      A lot of it is me trying to understand how it all works, going by what I feel and trying to reverse engineer an explanation for the outcomes

    I was just watching a old video if yours on the Banshee titan then this popped up I first came across your videos when you had the transition patrol as I had one also I still have mine such a fun bike but I love to fantasise about something with more modern geo mullet or 29 longer chain stays higher stack and I thought you found your goldilocks in the giant but I guess there is no such thing😅 love to see you test some more bikes would be sick if you got your hands on a newer patrol I’ve had my eye on one and they have some good deals at the moment keep up the riding and videos mate love your stuff👍🏼

    Chain reaction is UK delivery only, now.
    I was looking at the horizon v2 wheels yesterday. They only had a rear with a XD freehud in the 29" left.
    The horizon pro wheel set where about £80 more!

    Good to hear from you again mate. I've got one question, where did you find the kinematics data? I've been looking everywhere and can't for the life of me find the raw data or a graph. thanks!

    Good to see you back! I'm looking forward to some more of your riding videos. I'm absolutely loving my vivid on my trek fuel ex 8 gen 6 it feels awesome. Have you ever had the bead brake on your maxxis dhr2 and dhf? I have just recently on both within 2 weeks of each other and only a month old

      @mtbtelly5522 hi there 26psi rear and 23psi front. Both times it happened bike was parked in garage I came out only to find tyre half off the rim. I had ridden the day before on the 2 occasions it has happened. Unfortunately maxxis won't warranty them. I've switched to perelli as I can't trust maxxis plus they cost me over $200. You can actually feel the break In the bead

    Also, I thought a higher leverage rate (e.g. above 3.0) meant that the spring was easier to compress at the start of the travel (compared to 2.8). In your vid, you seem to be saying it was harder to get the spring moving. MaybeI just misundertood you?? Love you vids. Thanks for posting.

    • @jamlee344
      @jamlee344 Před 5 měsíci +1

      Correct. What he's saying is incorrect. 3-1 means the axle will travel 3mm per 1mm of shock travel which would be more supple than 2.8 at the same shock settings.

    • @chrispemberton4931
      @chrispemberton4931 Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@jamlee344 I guess a bike with a starting ratio of 3+, but the same typical ending ratio (e.g. around 2.1) would be more progressive overall. It could also need a stronger spring to keep it from using too much travel too early. But then might have too much spring force at the end of the stroke. But that's more of an issue with the overall progression being too high. Not an issue with the starting rate. ????

    • @jamlee344
      @jamlee344 Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@chrispemberton4931 yes, where it finishes is definitely relevant. If it finishes at 2.4 then he will need a stronger spring then if it was more progressive and ended at 2.1.
      Perhaps that's what he's experiencing.

      You may be right I may have my values upside down. Its a tricky thing to gain an understanding of relative to the ride experience.
      Bikes with this Reign’s starting rate and the Banshee Rune 3.2 even more so, require a lighter spring rate to find your ride height and comfort zone, versus bikes with a different starting rate.
      I feel like less leverage at the start and a bit more spring rate to make up for it yields a more supple efficient beginning stroke, then the ending rate obviously designed with 20-30% progression in mind where possible to achieve.
      My 21 Slash required a 350 spring for adequate support, just barely had enough bottomout resistance, and slayed across everything. The Reign a 300 progressive, or a 325 which feels a little stiff off the top for the right support throughout. The banshee was a 297 spring with a turn of preload, perfect off the top with not enough bottomout resistance, so it had to be set up a little heavier on the hsc.
      The 300 progressive was a little stiff off the top on the banshee, would have been perfect if I was 6kg heavier.
      I’m sure theres a lot more to it than I currently understand, I’m just thinking out loud

    Bought a set of Horizon Pro Enduro wheels late last year. Dented the rear wheel in the first 2 days and I'm the same weight as you. Super disappointing with how soft the rim is. The hub is awesome though.

      @mtbtelly5522 my mate had the V2 not the pro version and they held up well. But I also did get them on special like you did so camt be too upset. Weirdly I still rate NP wheels coz I've seen them hold up to hard riding really well.

    • @chrispemberton4931
      @chrispemberton4931 Před 5 měsíci +1

      The Pro version has a different rim and hub to the V2. The Pro is lighter and probably weaker. I say the Pro is more of a trail wheelset and the V2 is Enduro/DH.

  • @nickmcgraw2004

    Hey mate, I have a coil question. Do you count preload from when the clamp first touches the top of the spring? Or do you tighten it until there’s no play/movement of the spring and then any turn after that counts as preload? Cheers

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  Před 5 měsíci +1

      For me I go a quarter turn in from the spring and the retainers touching. I count that at minimum preload, then start from there. I generally allow up to 2 full turns for tuning on any given spring. Every quarter turn is about the equivalent of 3-5psi on an air shock, give or take
