    Good video, thanks. Regarding flac vs wav. I tried to rip a few cds to wav format but when playing back on the RS250a, the tracks are listed alphabetically, but when ripped to flac the tracks are in the correct order. I have had to delete the wav and re rip to flac.

    So roughly how many cds can I store on the Rose? Also can I view the artwork via my Naim app? Any help is appreciated. 👍

    Have you tried playing a gapless cd? Will it do gapless playback or add silent second between tracks? Thsnk you.

    I'm thinking of getting the RSA780 instead of the Apple Superdrive to use with my MacBook (with Bowers & Wilkins MM1 speakers).
    Do you know if it will just plug in and then when you insert a CD it will show up in Apple Music to play and eject?
    I can't stand hearing a disc spinning when listening to a CD. How quiet is this? A short video to show the noise it makes would be interesting. Thanks.

    Why do so many CDs I try and rip in this, don’t show up in whatever database they use so they’ll rip as untilted which sucks.

    Will it work with any other blueray/dvd/cd rom drive or just it this one. And what about ripping SACD (DSD files)?

    • @ripcastercouk
      @ripcastercouk  Před 4 měsíci

      I think most portable USB optical drives will most likely 'work'. SACD is not supported on the Rose Drive (it will read the standard 16bit/44.1kHz layer on dual format SACDs).

    Is it better sound quality wise to rip a CD in FLAC or WAV?

    • @ripcastercouk
      @ripcastercouk  Před rokem +1

      Both formats are Lossless, but FLAC has better metadata support (track information etc.). So FLAC is best for most modern streamers like the Rose. Some older equipment works best with WAV as it is requires less sophisticated processing on the streamer.

      @@ripcastercouk Can this connect to Windows 10 Laptop? Main purpose is to rip music to laptop's hard drive. I don't own any of HiFi Rose streamers. Also, if it does work - will toggling the "isolation mode" switch be applicable while ripping music to laptop? Thanks!

      @@michaeltsui3280 Hi, The drive is very low noise. I exect this is due to the substantial metal enslosure.

    • @LawsonsStudio

      @@stevechu8201 It can. I've tested a few different CD drives connected to a PC. The ripping is very slightly better when using the RSA780 on a Rose streamer than on a PC but, altering the metatag data is harder. When you have a lot of music it's hard to find if George Michael is under G rather than M. It's easier to correct on a PC.

    Bought a 35$ Dell CD ripper at Best Buy for my Rose 150. Works perfectly and costs 425$ less then the Rose CD ripper. It’s your money….

    Probably uses the same transport as all the cheap drives available on Amazon. Seems a lot to pay for a nice case.

  • @philstevens9914
    @philstevens9914 Před rokem

    This is a CD Ripper. So, what if you wanted to copy content from the Rose to a blank CD. Technically that is ripping right?

    • @ripcastercouk
      @ripcastercouk  Před rokem +1

      The CD drive is for CD playback or CD audio extraction (ripping) to audio files only. You cannot use the drive to write/create CDs. To create CDs from audo files (stored on the Rose or elsewhere) you would typically use a PC or Mac with suitable 'Burning'/writing software.

    • @philstevens9914
      @philstevens9914 Před rokem

      @@ripcastercouk So, in fact the manufacturer is calling this external drive a ripper and in-fact it is not. The main unit it is plugging into is the ripper if you think about it. What is being called a ripper is just an external drive. Not a cause for major debate. It just struck me as "no, this is a drive and not a ripper". Assuming of course everyone gets that a ripper is actually is a recorder.

    • @ripcastercouk
      @ripcastercouk  Před rokem

      @@philstevens9914 I think we are just talking semantics - the physical drive is certainly required for CD playback and CD ripping… and these functions also rely on the hardware and software within the main HiFi Rose unit.

    • @philstevens9914
      @philstevens9914 Před rokem

      @@ripcastercouk Is the cd drive doing the ripping or is the HDD? The answer is simple, the HiFi Rose is ripping (writing & recording) onto the HDD. This drive should NOT be called a ripper. It is simply an external read only CD drive. It's not a R/RW drive. No need to be defensive. You didn't design the product. To me, what would make sense is if you could use the player to transfer improved audio to a CD and record to it. That would have more value to me to go both ways.
