    If you want a warmer, smoother less forward sound presentation with less energy on the top end then select minimum phase slow roll-off. Slow roll-off will lower the energy up top and, fast roll-off will increase treble energy and add more sparkle up top.

    So I'm 2 months into ownership of the RS150... music consumption up... Rosetube is a major part in that.. and that one word you used "fun" it is! it just wants you to use it more.. and it works.. zero issues with hdmi arc, zero connectivity issues, zero glitches. a huge wow factor to friends. Its a well sorted, great sounding piece of kit.

    I had the Rose on loan from my local dealer, i agree with you 110% on everything you said about the Rose,I also liked what you said about switching off the display enhances the sound just that little bit more. I always switch off any displays/lights as a rule of thumb. My old NAD M50 needed replacing, i had the Rose rs150b , Aria digibit, Auralic aries g2.1 and a NAD 50.2. home for testing. Based on sound only i ended up buying the NAD M50.2, Keep up the good work, all the best. :-)

    Terry, thank you for your review of the Rose 150B; it definitely seems to have set out as a dreamscape of possibilities realized in a conventional apparatus but with a wishlist of options. I LOVE my black boxes so was awesome to see your review was one and went through some of the screen options. I'd be really saddened if had been a pretty box but lacked performance, like having a Red Apple iphone and listening through their ear buds and calling it audiophile sound. But I own an Aurender and can I ever see myself trying a Rose in my current 80hr x 2wks life, and sadly no. As it was though when I had to wait for a $3000.00 CD Transport to be a well taken care of $1000 Transport using the Coaxial out to a more uodated DAC, should Roses pop up on sites like Audiogon and Canuck, I might make the leap. However, if they are like Oppo 205's might be longer. Stay well and safe, and best to you. You are a reviewer of a few whose integrity is never in doubt. And maybe a review of an Aurender some day please? Getting a lot of time in use at Audio Shows these days.

    Thanks Terry, a great review of an interesting product.
    Whilst the display looks pretty neat, in reality I would never touch it. As a roon user, why walk to the machine and get finger prints on the screen when roon controls everything you need on your tablet? Some pretty meters, but thats about it for a roon user.
    Interesting use of hdmi's, more useful than the single hdmi on my Naim Atom!
    I can see the appeal of this unit and hope it does well. That 'foward ' and lively presentation is not for me, but I apprecite it may be just what some are looking for.

    Great review of a fun product, Terry! For me..I am augmenting my streaming situation over the next couple of weeks. I am old and an “all separates" guy. The killer for this Hi Fi Rose is cost outlay with that included DAC.
    My new set-up will be Ethernet into a Pi2 Designs Mercury Streamer ($499), I2S to Denefrips Pontus II R2R DAC ($1700)…I am powering the Mercury with a good quality 12V Linear Power Supply found on eBay from China ($135) and have a short, high-quality HDMI Cable for the I2S transfer from the streamer ($125). …I have to switch to Tidal or Qobuz from Amazon Music for this streamer, tho …but I can work that out..I am going for the best purity of sound…so it will be fun to see how this turns out! There are soooo many paths we can take! 👍🏼

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  Před 2 lety

      The cost outlay is justified if your using the rose in its entirety and then later its great to be able to add other products to it if you fancy a change rather than having to replace it so it is cost justified but maybe not if you only ever want one thing it offers. Good luck with your project bob

    That's a really lovely looking streamer Terry and as usual a great review. I currently listen to Spotify via a. 4k fire stick app, which is fed to an old Chord 2qute DAC into my hifi. The sound is great considering its only 360 Kbps. I couldn't afford such a lovely streamer as this but I'm wondering if I could get Hi Res or cd quality sound through my LG tv Tidal app when connected the same way as mentioned above? As you can guess I enjoy using my TV screen as an interface.

      @PursuitPerfectSystem  Před 2 lety +1

      You might be better off looking into an affordable dedicated music streaming solution, you dont need a streaming dac, just a streamer there are loads on the market new and I am sure used. Using the TV will likely hold you back despite the initial convenience of it.

      @@PursuitPerfectSystem What music streaming solution would you recommend? I have a Denafrips Pontus II and an Audiolab 6000N that I like and think sounds better than the Bluesound Node 2i with the Pontus II. Would this be an upgrade as a music streamer or just lateral? I don’t think I’d use the DAC. I’d probably still run them into the Pontus II. I’ve been wondering if this or the Hifi Rose RS250 would be an upgrade or not.

    Recently I bought a refurbished Denon PMA-QS10 Mk2 amplifier as the first step in a major upgrade. The shop let me test it in a high-end setup using a HiFi Rose as the source. Never seen one before and I was impressed. The app is intuitive, the soundstage and sound quality are impressive (so I know the Denon has that potential too), and in addition HiFi Rose has an active online community. However, the HiFi Rose runs on a modified version of Android 7.1 and that's limiting its life because of IT security concerns. Android 7.1 is old already, support will end soon and then you end up with an unsafe device in your network with full OS capability - a perfect opportunity for hackers.

    Am confused about its ARC In & HDMI ports - is the ARC to connect a TV (if so, why would you want to do that)? What's the HDMI port for - to send audio & video to your preamp/processor and/or TV? If so, should be labeled "HDMI OUT" .
    I understand any external USB CD or DVD drive cam be connected and used to play & rip CD's (but not movies). I bought Rose's matching CD drive because of my OCD. But the USB cable it coms with does not fit the USB In's port, which my dealer said is for music (so hy does Rose's CD drive cable not fit that USB port?)..
    I installed the dongle so I could use the supplied BT remote (my 150 is not in line sight). For me, it works really well that way.

      It uses the companies own app which is called HiFi Rose and its free and you select what country internet radio you want and can listen to it

    When the DAC in that is outmoded, in roughly a fortnight, and far better sounding and featured DACs are about the cost of a bag of crisps.....has it got an optical out?
    How is this better than a Wiim or a compact laptop ,(if you like the pretty pictures) outputting to a Gustard R26 and leaving your pockets stuffed with a LOT of cash?

    • @PursuitPerfectSystem
      @PursuitPerfectSystem  Před rokem +1

      If you feel all you need is a wiim and a gustard for perfect digital audio buy that and be done. I know someone who felt the same and recently bought one of the apparent great measuring dacs and he returned it as he felt it sounded terrible so it’s not that simple despite what some say.
