About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The Museum of Classic Chicago Television's primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s and early 80s, primarily) recorded off of any and all Chicago TV channels; footage which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical purposes. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to DVD, and to view more of the 4,600+ (and counting) video clips available for viewing in our online archive, please visit us at:

I remember Al Lerner's Wrestling Report on WSNS Channel 44 as a kid
Channel 44 wrestling is one of my earliest TV memories.
That had to be fantastic to be there.
July 20th 1974 was also the debut of The Sheik in the WWA in Indianapolis
And THAT was a BIG DEAL. Chicagoland became fantasy island for this Milwaukee native watching Luce on snowy tv
Great to see Al Lernera!
One of the mentioned wrestlers, Paul Perschmann, later wrestled as Playboy Buddy Rose.
Wow, I remember all those names from my childhood! Only name missing is Pompero Firpo. I thought that hair was too amazing.
Samantha F I always loved Firpo
@@MrChristopherHaas We just lost him earlier this year, 89 years old.
LOVED how you typed that Samantha .....as most fans know of Pampero Firpo calling himself "The Missing Link" for many years!
Channel 44 ROCKED. I didn't know about the reporter though.
Christopher Haas Al Lerner. He was ok. But that's POOT skee, not Putz key, as he mispronounced it
@@Staszu13 Al Lerner was great and did it all in a straight face. He and Check Coppock were the young guns with wrestling and Roller Games
@@Staszu13 And it's not "ee-vahn". The guy was not from Spain. #PolishPower
@@hf6150 Yes he was legit Polish though his true name was Josef Bednarski. Great wrestler
@@jayblackburn6011 I remember Coppock wore a lot of hats then: sports announcer at channel 32, public address announcer for the WHA Chicago Cougars, roller derby announcer.
Promotions feared Robinson carrying a worlds belt because he'd never give it up, plus he could hurt people.
VolumedMusicMan word has it sgt slaughter stretch billy, sheik, and Chris
He was also a serious alcoholic with no charisma. He was great to bring in as an attraction, but he wasn't someone that people wanted to see all the time.
He was also really bad in working with lesser skilled wrestlers.
@@Jim-Tuner which makes sense for him to have some of his best matches against Gagne and Inoki.
Verne Gagne and Billy Robinson had a dust up in the dressing room one time and Verne took out Robinson.
Another time Verne Gagne and Dick the Bruiser had a skirmish that resulted in Verne cleaning Bruisers clock.
Verne was one tough dude.
@@danburnette7674 this is interesting. You never hear of these stories because of MMA marks favoring Billy Robinson placing him on a pedestal all by himself.
He's got a basil cell just above his collar. Its a common form of skin cancer. I just had one removed six weeks ago.
I wish life was like this again but we also have CZcams
Whoa! I don't remember Robinson winning the strap.
Me neither must have been over turned
Gagne's foot was on the rope in the second fall. The title was held up until a rematch in Chicago a while later.
@@Jim-Tuner always a catch with Verne. Mr. Robinson would have made for a very good, believable, exciting champ. Thanks for the intel
Verne Gagne held the title from 68-75 when nick bockwinkel beat him…what is this guy talking about Billy Robinson?
@@coronaweeks4577 thats exactly what i always understood.
a sad day for wrestling
The reporter pronounced Ivan Putski's first name wrong.
No. That's how they were referring to Putski at the time. He was doing the Mighty Igor gimmick (dressing like him), so it made him sound more authentically Polish.
EEE-von or EYE-van... Jesse Ventura called him "Pa-doo-skee".
Larry Hiemi was the future Lars Anderson…
The greatest wrestling ever! Moose Cholak ..Baron von Rashka..Mitsu Arakowa🥋..memories
So funny reporting like it's actually competitive.
The great Al Learner!
Sure enough, upon further review, Gange kept the strap. Why didn't they go to a 3rd fall though?
Gange died with that belt. Always the same ol' BS, somehow he always got that belt back.
So what "Dusty" finish did old fart Verne use to get the title back sense he didn't lose the title until losing to Bockwinkel in November of '75
+funkyflashman-A Google search says Gagne lost by disqualification and so didn't lose the belt. Maybe Lerner made a mistake here? Maybe the disqualifying event wasn't "discovered" til later?
"Verne would never make him (Robinson) champion. Verne just didn't trust him" according to Ric Flair.
I think Verne had his foot over the bottom rope for the second fall.
torchkit why didn't they go to a third fall then?
I guess a 3rd fall wasn't in the script.
LOL. Ya think....all I know is that you tube is the greatest thing ever and people who post things like this should move to my city so I can be their campaign manager for mayorship
