Your song and the lyrics in particular, really touched me for many different reasons. When the music is really good and the lyrics are meaningful, what else can one wish in everyday and simple happiness. But in this case there is more, much more ! The Banks of the Leopold Canal and the surrounding area for us Belgians, but also for many Canadians, has a very important significance. It stands for unforgettable sacrifice, it stands for freedom. In 1944, at those locations fierce battles were fought in which many brave Canadians lost their lives for our freedom. Something we will never forget and we’ll always remember. My uncle with Winnipeg Rifles took a round right there Oct.10, 1944. The Germans patched him up and shipped him to Stalag 11B; he broke and stayed out to come home to Alberta.
My Grandfather fought at this place with the Canadian Scots. Some how he managed to survive this bloody conflict as well as other battles during that time.Such sweet music.

They lost many in a short amount of time. 38 Canadian Scotts buried at Adegem, Canadian Ware Cemetery.
