I was working by his house and got to meet him. A great guy with a lovely wife. Maybe 30 years ago and he had a hard time walking but gave me a signed autograph. A real class guy who didn't like what the sport turned into, mainly the peds.
Yukon moose Cholak was a All Navy Boxing Champion in 1952. A legitimate tough guy, yet Moose was Tops with anybody who came his way! One of the All Time Greats in Chicago Professional Wrestling!
Used to play football in Calumet Park on the East side. One Sunday morning the game was stopped and the chant, "moose moose" was shouted as Cholak walked across the field.
Yukon Moose Cholak just doesn't look the same without that giant moose head he used to sometimes wear. He was well over six foot and that Moose head (with him looking out the neck) was probably three feet taller. Bob Luce was one of the all time great wrestling guys.
Moose used to come by the family owned restaurant I worked in on the southeast side of Chicago, kind of like a white castle with the sliders but with many other items including a Monster burger, breakfast and gyros, yes it was Greek owned He ordered lunch for him and his mom. Oh this was back in 1978-79. He was obviously ba large man and HE called me bug guy though I was probably around 175lbs!
When I last visited Chicago, I jumped into the car I bought from Ben's Auto Sales. Because they had bent over backwards to give me a great deal, I had money left over to buy some dinner. I drove to One Stop where I bought a barrel of beer and a case of ribs!

Moose owned a bar way on the South Side too - more accurately the Southeast part of Chicago

He was also an engineer for the city, if I remember right.
My dad grew up on the south east side. When I was a kid he took me over to moose's bar. Great memories
