    Fun video! I did a silly loop back in Gen 8 that similarly flooded the screen in addition to the 20-minute timer setup, but sadly the replay is gone due to the replay database goof. My focus was always turn 1 strategies, but it's fun to see the setup involved with this!
    Another fun fact - there technically are setups where you can generate *potentially infinite* messages in one turn. In certain OMs, you're allowed to have multiple Abilities at the same time. By combining Emergency Exit and Regenerator on a Pokemon with a low amount of HP, you can have Regenerator deal the exact amount of damage hazards dealt, which would trigger Emergency Exit and force the switchout with Regenerator back into the other Emergency Exit Regenerator Pokemon, allowing you to switch endlessly forever. An example of this is 16 HP Beldum with Stealth Rock up and 3 layers of Spikes; Beldum recovers 5 HP from Regenerator, and takes 1 damage from Stealth Rock and 4 damage from Spikes, resulting in a potentially infinite loop from switching between both Beldum forever.

      ​@@KingTheLuck maybe some sort of double battle combination of emergency exit + regenerator + hospitality + entry hazards
      basically if a pokemon hp drops below half from hazards = they get swapped out automatically
      regenerator will trigger and heal 33% hp but then when it swaps in ally pokemon will get healed by 25% hp. so the trick is to get a constantly loop between them. issue now is making it so pokemon in a team have just enough hp that when swapped in they lose enough from hazards and can be replaced while also healing enough back to get stuck in an endless loop.
      realistically you'd prolly want to have 3 layers of spikes + 1x layer of stealth rock + 1x layer of steel surge (from G-gmax steelsurge)
      additionally u will need the pokemon u will swap loop into to have a single resistance and quad resistance to both steel and rock
      this way u take at most 34.25% of hp every turn on entry rounded down
      technically speaking a pair of alolan digletts could fit this criteria assuming they have exactly 75 max hp and is being fought at around level 50. this combination will put the alolan digletts in a spot where they will always restore the exact amount of hp they lost on swap out from the hazards and will let you loop them endlessly

You could leave your ds as a kid, go through school, get a good job, get married, have a midlife crisis, have an affair, get caught, get divorced, be destitute, at the lowest point in your life, move back to your old town, rediscover your childhood home and memories, and find your old ds, and not only would the battery still be at least half full, but that chansey’s hp bar would be at least halfway empty!

    i think that a further optimization could be using a -spdef nature and having the smeargles snap out of confusion at the start of the turn and then when they eat the aguav berry they would gain confusion again

    While this might not help much, Light Screen and Reflect can be extended by the Light Clay held item, allowing for more set up before the turn the screen drops

      I think the problem with that is that Eject Pack is more efficient in terms of adding turns. Same goes for Rocky helmet. However! Not sure if the Aguav Berries being switched out for Light Clays would be able to add more turns of set up that beats extra Tail Slap hits.

      All the pokemon that aren't Smeargle need to have the eject pack during the end cycle so they keep pivoting out. This set-up would sacrifice an extra pivot for a single ending line, which is a downgrade @@kauri8981

    6:15 Pokémon being switched in at the end of the current turn reminds me of XD: Gale of Darkness - there was a Battle CD (a series of discs, each posing a particular battle challenge, most of which had to be found around Orre) that tasked the player with KOing six Shedinja within a single turn. Granted, this was Gen 3, so KOed Pokémon were replaced immediately, but it still seemed impossible to KO more than two Shedinja.
    The answer? Spikes and Sandstorm, of course - the sand would KO the current two Shedinja, and Spikes would KO the rest. Really made you think, those Battle CDs.
    Granted, there were some stupid, luck-based CDs like the Metronome battle and trying to KO a stally Cradily with a Zangoose, and some others, but on the whole they were a decent addition and were indeed thought-provoking, highlighting lesser-known aspects of Gen 3 battle mechanics.

    It might decrease the number of Hits, but Weak Armor gives twice as many messages (Def drop and Speed Up), so maybe that's worth looking into? You could maybe give Unaware to the attacker to negate that, but it's a lot of extra set-up to make work. Great video though!

      You might also be able to chain a single item being passed back and forth by a Magician/Pickpocket combo in this multi-hit structure, but I have no idea if that would work as I imagine.

      Not quite sure what counts as a "line," but my last idea is that Neutralizing Gas and Intimidate could work nicely for this, as long as Weezing is sent out after everything has already been poisoned by the spikes, then the message count should remain the same for the T-Spikes. Multiple activations of Intimidate during the eject pack death cycle phase could take up a hefty chunk of time more than just Anticipation or Pressure

    Have a Pokemon game directed by Hideo Kojima, where every turn is interrupted by a Codec conversation.

    you actually missed a few things, because some of the pokmon got knocked out by the spikes, meaning the didn't take stealth rock damage...

    Wouldnt it be better to use lower level Smeargle's so you can heal an exact amount of health with Berry Juice or Oran Berries so you can get an extra hit of Population Bomb per Smeargle while also getting them to faint

    I'm not sure how feasible it would be with setup, but you could run Focus Energy + Scope Lens on at least one Smeargle to add the crit message to all 9/10 of its hits with Population Bomb. Or just get really lucky

    These remind me of that one CZcamsr who finds ways to overcome softlocking (Pikaspre or something like that). Never realistic but cool to learn nonetheless.

    You can use light clay to extend the screens turns. Have mons hold light clay, set up screens, get hit with knockoff, get agav berries tricked on to them, then have the mon that lost its berry use recycle to get its berry back.

    It would be interesting to see if the different animation times would affect the optimal moves used in the actual game, or if certain strategies could actually cause the game to lag and make the turn even longer.

    for the eject pack looping, make it so that each mon you loop is at 57-62%. That way, after 2 rounds of hazard damage, it is at 7%-12% hp, letting it take additional hp from poison damage and sandstorm before fainting ,adding more lines

    A couple suggestions:
    You could set up dire hits on the smeargles to get more "critical hit" messages.
    You could use a light clay to mismatch the timings of the field effects, making them end on the same turn, even when casted on different turns.
    You could make use of golisopod's ability to make him switch out, allowing him to hold another item that might have more messages (not sure if that item exists tho).

    2:34 - so the Shared Power customer game mode was removed in triples/doubles, but why did you go for Doubles instead of Triples - if Triples are still an allowed format? Is it just Custom Triple battles aren't allowed?

    my first thought for even more turns would be light clay reflect and light screen, that way they deactivate the same turn as 5 turn effects. not sure if this would be possible with the needed setup though

    I’m sure in Gen I there’s some combination of the TMTRAINER effect and glitch Pokémon with long cries that could take longer

    A pokemon with some small amount of HP could connect all 10 population bomb through rocky helmet, but they would probably get ohkod due to their abysmal defence and remaining HP.
