  • Sorry, it's a long one
    ** The seller has already sent out a new cable **
    I needed a display for my upcoming RetroPie build so rather than buy something already put together, I thought I would pick up what you might describe as a kit.
    Here is the display I picked up - www.aliexpress.com/item/7-Inch...
    Here is a working config file for Raspbian Jessie - www.davidjwatts.com/youtube/Sc...
    It turns out that 'Likes' and 'Shares' actually help the channel so, if you want to, please click the thumbs up or share the video.
    I don't have a Patreon or a donate thingy, I get by fine. That said, if you are mega rich and fancy donating something I would find useful they feel free to check out my Amazon wishlist (No pressure) - www.amazon.co.uk/registry/wish...

      Great screens for DIY projects. Inspired by Ben Heck I'm interested in making a PI portable game console based on using original hardware.
      So I believe it will be a nightmare to have an HDMI signal sent through the zif cable. The build will be unavoidable tight on space, so I'm aimless on what parts to even look at! I if the screen is not a kit, I will we willing to gut the display assembly if I get everything working.
      Spolier: I want to make a battery powered handheld Sega Saturn. I can ditch the CD Drive because the Rhea and Phoebe mod works like the Dreamcast GDEmu.

    • @johndowney47
      @johndowney47 Před 7 lety

      I went to the 52pi web site and tried to calibrate the screen. You have to load and use their calibration tool from the command line, then cut and paste the results into a .conf file. When I tried that the GUI would not come up.
      I am thinking of swapping the pins around.
      I am running the Google AIY image from Magpi magazine.

  • @aaronb1138
    @aaronb1138 Před 4 lety

    There should really be clarification if this is a capacitive or resistive touch display. Aliexpress description says resistive, overlay looks resistive (matte, blocks some light), but the reviewer keeps saying capacitive. Capacitive often supports multi-point touch, resistive usually does not. Resistive works fine with insulators for stylus or gloves, so is better suited to industrial environments, though resistive elements are usually plastic, where capacitive can be glass. Pretty sure this is resistive and this can make a big difference depending on the use case and environment.

    • @DavidWatts
      @DavidWatts  Před 6 lety

      The screen actually looks great, I am struggling to find a nice case for it. The one I 3d printed is pretty rubbish and my print area is not really great enough to make use of the ones on thingiverse.

    • @pixelatedicon6579
      @pixelatedicon6579 Před 6 lety
