Possibly the greatest cold open in RCR history.
Definitely. That was great.
I was thinking: I missed a few episodes, what the heck happened? It's definitely awesome though.
@Boosted Benis I had to do a double take, because at first glance it does look like the start of GTA. RCR Never Ever fails to please.
@@AngryCatMan1982 I thought it was an advert and reflexively started tapping the bottom of the screen.
RCR? How about the best opening on CZcams!!!
I'm fully convinced that the intro isn't scripted and that it's the way Mr. Regular acts naturally

Well, I'm french, and it should actually be pronounced "Peugeot". You're welcome.
Thank you. I was hoping to find someone French who could clear this up.
Pronounce the same as the bicycle right?
MrRenardD ... and its spelling is not “Peugoet” as in his main title at 1:15
WrONG! it's pronounced "Peugeot!"!
Weirdly most Germans mispronounce it as "Püjo" instead of "Pöjo"

That GTA opening makes me sad that I can only give a single upward thumb.
If you flip your screen upside down you get another thumb up button!
The only acceptable mods to a 205 gti is really good tyres, a good and subtle security system, a limited slip diff, and independent throttle bodies.

If you believe this you've never owned a 205 GTI 😁There's so much wrong with them as standard, it's insane.
@@lutherblissett9070 No
@Luther Blissett Rubbish.
And a set of Speedline SL434's.
I had a 205 GTI with the 1.9 engine. I upgraded the suspension, put a strut bar on it and it was like a street legal go kart. I loved that car.
I had a 2003 Dodge Spirit with a 3 speed auto and 2.5l 4 banger.... it was plenty spacious even with 4 people and I'm a big guy at 6 foot 1 and 300 pounds. But that was the most go kart of a car I've ever owned. If I remember right it was 120hp and like 173 ft pounds torque. It moved from 1st through 2nd alright but after 60mph it was a long wind.....wich was fine for a daily. Actually I had always had a v8 or v6 classic- 66 mustang, 76 Camaro RS and a 74 Challenger, but after getting me to work and back 3 days in a row on the low fuel light I was sold on 4 bangers for daily driving.

As a Euro: "FINALLY a car I know.... Because my DAAAAAAAAAAD used to drive one."
My neighbour had one when I was a kid. White with the blue, yellow and red stripes on the front and back. The white yellowed because he parked it outside. We lived in a small village out in the countryside and one of my chores was to fetch milk every other day from the farmer next door and every time I did I walked past that little GTI. To me it was just the coolest car ever growing up.
My dad actually did used to have one too

Some cars look of their time. The 205, at least externally, has a timeless design imo.
It was actually styled by the Italians its one of many many pininfarina designs I've had 3 in my lifetime and will always have the fondest memories of this classic car
The 205 looks its age. Espesh when you compare it to the 200 series cars that followed they make it look more dated then a calender in the bin.
@@stuctr No. It was styled by Peugeot's own design team, managed by Gerard Welter. Pininfarina was only involved in the bodywork adaptation and production of the 205 CJ ant CTI cabriolet (convertible).
It definitely looks like an '80s car

Same two things, insurance and emissions, killed the muscle car in America in the early 70's.
@@seed_drill7135 The UK is nowhere near as bad as the US for emissions. You'll pay more car tax for bad emissions but it's not like you're outright banned from it, people are still making 2-stroke bikes for the UK market although i don't know why since 4 strokes are better in nearly every way for the road
@@mrcaboosevg6089 most U.S. counties have no emissions regulations. I could go full straight without issues.
@Oscar Ljungberg Insurance companies were already raising rates through the roof and the emissions standards were a phase in. '66 first national smog controls, '72 began reducing lead in gasoline, which necessitated lowering compression, '75 catalytic converters. The muscle car era is generally considered to have ended with the '71 model year, because, after that, across the board, the same engines produced less horsepower.
I once read that insurance premiums for some cars were as high as a car payment.
Most performance cars lingered on through '74, but they aren't nearly as fast or powerful as earlier versions ('74 Trans AM excepted). The Arab Oil Embargo was in '73 and CAFE standards began in '75, thus officially ushering in the malaise era.
@InfiniteMushroom All that extra weight from the bumpers smoothed out the ride.

"some cars are okay left well enough alone" I feel like the US only like modding cars because domestic cars were so crap for so long
MrcabooseVG ever seen the Japanese tuning scene?
We modify our cars because for most people their car is an extension of their personality. And just like a person gets tattoos, piercings, works out or buys certain clothes- we like making our cars unique. Some just care about looks, others speed it even how easy they are to work on. Plus I don't know European laws but I imagine modifying vehicles is more closely regulated.
@@travisgartside409 I can only speak for UK but it sort of seems like just not the common thing to do, a few people have a bunch of stuff done but seems like we don’t think body kits are cool so if we modify cars we like to not have it known idk why
@@tuttosalve8352 Is that not just because you gotta declare mods which makes insurance a hell, ive got a mate in Scotland who told me these things, and it blew my mind, i live in Finland where its still fairly lax when it comes to modifying your cars. I think its just the fact that different european countries have different way of making cars road legal, some minor mods that might sound totally stupid from an american perspective might make a car not road legal. Im not an expert but i try and keep an ear on the ground when it comes to people and their car culture in their homeland.

Hey dad, thanks for the video and the copy of the new GTA 6.
Man, "GTA 6: Kutztown Calamity" has great graphics, but it's got some animation issues.
The fact that you pronounced "Poojeaut" and "Purrgeau" makes me wanna start calling the brand those names now
Epic beginning. Truly captured the GTA feel without being overdone.
The death of the small hot hatch GTI is a lie, in the 90's whe had 306gti (167hp), golf VR6 (192), clio williams (150), Saxo VTS (120 but 6.9s to 62mph), to name a few. Don't belive everything that Clarkson says.
But those were not small or nimble anymore. They didn't feel like race carts on wheels. A Golf VR6 for example is a terminally understeering crap mobile. It is nowhere near as good to drive as a Peugeot 205 GTI. Not even in the same galaxy.
Compared to the hot hatches of the 80s, those you mentioned are much heavier, so the charm of the light nimbleness kind of wore off by then.
I'm not a fanboy of his but I think your comment actually proves Clarkson right. The 205 gti was less than 900kg and used very little power to achieve pretty impressive performance. All of the cars you mentioned are in a completely different weight class, apart from the saxo vts. Which only did 0-60 in 6.9s in its owners' dreams - the actual figure is 7.6s. Also the clio williams was a very limited edition, far rarer than the 205 gti.
They gain like 2-300 kgs. They are still fun cars but very different from the Golf 2 and 205gti.
106 Rallye, 172 Cup, 182 Trophy, Mini Cooper S, Civic Type R, then the Clio 197 and 200...After that you're into stuff that's too heavy for my driving taste. For me having driven a lot of the above, the hottest hatches were around the mid 2000s, the concept was the same but suspension technology was better and other enhancements like variable valve timing made the whole package more effective.
I track a 182 Trophy, it weighs about the same as hatches from the 90s, makes a bit more power and has much more sophisticated suspension. For me, it's the sweet spot. Everybody is different though. That's what makes cars fun, and hot hatches are some of the most fun cars ever conceived.

@Pedro DLR I know. I had two 106s before I bought the 205. The first one was a very basic 1.0 from 1993, the second one was a 1.1 Sport from 2001. They paved the way for me to buy my 205 1.4
Still feeling the wrath of the insurance hike caused by 80s and 90s hot hatches
As the owner of a 1991 Peugeot 405 with a XU5 engine (XU52C to be exact), a popular swap option for non-GTI 205s, you were really really accurate in describing what it's like to drive these: It does turn you into that man child that accelerates hard, lets it go down in speed a bit, ACCELERATES HARD AGAIN... ALL THE TIME! The engine really doesn't give you the feel for how high in the rev range it is and it does make you forget to change gears and the accelerator pedal really doesn't have any travel at all! I loved how spot on you were and thank you for doing these cars some justice
This is one of the best reviews I've seen in general!
And besides the hyperbole, yes, that is a perfect description of driving a 205, especially the shifter part. Drove a friend's 205 Generation that he turned into a GTI replica, such an experience!

it makes me so happy when you reference all these places right off the mainline (one time you made a joke about Wayne too)

Not just entertaining, very informative. You done your research
I own a 1990 Peugeot 205 GTI and the driving position is not like that haha. The cars are amazing. I’m 21 and owned mine for 2 years and it’s great. It’s weird watching an American talk about a car that has not been in America.
The bit about the cars been stolen a lot isn’t true. The Cossie was the car that got the insurance premiums through the roof as it could practically out run police. It got to the point when people bought the cossie new they couldn’t insure them as it was more then the cars worth. The 205 GTi didn’t finish in 1992 either. The last one was 1994. The death of the hot hatches was when all the car companies began to mature and start building family and economical cars. That’s what killed the hot hatch game. They’ve been trying to revive it ever since.
Apart from that these cars are great. Good acceleration for the age. Still get peoples attention and handle like go karts.
How muc u pay for insurance for this??
205GTI was murdered like a Golf GTI mk2 not by gov but greedy PSA and VAG...
