    When I first got my ebike, I set my saddle height so that my feet landed squarely on the ground when stopping but I found I was getting unusual pain in my knees. After raising the saddle so my legs got nearly full extension, the knee pain disappeared. I have to be more careful when stopping but so far, so good.

    I follow the law of common sense. I wear a helmet. I bought my e-bike as a retirement gift. I enjoyed riding in the past as a kid and young adult. In my middle years I had a clunker bike for a few years that I used to ride to the train station. I also rode some with my son when he was growing up, but not much after he moved out on his own. I had learned about e-bikes, so that's what promised me to get one. No regrets. I ride often. Thanks for the ride.

    When I initially retired in 2021, I needed a hobby so I bought a couple of entry level ebikes for me and Mrs.K. After a year of getting hooked on ebiking and Russ Is Right educated, I sold off one, gave away the other and bought a MC Crusier Pro and a highly upgraded 20" step thru for the better half.
    Now that standard features and technology have significantly increased, I wanted dual batteries, extended range and more power so I bought a Wired Crusier+ that will arrive next month. My experiences have dramatically improved since I purchased 2 cheap mountain bikes from Walmart 15 years ago that I didn't ride much. Semi (mostly) retirement life and ebiking is a pretty cool lifestyle.

    Purging can be fun, Russ...and you can get a few bucks back and make someone else happy.
    I've sold TONS of things on Facebook, Nextdoor and Craigslist...and it's not as much of a pain as you think...and you can use your CZcams/marketing skills to write good copy.
    Most importantly...it sounds like that would go a long way towards making Mrs. Right happy and, what I have happily learned in my 70+ years on the planet: When the Queen is Happy...the Kingdom is Happy!! 😁

    I lost about 125 lbs in 2023, and treated myself to an ebike in September 2023, to get out and explore. Fell in love with ebiking...the Fountain of Youth. And Created a CZcams Channel to Preach about ebiking and bought a second bike and now have over 1900 miles on them. And my Channel started in November 2023, and I have over 90,000 video views. So much so that I'm thinking about moving to Amsterdam considering I'm going through a nasty divorce and what I do for a living I can do anywhere with internet access. Can't explain it .. can't understand it I'm just looking forward to getting on the bike everyday and riding 30 to 50 miles minimum per day.

      @@IMBruceECLECTIC .. It has been nearly 45 years between the time I've been on a bike. Both my grandfather and uncle were very avid bikers I didn't realize how much I missed it.
      After a year and a half being separated I'm almost back to myself (PTSD) so it's a good thing. Covert Narcissists are awful, I knew this day would come; her mom divorced three times and I'm my wife's third husband. I did the right thing and 35 years later I'm happier. The only sad thing is my daughter has NPD apparently there's a genetic component and I miss my three grandkids; narcissist love torture. Hopefully that will change after the divorce, we'll see.

    These tariffs are gonna affect older folks more, who actually need these e bikes to be able to get out like they used to. Plus they're on limited budget. Besides that, what is the purpose, to bring production back to the US? You know that will never happen, it would cost $10k for a normal e bike if it were completely made here, parts and all.

    ❤ Love your videos and your bikes.
    With regard to tariffs, tariffs are like a tax placed on an Imported item.
    The cost, depending on the item, is then trickled down to the retail market and then to the customer. So that 25% would probably translate to about a 1 or 2% increase in price.

  • @johns5504
    @johns5504 Před měsícem +1

    Only to complicate matters, some items were set at a 7.5% tariff already, discounting the full 25% we are seeing now.
    Some was completely free of tariffs, some had the 7.5% of the entire 25% from what I've read. I believe it pertained to the batteries.
    So potentially a 17.5% tariff increase on batteries at wholesale.

  • @UncleJam5624
    @UncleJam5624 Před měsícem +1

    I think the larger companies have already imported their bikes for the season, so they probably don't need to increase their price. Also if the price increase on your $2000 bike is $200 the cost of the bike would be 200/.25 = $800 would be the manufactures cost for the bike.

  • @Aspire2Cycle
    @Aspire2Cycle Před měsícem +2

    I went ahead and purchased a new e-bike because of the proposed new tariffs. I didn't get a well known brand, I went with a company that is known for making electric golf carts and ATVs and now has made e-bike. I got the e-bike on Monday and have rode it twice and love it, it's my second fat tire e-bike and I'm going out riding it here today.
    I don't think e-bike companies will be passed along the total 25% tariff, if they're smart they might split the difference so maybe you might see a 12.5% increase.

  • @DJaquithFL
    @DJaquithFL Před měsícem +4

    Tariffs according to my ChatGPT 4.0 .. _"Tariffs on imported goods, including e-bikes, are typically calculated based on the declared value of the goods at the point of entry, which is usually the wholesale price or the cost of the goods as invoiced by the supplier, plus shipping and insurance costs. The retail price is not considered in the calculation of tariffs. If you have any specific details or questions about how this might affect you, I can look into more details for you."_

    • @DJaquithFL
      @DJaquithFL Před měsícem +2

      .. I should have added most e-bikes from imported from China have a 30% to 70% premium added above wholesale. Mid-range bikes are typically 50% to 70% and cheaper are around 50% markup.

    • @DJaquithFL
      @DJaquithFL Před měsícem +2

      .. So for example a $2,000 e-bike has an approximate wholesale of $1,000 to $1,200; $1,200 * 0.25 = $300 tariff added. Keep in mind the tariff is only added to newly imported e-bikes as I recall effectively brought into the country after July 1 2024. Therefore a $2,000 e-bike shouldn't be priced at anything more than *$2,300 including the tariff cost.*

  • @MazichMusic
    @MazichMusic Před měsícem +3

    I saw something today that Rad is raising prices $100-$200. Also, I believe the tariff is on the batteries, not the entire bike. I may be wrong, but we're not going to see $2000 bikes go up to $2500.

    I've been riding my neighborhood for a couple of years now and we recently had a community gathering where we cooked and talked to each other. It turns out that about seventy percent of the people at the party knew me as the guy that rides around on an ebike in a yellow vest. That's how people started introducing me to others and they say stuff like "Oh yeah, I know you!" So I'm known in my neighborhood and didn't even know it. I know a lot of the people that walk the neighborhood as I stop and talk to them, but I didn't know so many people knew me that I haven't talked to or even seen. I know you meet people that yell at you "Russ! from Russ Is Right!", but do you meet a lot of people who stop or yell at you that don't know Russ Is Right but see you all the time just riding around the neighborhood??

    The tariff price would be on the wholesale price on import. More importantly than anything, it’s all a market, so if you don’t like the final price, don’t buy it. I’ve seen lots of crazy closeout deals, you’ll get a good deal on a bike if you watch out. Don’t plan on paying 25%+ more, or that’s what you’ll pay. George Costanza had it right, “I’ll walk out of here right now!!” if you think you’re getting a bad deal. It’s a nice to have kind of product, I could 100% not buy if I don’t like the price. If basketballs were suddenly being asked at $500, I just wouldn’t buy a basketball. I wouldn’t panic buy at $300 thinking I’m getting some deal when it should be a small fraction of that. If nobody buys, it’ll get cheaper.
    PS, I just bought an Xnito helmet. I wear full face when I go fast, but thought I could do with an upgrade for my helmet for doing store runs and stuff. I track all my rides on an app, even on store runs I sometimes blip up to 25+ briefly. I used your code, seems like a nice helmet and their replacement policy is great. I hope I never crack the helmet, but that’s a nice piece of mind. My slow speed helmet was admittedly too cheap to do much good at the speeds I often ride and my better helmet was twice what the Xnito cost, but I don’t wear it always because it’s hot or I just don’t feel like having a full face thing in my field of view riding to the train station and other slow speed rides.

    Hi Russ.
    After watching quite a few of yours an other peoples video's on E-bikes I finally took the plunge a couple months back an got a DYU King and am loving it I have to say, after a couple of rides I realised I needed a few safety items like gloves etc and have got them but find myself dithering about what kind of helmet to get, as even though my bike will just about hit 28mph at a push I don't generally go that fast like yourself but found myself wondering if a 28mph rated helmet is good enough (to buy), only if I'm going flat out an hit a stationary object, if I'm doing my usual 20mph an get hit by another vehicle (I don't plan on it but then again who does lol) that 28mph rating is going to be exceeded pretty easily, as cars ect are fairly likely to be going faster than 8mph in a collision with me, so hence my dithering with actually buying a helmet, I don't really want a full face motorcycle helmet as I like feeling of not really wearing a helmet rather than being fully enclosed in an 'shut off' from the world around me. I'm sure as I look at more I'll find one that's a good compromise. I don't know how easy it'd be but have you thought about doing a video on helmets?
    Thanks for your video's I have and still do enjoy watching almost all your video's.

    People complain that manufacturing has left the US. actually we manufacture more , with less labor. So to create American jobs we keep our foreign competition, we use tax incentives or tax the import. Foreign car producers built plants here to get around tariffs. Made in America will cost more. If you are willing to accept the Chinese standard of living. Cost can be reduced.
