanks for putting interesting vegan food in our supermarkets. Some of my first experiences of great vegan food was at the Saf restaurants in London back in the day. The 'cheese' board was an eye opener! This looks great, btw.
Oh, yes! And just in time for Chinese New Year!
Happy Year of the Rat, Derek!!! :)
Incidentally, I love the texture of my tofu when I freeze it before thawing and cooking.)
Ruthann Amarteifio It’s almost the Year of the Squirrel, which would obviously be the BYE (Best Year Ever)
@@DerekSarnoChef Squirrel? :)
Whatever----I'm for the best year ever, yes!!
Great recipe, going to try this. Been looking for good Vegan meal prep ideas...............Nobody ever shows how to re-heat the meals though, would be great to see a video on this.......especially BOT involving a microwave :-)
Oh man I just discovered you and your channel and it’s amazing!!! You make me laugh how natural and relatable you are.I have bring trying to live the vegan 🌱 life for a year. Tofu as been hard for me and your method seem so easy loving it. Where can I find your wicked products?would love to get my skills down for my life change. Binging on your videos ❤️
So glad you're giving plant-based a go, and glad we can be a bit of help for you on your journey. You can do this! If you're in the UK, you can find the Wicked Kitchen products in most Tesco stores. Thanks for watching!!
Adoro as tuas receitas e também do teu irmão, obrigada por partilharem. De Portugal.
Obrigado pelo seu apoio! Amor a Portugal!
@@DerekSarnoChef Amor a USA! Go Vegan!
Just discovered you my man, and I love it. I was just thinking the past few months that I really don’t want this vegan title because people are really divisive when it comes to titles. I just would like to choose to eat plants, thankful I found your channel. I loved lions mane when I first tried it and I haven’t tried it since. Just went and got some and wow, just as good as I remembered!
Thanks for watching!
I’m here because of Gaz. This looks great 👍 btw I’ll definitely try this out. Looks great 😋
Welcome to our channel! Thank you so much!!
looks awesome! gonna try it with the chinese bbq sauce and selfmade firecracker sauce :)
Yes! Get some firecracker in there!! 🧨🎇🔥💥
OH YUM!!!!!!
SERIOUSLY!!!
Yummy! 👍😎👍
Thanks for watching!
Love your crispy tofu! Easy to make too. What’s the best oil to use?
You are my new super hero - Tofu is my favourite vegetarian food 🤓. This looks soo delicious.
If only the Avengers had a Plant-Based Chef!! I could be like an older, less popular Hawkeye! 😂
Wicked Healthy Fear not. You certainly would not be the least popular. You are right on trend. Love the cooking👍
Your vids are dope. Glad I found you
Awesome! We are so glad you found us too!!
Yuuummmmm!
Can’t wait for you to sell your products in the US!!!
Yes! We are working on it! Thank you for the support!
Dude. Togarashi is legit my fav spice blend. I put it in my morning eggs, ramen, salad, sammich.. It'll make even your shoe taste good
Truth! 😂
Love the no kill animal plugs. With ya brother🙏🏻
😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️love
This channel is awesome. Colluded you maybe make a seasoning 101 video for beginning cooks?
Hey, thanks for saying that! And that's a great idea to do a Seasoning 101 video! What specifically would you like to see?
Wicked Healthy thanks for your genuine interest in your response. I just started to cook and one of the things I have trouble with is flavoring the food so to not taste bland. Maybe just an overview of different approaches one could take to season different foods or the different ways you gage the “what-need-more-of-What” approach?
Any substitutes for the Wicked Kitchen brand seasoning you used in the flour mix? I cannot find it online and I have not seen your products in stores in WNY. Thanks!
Derek I am obsessed with your cooking and make a lot of your recipes. Thank you, especially all the mushroom recipes. LOVE!!
I do have some family members who I have switched to a plant based diet due to heart issues and they have improved however we can’t do the frying all the time with oil. Please don’t be put off by my request for some options to all the oil frying. For this one maybe an air fryer or just move on to something else? Had to ask because this looks amazing.
I respect the chef so if it’s just not something you want to suggest options for or do recipes with less oil I would understand.
Thank you for all these great videos and the time you take explaining them.
I can't see why you wouldn't be able to use an air-fryer for those. They don't need to be browned because they will be covered in sauce anyway. You could even spray it with a bit of olive oil (or not) in the oven. Good luck :)
Definitely try the air frying (or any other technique that suits your diet/preference)...our hope is that the recipes we show and the techniques shared can be a stepping-off point for people to use at home in their cooking. One of the most beautiful things about cooking is that there are really very few rules when it comes right down to it. If it works for you and you like the way it tastes...you win! Personally, I love bold, full flavor food...so lots of black pepper and super spicy seasonings/sauces. That's obviously not for everyone, so absolutely sub/swap/cut back on anything that feels too much for you. We appreciate your words and support!!
Ahh, if only we had these products in the states. Sigh. Maybe one day!
Okay, you're my "everyday" man crush! Thank you for your channel. ❤
😂🤷🏻♂️ okay, if you say so! Thanks for watching!!
@@DerekSarnoChef 🤣🤣
Holy crap my dude this shit looks so good!!!!
I think I can speak for all of your American followers....Since we don't have Tesco here, where can we get Wicked products? I am thinking I can add a little ginger and soy sauce to a sweeter BBQ sauce to get the Chinese flavor? Love your videos!!
Please bring Wicked products to Australia! These look delicious.
Is there a recipe for the sauce to make it ourselves though?
Hey Ryan, we will work on getting the products to Australia! We don't have a written recipe for the sauce, but you can do a quick Google for a vegan Asian-style BBQ sauce, or grab a bottle of something you like from the grocery store. Thanks for watching!
U could also mix soy milk “”&”” mayonnaise to dip tofu in....
This looks sooooo delicious❣️ 😋 I prefer making a thin batter from chickpea flour and plant milk to use in place of egg/milk, then use corn starch/flour or crumbs. Soooo yum❗️ Perfect on tofu or vegan chickun... ☺️
Great ideas...thanks for sharing!!
🙏❤
Are these suitable for freezing?
Now I'm cooking from scratch and making big batches all the time lol
Were do you get your produce from. I see I all these lovely looking dishes but the local Tesco's to me has a handful of you produce and there are none of the great looking dishes like this
I would like to try their Wicked line of products but I can't find a place to order them.
This looks out of this world good and I would love to make it but i don't live in the uk and I can't get your spice mix and sauces. Can you sell your stuff in new england please?
Togarashi is just a spice mix you could make yourself, and the asian bbq you could use a recipe like this: www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/asian-barbecue-sauce-106591 but sub out the animal products!
Great suggestions, Quincycle! Luka-we're working on it! Hopefully will have the Wicked products in the US and other countries before long!
💪🏻🔥
So since i cant use corn flour is there another alternative or can i just use the rice flour?
Good video but some of us don't live in a country with tesco... some alternatives for the spice and sauce would be good
No worries! You can swap our the spice blend for something similar, like a Japanese Seven Spice or other togarashi that you can find. For the sauce, just use whatever bottled sauce or recipe you like best!
Where do you buy your spices?
Gluten free!!!! Great that way is suitable to everyone.
Looks yummy sad we do not have a Tesco in the US 😩
Hey ViVi! Don't fret...we are working on bringing the Wicked Kitchen products to the US soon! Thanks for watching!
I like to add shallots to my sautéed green beans.
Wicked Sesame Togarashi available in the states?
Omg I dropped the entire time... idk if it was the chopping skills, or the cooking but this looks amazing
😂🔪🥡🔥 Thanks, Dee!
That looks amazing!!. I do not know where to find tofu that firm....
Just look for the "extra firm"-most stores carry at least a few different styles. If you can't find any labeled as such, go ahead and give it a try with what you can! Not necessary, but it helps to have it a bit firmer when possible.
@@DerekSarnoChef Thank you😀 I am going to make it soon.
If I can't find tofu this firm I get the firmest I can find; I drain the liquid from the tofu package, then put it in a bag in the freezer without pressing it. After it freezes, I let the tofu thaw and THEN I press out the liquid (I don't have a fancy press or anything I just use a towel). I think it's something to do with the liquid expanding in the freezer, once it thaws it's easier to press it all out. It ends up firmer that way, learned it from another CZcamsr.
Another great recipe! How would you recommend storing this meal and heating it back up again? Many Thanks 😀
Tightly sealed in a container in the refrigerator, then transfer to a hot pan for a quick warm-up, stirring frequently. It'll get all mixed up, but yum!
Thanks! Appreciate the reply ⭐
Can I put these in the airfryer?
Is there a way to make that sauce at home? I don't live in the US and there's no way for me to find it
Is it possible to cook the tofu without frying? Maybe in the air fryer?
You said it’s gluten-free, but Tesco’s has wheat listed in the ingredients for the Asian style bbq sauce, so is it gluten free ?
So excited to try this, until I realized the sauce and seasoning is not in Canada. Any links for buying without 500 dollar shipping?
Don't pay for the shipping!! Until we're able to get the Wicked products into other countries, simply use reasonable (vegan) swaps. Various other styles of togarashi seasoning can be found in many grocery stores or Asian markets under names like Japanese Seven Spice or Schichimi Togarashi. The Asian-style BBQ sauce can be subbed with a bottled (vegan!) sauce of your choice, or you can whip up a quick sauce using a recipe online. Thanks for watching!
Welcome to feel how it always is for us in 🇳🇴🌱...☺️ Use your imagination and figure out alternatives and you’ll end out having a lot of fun and learning how to experiment and make your own versions of dishes. I have grown to really love cooking after I went plant based... iat is so much more fun and so much more yummy❣️
Richard O'Neil You can probably get decent substitutes at T&T or even Loblaws/ No Frills.
Are the Wicked products Kosher???
Salt and sugar content in sauce please?
What are the ingredients in the sesame togorashi? For those who can’t buy it.
Use Chinese 5 spices or any other combination ones
I'm located in Hawaii how can I get a hold of those amazing wicked spices and sauces?
Hey Nikki, unfortunately the Wicked Kitchen products are currently only available in Tesco stores in the UK, but we are actively working on bringing them to the US and other countries! In the meantime, try substituting for similar spice blends (Japanese Seven Spice is similar to our Togarashi blend) and sauces that are commonly found in your local stores. Or for the sauce, you can try whipping something up from a suitable vegan recipe online. Thanks for watching!
