Lots of people are having trouble getting this device working. We go over what a correct installation involves. If you are using NOOBS, please go through the installation with a HDMI monitor first. The display will not work out of the box with a NOOBS MicroSD card. You must use a newer kernel or image that supports the Raspberry Pi Display.
Pre-requisites:
Raspberry Pi 3/2/B+/A+: amzn.to/1TkQQe3
Good 5V2A Power Supply: amzn.to/1V7uuOv
MicroSD Card with Raspbian (Not NOOBS) Installed: amzn.to/1V7uzlg
Screw Driver - Věda a technologie
I'm so glad I found this video, nobody else mentioned anywhere that the OS had to be preinstalled in order for the display to work. . which does really make sense but since I saw no reaction from the display at all(never lit up, flickered, zero signs of life) I was about 10 minutes away from setting up a replacement unit thinking mine arrived broken. I will make sure that I try it with the TV I have running my original RPi before I jump the gun. another odd thing, in all the videos of people setting up their official RPi 7" touch screen they all arive in pieces. however mine showed up completely assembled other than the dsi ribbon and the jumper wires. It is most likely just a newer packaging but figured I would mention it here also.
Hi John,
The packaging for this product has been updated to decrease the amount of user effort involved.
Hope this helps.
LoveRPi just figured I would mention it just in case it wasn't normal I would rather find out I managed to order the only bootleg kit in existence sooner than later lol.
Great video, thanks. Is there any hint when you have a HAT, which takes the pins you attach power to. Can the monitor be powered with the USB port it has from PI?
I just bought one new and thought it was a return. Thank you for mentioning it.
same ngl
Hello, how do you lower the brightness of the touch screen?
can you use hifiberry overlay and this screen together ?
Question, I got the raspberry pi 4 B with this touch screen display and I have been using the USB-C to power it and its been working fine, is there a reason I shouldn't use it?
What are the other two wires used for?
I had the ribbon cable upsidedown, thank you
will this work with raspberry pi 4 model b
I am so confused on my raspberry pi. I would like to see if you can fix it for me, if I send it to you.
What cable am I plugin in the short one or long one plus my cable won't even slide.in
Can it work with Raspberry Pi B?
Can it be used in some other Devices? like laptop?
I have this display but it will never go to 800x 400 I put up with that for a while . After doing a sudo apt-get gpupdate the screen seem to have streak vertically on the display anybody know how to fix these issues. I searched the internet no one really has a answer. It should no be called the official raspberry pi monitor 800x480 if it doesn't even natively have the settings to go there. thanks
So if im powering the screen from the pi and running a fan how do i do that?
Is it easy to download ethhash on it really trying to run etherium mine on it any help ?
Super useful video! Thanks a lot. =)
My 7" touch screen also came with two extra jumper wires. What would you use those for if we are only connecting 5v+ plus ground to the RP3B+?
Probably should edit the video and remove the incorrect installation of the ribbon cable.
I kind of jumped the gun and almost turned the power on... but when I saw the cable was inside out and you were redoing it, I actually broke one of those flimsy black tabs on the TS display.. and its not easy to get it to hold well.
Others might actually think they got the cable correct (which is possibly the #2 reason they search for a vid like this)... and then turn it on and their board is gonna short circuit.
i have a problem with that the cable is annoying => i can´t straighten the pi
I have a questions: What are the 4 jumper wires used for? When I installed my 7 inch touchscreen display to my SmartiPi case, it works without the jumper wires. Is it necessary to connect it?
Dude
How to connect that display directly to a PC? Without raspberry pi
Works great. Thank you.
7" screen link doesnt work :(
Is there a reason why using a usb splitter to connect both boards to power wouldn't work? I am building a car computer using crankshaft and would prefer that to having to pin it if possible.
It works just fine, I'm using exactly that.
Great video!
JE TROUVE CETTE VIDÉO SUPER ENRICHISSANTE
why keep a mistake in the video? Thanks for showing me how to do it wrong first. Get an editing program for future videos.
The kit has two more wires what are these for? I have got the red and black ones plugged in but there is a green wire and yellow one.
yup im with you
thx so muchhh i ry needed this!
Can i use this as a monitor for my pc?
No
Use separate USB power instead of leads if your screen isn't working.... to ensure the screen is working properly.
Now it just needs to power some speakers and conrol inputs.
Thx! Maybe edit out the incorrect ribbon cable install.. shorter vid, fewer curses.
i followed all the steps correctly .. even my rsapberry Pi is 'ON'... but the display screen is not turning 'ON'. can anyone help me please ?
Did you connect the red and black wires to the display?
My touch screen stays black
ayyy same lmao
Nice to see, however, I bought a case from the foundation. Sadly, it's upside down. Ree.

From the SCP foundation?
How do you rotate the screen?
/boot/config.txt
edit the following:
lcd_rotate=2
Make sure it's set to 2 and is not commented out
Just editing Ayyub's comment a little for total newbies:
1. Open terminal
2. Write: sudo nano /boot/config.txt
3. Hit enter
4. If "lcd_rotate=" exists somewhere, make sure it's "=2" and doesn't have a "#" infront, otherwise change it to 2 and remove the hashtag if there's one. If it doesn't exit, scroll down to the bottom and add this on a new line: lcd_rotate=2
5. Hit Ctrl + X and then hit "Y" and finally Enter
6. Reboot your Raspberry
(If you want it to be in portrait mode, change it to =1 or =3 depending on wich side you want as up/down))
@@Aerox90 Be careful. The latest version of Raspian has a section for the Pi 4 near the bottom of the config.txt file. Be sure you are not adding the new line to that section unless of course you are using a Pi 4. Best to place it just before the [pi4] line.
To be able to edit that file on your pi run terminal command `sudo mousepad /boot/config.txt` and then you will have permissions to save the file after adding the lcd_rotate line
Next time you make a mistake, make a note at that time in the video so that hundreds of people don't make the exact same mistake :)
Yes, please, this was incredibly annoying!
Hi, is it possible to have 2 displays connected to the same pi?
No
tnx a l ot;x
Don't lay the face of the display on anything except protector material, you don't want to be twisting it around on a unprotected surface
This guy needs to remake the video. It's like his first time installing it too. jeez
Uuuuuuuummmmm
wrong side ?= than delete the video m-ron
Flimsy scotchtape-and-aluminum-foil cables. I had these in my ASUS notebook. They literally fell apart. I am not going to buy this display.
Don't buy any LCD display then because they are all like that.
