  • This is my 3D printed breech for use in a paintball/airsoft Nerf football "rocket" launcher. I made it in a MarkerBot Replicator 2, and it took about 3 hours to print.

Aaand I just realized that this video did not upload correctly. It cuts off the last few seconds. Dang it.

Keep it up my friend, this is what I am developing as well. However I think you should reconsider the truck exhaust cap as a reload mechanism, the trigger can be designed to be a two stage trigger, light pull to fire, harder to drop the breach. If you spring load the arm of the exhaust cap to pull it open it would work well. You do not seem to be getting the best of compression on the round, you should try to lengthen the barrel. What are you using as a release valve? Try using a sprinkler valve, they are about $20 and run on a 9 volt. Check out Grant Thompson on youtube, he made an easy to follow video on the subject. A sprinkler valve allows for a more consistent release of pressure, which might allow you to design a sighting system, instead of just aiming with the barrel minuteman style.
The biggest problem I have had with my design was trying to make the whole launcher linear, incorporating a bolt operating system. But since my design is destined for a turret of a tank, it makes no difference.
Keep up the great work, and thanks for the help!

+Sam “Flip” McKay Thanks. I am using a pneumatic sprinkler valve, although of a brand that I can't seem to find in any hardware store. I considered using electronic opening, but I really don't want to have to worry about running out of batteries on the field.

You can swap out the 9 volt battery for a standard airsoft battery, if you solder the tamiya connections.

Hey Magnocain, have you done any more adjustments to your launcher lately?

+Sam “Flip” McKay Nope. This is a summer-only project for me.

Looking forward to next summer! I found someone you may want to talk to though. He is on the thunderstruck paintball scenario team his name is Q and he built a Mk19.
