Part of the British rock band UFO' Strangers In The Night, considered by many to be the greatest live album ever recorded, was recorded at Chicago's International Amphitheatre on October 13th 1978. I was there, and it's a great memory for me, and another great moment in Chicago history.

I was there also if I remember correctly. Judas Priest opened. I was in 8th grade. 58 now.

@Rich Johnson That was the next year on May 4th 1979 when Judas Priest and Off Broadway opened for UFO at the Amphitheater. In 1978 the opening bands were Molly Hatchet, who were on their first national tour, and are thanked in the liner notes of SITN, and a band called City Boy, who were booed off the stage. I've never been able to figure out why, City Boy were on the same bill with UFO and Molly Hatchet, but a lot of those mismatched concerts happened back in that time.

@@1Phepsi Ha, all these years I thought I was at the event that recorded the live album! :-) That's cool. I have great memory of seeing just the band's equipment on stage and rockin the place. No big stage props needed. The rawness was memorable for me.

@Rich Johnson That's true, they didn't need pyrotechnics and elaborate props. They had great songs and musicianship.

As horse crazy teenagers we lived for the annual Chicago International Livestock Exposition and Horse Show. Each evening the show opened with a Parade of Prize Winning Cattle led by the Chicago Kilty Band of Bagpipers. Fabulous! We never missed it. After that there was always a jumping class followed by classes for the flashy American Saddlebred Horse. We saw so many famous horses! I'll never forget seeing Wing Commamder make his final appearance as a show horse. He has since become one of the most influential Saddlebred sires of all time. Wonderful memories!

Johnny Garrett was the last person to both perform live and be photographed at the International Amphitheater in the summer of 1999 and has pictures from that day .

Hey John, you have a well-timed life. I write a little bit about Chicago. Would you happen to remember any details about the way the venue itself looked or the vibe of the crowd when you were at that show?

@@davec3901 hey Dave, I was 12 years old and that was my first concert. It was amazing . The crowd was loud excited! The opening acts were Leslie West Mountain and MOTT THE HOOPLE. The venue to me seem to be rundown, wooden seats, but for 12 year old I didn’t care the sound was very good My opinion better than the Chicago stadium. If it was there today, I go back to see a concert. I really miss that place

It was also the site of the chaotic 1968 Democratic Convention.
