Plus, I used to go on the pr0 ana forums in the 90's & 00's & we had a zero tolerance approach to perves lurking around trying to hook up with emaciated girls. There's certainly horror stories of real world 'photo shoots', but they were few & far between. Pr0 ana is bad, but the members are fully aware they're not right in the head & try to discourage wannarexics too.

@JanetSnakehole28 exactly. I’m very young so I wasn’t alive during that time but because I study psychology I know of those sites and I wish more people understood that it’s not just sick people trying to make each other sicker, but harm reduction advice and recovery was always encouraged (but not forced). One of those things where, they don’t want people to get sucked into it, but if they already have it then they don’t want them to suffer in silence and loneliness (because family and friends will never fully understand).

@biski exactly. Not looked at them in a very long time, but the original 'lifestyle not a disease', pray to Goddess Ana' stuff hasn't been a thing in years & the vibe is very much 'yo, take a calcium supplement occasionally' & 'look after your teeth'. I think it's because OG members that are still alive & still unwell are now jaded 40-somethings with life experience & feel a duty of care to younger members, so there's a Mr Miagi vibe, only it's horror stories about pitfalls of certain behaviours, warnings about certain behaviour, mythbusting/scambusting, etc. With fat acceptance, everyone is out for themselves by the looks of things.

@@trashketchum9782 In my opinion dating as a fat person can be equated to dating as a single parent. You must look for specific red flags and test the waters if the relationship gets serious. Then ascertaining whether if the romantic attraction is to you, or... Well y'know what I mean. Admirers come with the package and it's specific to a group of persons. Those same men attracted to thin women may choose to leave them if they gain weight because they no longer find them attractive and when they throw a tantrum WITHOUT offering solutions, that's a fetishist. If your man decides to argue that he doesn't like you've lost some weight and you're already a big girl, red flag. That's a fetishist. The point is to read between the lines.

Something I’ve always found “interesting” is how all the fat influencers you see publicly proclaiming how “they can do anything a thin person can do” are in their 20s or early 30s. You don’t see folks in their 40s, 50s, 60s…even late 30s out there public, active, dancing around in cute clothes saying “look how wonderful my fat life is”.
Because they’re suffering greatly, hobbling along with walkers, going to constant doctor’s appointments and may even have oxygen issues or be fully bed bound. That’s not so cute and sexy and fun on TikTok. The health issues kick in for however a life has been lived around 35. Not just obesity but all types of bad health practices. It’s absolutely unhinged to see 23 year olds who’ve yet to suffer the consequences of their terrible diet and lack of exercise condemning fat women in their late 30s for losing weight, when the health issues are coming fast and frightening. Shaming others for trying to *save their own lives* because it disturbs the delusion that you can be obese and healthy.

She has high blood pressure and diabetes, but still eats whatever she wants, making no effort to lose the weight. In fact, she is awaiting another knee replacement (implant broke due to her weight) because the surgeons won't operate until she loses weight and gets her blood pressure under control. Then everyone is all pikachu face when they abuse and kill women

    • @minngael
      @minngael Před rokem +104

@@imadeyoumad7078 yes there are definitely abusers in the bdsm/kink communities, really i'd say that people who are abusers that are not kink-identified still fetishize inflicting pain & violence. Pretty much until domestic violence became officially disapproved of & relationships were supposed to be egalitarian, women being submissive & husbands beating them was to some degree normalized...sure if a man was excessively controlling/violent, left bruises etc than he'd get some disapproval but then the rest of society would expect them to get counseling & stick together. And most importantly keep it hush hush. So yes, while I don't think BDSM is inherently abusive, you have to keep examining the cultural influences around it, psychological/emotional issues etc. It definitely shouldn't be above criticism but neither should other forms of sexuality.

My mom watched as he died and she couldn’t do anything to stop it from happening. She fell into a deep depression. She had already had issues with food, she had been overweight her whole life but after this it got 10x worse. As my brother and I were growing up she was gaining and not being able to be involved in our lives. She realized that if she continued on the path she was walking my brother and I would have to grow up without a mom and dad and she couldn’t do that to us. I’m 20 now, she started her weight loss when I was in late elementary school early middle school. She lost over 100 pounds and has kept it off for over 10 years. Due to her weight she now has blood pressure issues and heart issues that will affect her for the rest of her life. It is OK to kink shame. It is okay to shame people with sexual interests if those interests are harming their partners. It's okay to do that even if everything is consensual. Consent is not the only line between moral and immoral behavior.

It's just shedding light on how some people are willing to harm others for their own sexual satisfaction.

There is a difference between kink and fetish. What you're thinking of is kinks - behaviours that people like to engage in, but that are optional, so to speak. Fetishes are baseline, in that in many if not most cases the person in question cannot achieve sexual satisfaction without the fetish. The people that write lover letters to and get married to serial killers probably aren't doing it just for kicks. It's much deeper, and much more complex than that.

I find these studies uncompelling. Addictions are very hard to erase, but the person has to make the choice to engage in the behaviornin the first place and to continue to engage in it. Look, i wont debate with sxual papers, in a patriarchy. There are literaly studies that say that men and women is nothing but a figment of our imagination, nowadays, science can tell us that. So kinks and fétishes, whatever you want to call it, are not the same as a sxual orientation where we have to accept everything and not judge anyone because God forbid we use our judgement to understand the world: no we can't even see if the sky is blue better ask the government scientists. If they say it's red, then dang it, it's red.
These days men especially are addicted to pron. Pron use is linked to fetishes and kinks. It's deviant sx behavior caused by .... deviant sx behavior and the normalization of such behavior. Which is exactly what yiure doing and what those studies are doing. WORST CASE, keep it private. I used to read the blog of a man who became a widower at 26, when his wife who was also 26 passed away from multiple organ failure due to being over 600 pounds. I was always so disturbed by the way he would write about her, and their relationship. It was obvious that he was using and exploiting her and helping her get larger, because while they were married (2 or 3 yrs I think) she gained significantly. Then after she died, he used the situation for his own personal gain, maxing out credit cards in her name to buy toys like gaming systems and TV's and building a "Man Cave" so he put it. Of course, he's used this story for sympathy and victimhood points as well, but I was always very disgusted by his experience because clearly didn't really love her or care for her. She was a means to an end for him. Whether that was the fetish and/or financial or both. I'm not a fan, I discourage ANYONE from getting into this sick kind of co-dependence... But it's inherently not "abuse", if the "abused" person is a consenting adult CHOOSING to be "abused".
It's "abuse" if you DON'T want to eat, but your partner refuses to hear it, and keeps feeding you against your will (a pretty physically challenging thing to do)... But I doubt that's whats happening, 99% of the time...
There's no shortage of people (in relationships OR single) who are obese, and over-eat, by THEIR OWN choice. If some guy gets off on that, and helps facilitate it, that's unhealthy and mutually dysfunctional. But it's not "abuse".
Same way that if you tie up or slap your partner AGAINST her will, it's "abuse"... But if she WANTS to get tied up or spanked, it's not.
Fat people are responsible for THEIR OWN choices, just like everyone else. Even the self-destructive choices.

This isn't just an excellent video on the history of fat acceptance but arguably an excellent piece of scholarship on the topic. I think the transcript would be acceptable as an academic paper. Your time away was really well spent.
Regarding the attempts at linking fat liberation's historical origins to anti-racism, I wonder whether you'd be interested in reading and making a video on Sabrina Strings' "Fearing the Black Body: The Racial Origins of Fat Phobia". A lot of the kinds of arguments that I've seen people make about fat-phobia and racism come from this book. Although, it's worth noting that, at least from my reading, Strings was only successful in showing that Black and African cultures have tended to be more accepting of "thicc" women (but nowhere near 500+ lbs.) compared to white Europeans. Which would coincide with an interesting point I'd come across about how a reason that was given for the lack of ethnic diversity among early NAAFA members was due to how minority ethnic/racial communities were more accepting of fat and obese women, thus making less of a need or incentive for those women to join an organization like NAAFA.

Also moticed in one of the clips Funtie shows there was a bibliography including the Strings book but also one I've not seen discussed, ever: "the Belly of the Beast" which seemed to be on a similar theme. I was wondering whether to suggest either Funtie or Sam or both to have a look at it - I'm a bit curious why one is referenced by almost every fat activist while the other is not. Wonder whether that means the "beast" book is more academically honest or less so than the "fearing the black body" book?

Another reason that some “fat acceptance” people don’t want their partners to lose weight (that I believe is often overlooked) is that they are fearful that once they start losing, they will become attractive to other people.
This was the issue with my sister and her husband. He liked her being fat because he thought he was “safe” and she was “trapped”. It allowed him to treat her like crap.

It‘s so, so low-down when someone doesn’t want their partner to feel better. This literally happened to me and I wasn’t even fat. I gained 5kg due to depression, was still a totally ok weight but not super happy with it. When my depression finally started improving and I went back to the weight I was when I first met my ex, he was noticeably upset. I was beyond disgusted when I realized he valued his petty comforts over my literal basic quality of life. He truly would have preferred me to stay depressed, because it made me too weak to push back against his emotional abuse. It was all about control. In the end, I guess he was right, because I left him once I found the strength and self-respect to leave the abusive relationship.

whenever they say that we don’t react with the same disgust at very thin people that we do at very fat people - i was raised in naturalist education system and this is very easy to explain by our reasoning: let’s say a healthy weight is 100lbs (just for the sake of using an easy round number). if very thin is 75lbs, that’s a 25% difference loss. but if very fat is 400lbs, that’s a 300% gain. we’d be just as disturbed if the 100lb person LOST 300% and was still alive i assure you
