Bro reeeealy keen on your opinion on the kryptotal i have run them front and rear in dh casing no inserts for about 8 months i did like them grip wise but found them very stiff and want to deflect off everything compared to a maxxis dd or dh casing ...i recently went back to maxxis and only because of your videos decided i would try a dhf max grip dd front for the first time in like 5 years ... Credit to you dude everything you have said about the dhf is 100% true ...people laugh at me when i say i will never run an assagai again but im quicker than everyone thats laughed about it so there opinion means nothing😂...thanks again🙏

Look forward to the conti review. Only tried the krytonal rear in dh ss and was impressed.

Yeah conti's are awesome, Been running the kyrp's and argotal's, I found we can run them with lower pressure.
The casing/softness setup is odd, i would like a lighter casing with the Super soft.

The "Assegai crash" is really relatable. Happened to me 1.5 weeks ago exactly how you described. Still bleeding a bit occasionally from the wound.

Same. I broke my hand.. Hit the deck mid turn so fast I'm still wondering what went wrong. I've hit that same corner with no issues in the past with DHF.

    • @th_js

@@johnwigg724 Same! I've hit the same corner with the same speed countless times with a Magic Mary and also DHF and hasn't happened. Obviously it's easy to just blame it on the rider but there must be something going on here...
Edit: hopefully you recover soon if you haven't already!

I have just put the mota race on the front of my ebike coming from an eddy current for the winter months. So far seems good but only early days.

Thanks for sharing - Interesting review, is the 'RACE' casing 'softer' than the O.G. 'Enduro' casing you think?
Just pulled my old Mazza Enduro off the Hardtail (it loves hand-me-downs), and is well stiffer than the MG EXO+ Assegai in the garage...
Wonder if the stiff/harsh feeling you're getting through the bars could be mitigated with a 2.6" (noting the Vittoria 2.6's run slim) getting a bit more 'volume' like a Maxxis 2.5" up-front.
Thing I cannot stand with the Minnions (DHF & DHR II), is those side lugs that make them feel great just get ripped off & wear-out in no time at all.
The Assegai side knobs are a lot more resilient, both from wear & those 'muppet lines' snagging rocks etc... (like-wise the Mazza Enduro).
Chuck the Mazza Race on the rear for a bit and give us another review - it's gotta hook-up better than an Aggressor - and at least get some stretchmarks on those side knobs 🤣

Thanks for the video MTB Telly. I feel the same way about the Assegai crashes. Did you see the tyre review by vital mtb? Their series has me interested in the Vee Attack HPL.
I am currently running Assegai Maxx Grip DD / DHR 2 MaxTerra DD. However, I have a set of Super Soft Tacky Chans ready for when my Assegai is worn. Can't wait to ride the new Schwalbe tyres.

the secret i found on the contis is you need to run them 1 psi lower than maxxis. i think its bec of the casing. on my maxxis setup im running 23 front and 27 rear. now on contis im running 22 and 26 psi. grip and compliance is very very good! ive seen people run argotal's too and they are loving it on loose over hard and loam.

I’ve had a couple of assegai crashes now, I’ve lost all confidence on leaning with it.
Will give the DHF a go I think.

Ive recently gone to dhr 2 maxx grip front and dissector maxx terra rear both 2.4. I think one thing is the the dhr2 has soo much more edge bite and feels predictable to me. I can trust it way more on the edges compared to the assegai. My theory is that the DHR2 can penetrate the dirt more because it has less knobs so more pressure/weight are on them. The assegai totally has more rubber touching the ground but it may not pentrate into the dirt as much which gives that feeling of skipping on the edges. Another thought i have is that most people run a slightly wider tyre on the front compared to the back such as a 2.5 on front and 2.4 on the rear. So if both tyres are same width from same manufacturer, when leaning the bike over on the edge, the side knobs from both front and rear tyres should tecnhically edge at the same time feeling that it would have more grip or at least not give that feeling of the front about to slip. If you think about it, a 2.5 assegai when leant over would not have the side knobs contact the ground before a 2.4 DHR2 on the rear. Not sure if anyone else had had this similar thought.

    • @mtbtelly5522
      @mtbtelly5522  Před 9 měsíci

I think the assegai side knobs are just designed in a way where they’re unsupported when pushing on them and they collapse momentarily, which is the assegai crash. I agree the dhr2 for me is definitely more confident on the edges.

Nah I got a mullet combo and at the time they didn’t offer the inserts with separate wheels, only a full 27 or full 29 wheelset. I do have a Rimpact insert that I’ll talk about soon. Much to consider with tyre inserts
